GOV ENO COMMISSIONS 6.475KM AMANYAM–MBIASO ROAD IN IKOT EKPENE

… reaffirms commitment to completing more people-oriented projects

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned the 6.475-kilometre Amanyam–Mbiaso road in Ikot Ekpene as part of activities marking the state’s 39th anniversary.

The project commissioning, held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Amanyam, Ikot Ekpene, was the third of 39 projects lined up for commissioning across the State.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Eno said his administration’s priority was to improve the quality of life of the people rather than engage in unnecessary politicking at the expense of development.

“Whatever developmental efforts that we are putting in place are tailored towards the overall benefit and improved living conditions of our people. We don’t play politics with the welfare of our citizenry," he said.

The Governor commended the people of Ikot Ekpene for their unwavering support for his administration, assuring them that unfinished projects inherited from previous administrations would be reviewed and completed for the benefit of the people.

Governor Eno also assured the people of Ikot Ekpene of more development projects, including the Ikot Ekpene International Market, Compassionate Homes, Primary Health Centres and additional road projects.

He commended the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area for his strides in executing people-oriented projects, noting that similar developmental efforts by local government chairmen across the State were encouraging and a credit to local government autonomy.

Presenting an overview of the road project, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, said the 6.475-kilometre single-carriageway road, with an eight-metre width, was constructed with 12.95 kilometres of side drains.

According to him, the road traverses Ifuho, Ibong, Ikot Udoe and Mbiaso communities.
Prof. Ibanga described the project as a complete developmental ecosystem that had opened up Amanyam and adjoining communities, adding that the road was diligently supervised to ensure standard, quality and durability.

He thanked the Governor for approving the variation in the project cost, which he said facilitated its timely completion.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, commended Governor Eno for his developmental strides in the area, particularly the ongoing International Market, hospital project and access roads, including the Amanyam–Mbiaso road.

“You have done so much in, and for Ikot Ekpene. Currently, you have four projects to commission in Ikot Ekpene. I want to tell you that we are very happy with you,” Nkom said.

He added: “Today, Amanyam and the entire Ikot Ekpene people have declared total support for you. You promised and you have delivered. We assure you of our full support now and in the 2027 general elections.”

In separate goodwill messages, the political leader of Ikot Ekpene, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, and the Paramount Ruler of the area, HRM Okon Udo Ukut, commended Governor Eno for what they described as his commitment to the development of the people.

They noted that the poor condition of the road had left residents facing hardship for decades, with economic activities in the area severely affected.

They applauded the Governor for completing the road and other economically viable projects, saying the developments have restored hope to the people of Ikot Ekpene.

The community leaders also expressed their support for the Governor’s administration and his bid for a second term.

At the event were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Chief Delivery Advisor to the Governor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson and other government officials.

Gov. Umo Eno Appoints Five New Aides

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the appointment of five new aides to strengthen mobilisation among senior citizens, grassroots communities, women and youths across the state.

The appointments were contained in a press release issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, dated September 1, 2026.

Those appointed are:
Mrs. Mercy Eka – Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Senior Citizens Mobilisation.
Ms. Blessing Ossom – Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Mobilisation.
Obongama Jimmy – Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation.
Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Etuk – Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation.
Smart Samuel Usanga – Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation.

According to the statement, the appointments take effect from September 1, 2026.

The Secretary to the State Government congratulated the appointees on their appointments.

The appointments are expected to further strengthen the administration's engagement with key segments of the population, particularly youths, women, senior citizens and grassroots communities across Akwa Ibom State. �

Gov Eno Receives C54 News Management, Pledges Support for Media Network

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has received the management team of C54 News, owned by Future One Africa Network, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Uyo.

Governor Eno welcomed the decision of the media organisation to establish its operational headquarters in Akwa Ibom State, describing the development as a positive step towards strengthening the media industry and expanding opportunities within the state's growing communication ecosystem.

The Governor assured the management team of the state government's support and urged the organisation to uphold the core principles of objectivity, balance and credibility in the discharge of its professional responsibilities.

He also charged the media network to use its platform to positively project Nigeria and Africa, while promoting stories that reflect the continent's development, opportunities and aspirations.
Governor Eno noted that the media occupies a strategic position in shaping public opinion and influencing societal development, stressing that such responsibility must be exercised with fairness, professionalism and a strong commitment to public trust.

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to creating an enabling environment for businesses and institutions willing to contribute to the development and growth of Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno has been honoured with the Chieftaincy title of “Akwa Obong Emem Ikot Ekpene” by the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Okuku Okon Udo Ukut.

The honour was conferred during the coronation ceremony of the Paramount Ruler, held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.

