Minister Geoffrey Uche Nnaji Resigns Over Certificate Forgery Allegations

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery reported by Premium Times Nigeria.

According to the investigative report, documents obtained by Premium Times revealed inconsistencies in Nnaji’s academic records and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) was reported to have formally disowned the degree certificate allegedly presented by the minister, stating it was never issued by the institution.

Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced via his official X (Twitter) handle that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accepted Nnaji’s resignation.

Onanuga stated that the President “appreciates Mr. Nnaji’s service to the nation” and that a replacement for the Innovation and Science Minister would be announced in due course.

The resignation comes amid mounting public scrutiny following Premium Times’ exposé detailing discrepancies in Nnaji’s claimed qualifications.

As of press time, neither Nnaji nor his legal representatives have publicly responded to the forgery allegations.

Atiku Abubakar Endorses Sowore’s Campaign for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Abuja, Nigeria — October 9, 2025

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly endorsed the campaign led by activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku described Kanu’s prolonged detention as “a stain on Nigeria’s belief in the rule of law” and a serious violation of human rights and due process. He criticized the federal government for ignoring court orders granting bail to Kanu and called for adherence to the principles of justice and the rule of law.

Atiku also expressed support for Sowore’s peaceful campaign, which includes public advocacy and planned demonstrations to urge the government to release Kanu or ensure he faces a fair and transparent trial.

Sowore’s campaign has gained attention from civil society groups, political figures, and human rights organizations across Nigeria, highlighting concerns about the legality and humaneness of Kanu’s detention, especially following his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in 2021, which Kenyan courts have ruled was unlawful.

As of now, the Nigerian government has not publicly responded to Atiku’s endorsement or to Sowore’s campaign.