*AVIATION BUSINESS REPORT*

*AS DEMAND GROWS, PASSENGERS TASK IBOM AIR ON AFFORDABLE FARES, BETTER ACCESS AND BAGGAGE HANDLING*

UYO — Ibom Air continues to receive commendation for its service quality and reliability, but some passengers have allegedly raised concerns over high fares, limited access, and baggage delays, calling for urgent steps to address the issues.

In correspondence made available to _Ibom Aviation News_, passengers acknowledged the airline’s strengths while also detailing challenges they said they experienced. According to Mr. Belief Udoh, an Akwa Ibom indigene, Ibom Air has “in many respects, given passengers a great flying experience.” “As an Akwa Ibom person, I genuinely appreciate that,” he said, as explained in his letter to the airline.

According to Mr. Udoh, he allegedly paid ₦227,000 for a Uyo-Lagos ticket after he was unable to secure a seat for three days following his training in Lagos. He stated that the delay forced him to incur additional hotel and feeding expenses. Mr. Daniel Kerry Udofia, in a separate letter, also alleged that Uyo-Lagos fares could rise from ₦230,000 to ₦334,000 within 24 hours, while a Calabar-Lagos ticket was reportedly sold for ₦142,000 on the same day. As explained by Mr. Udofia, for a family of two or three traveling at ₦334,000 each, the cost becomes unbearable for many households.

Both passengers alleged that the current situation leaves travelers stranded for days and pushes some to consider road travel to Calabar or Port Harcourt to access other flights. According to Mr. Udofia, “If Ibom Air is always fully booked, then this explains why Akwa Ibom state needs to open up the airport to other operators.” The passengers expressed concern that the situation could worsen during the Christmas period when demand is expected to rise.

Mr. Udoh also alleged that he was informed he would have to board without his luggage, with delivery promised 24 hours later. He further stated, according to reports from other passengers, that some travelers the previous day allegedly waited about 24 hours before receiving their bags. “Why should a passenger arrive at the destination before his luggage?” he asked in his letter.

While these are allegations made by passengers and have not been independently verified by _Ibom Aviation News_, an International Air Transport Association (IATA) accredited Travel agent based in Uyo, Miss Charity Udosen, suggests increasing flight frequency on high demand routes especially ahead of peak travel periods. She also recommends providing fare transparency through advance calendars to help passengers plan, and considering limited access for other credible domestic airlines at Victor Attah International Airport to increase seat supply. Miss Udosen further advised strengthening baggage handling procedures with clear timelines for delayed luggage, and enhancing passenger communication on operations, pricing, and service updates.

Despite the allegations, passengers emphasized that the concerns should not diminish the value Ibom Air has brought to the state. According to Mr. Udoh, the feedback is given “precisely because we want Ibom Air to become better.” As explained by Mr. Udofia, “I am a big fan and supporter of IBOMAIR till tomorrow,” but noted that addressing the issues would better serve Akwa Ibom people. Ibom Air has been credited with improving connectivity, creating jobs, and giving residents a reliable air travel option within Nigeria.

Governor Eno Receives Recognition for Investments in Akwa Ibom Health Sector

…Honoured by BOHNAPFHI, NANNM

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has received recognition from the Body of Heads of Nursing Services Department and Principals of Schools in Federal Health Institutions (BOHNAPFHI) and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) for his administration’s investments in the state’s health sector.

The Governor, who disclosed this in a statement, appreciated both organisations for the honours, describing them as recognition of the progress being made in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

Eno said his administration’s efforts in the health sector include the development of the Ibom Medical City, construction of Model Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as sustained investment in the welfare and capacity of health workers.

He said the recognitions would further encourage his administration to deepen its commitment to improving healthcare services for residents of the state.

The Governor dedicated the awards to the people of Akwa Ibom State and all stakeholders contributing to the development of the health sector.

He assured that his administration would continue to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure that residents have access to improved and quality medical services across the state.

UNIUYO Bans Sign-Out Activities, Warns Final-Year Students of Severe Sanctions

The management of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has banned all forms of sign-out activities and related gatherings by final-year students across its campuses.

The directive was contained in an internal memorandum dated August 26, 2026, and signed by the University Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, on behalf of the institution.

According to the memorandum, the Vice-Chancellor’s attention was drawn to what the university described as “unwholesome activities” carried out by students at the end of their final examinations.

The university said such activities contravene the provisions of the Matriculation Pledge taken by students during their matriculation.

Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor directed that all forms of sign-out activities are strictly prohibited within the university campuses.

The management also warned students against organising, participating in or facilitating sign-out activities or related gatherings on the campuses.
It further stated that any student or group of students found violating the directive would be severely disciplined.
The university urged all students to comply fully with the directive and help ensure that the university environment remains orderly and conducive to academic activities.

The latest directive comes amid growing restrictions by tertiary institutions on sign-out celebrations, with universities citing concerns over orderliness, safety and activities considered inappropriate on campuses. �

*NUJ CHARGES AKWA IBOM AVIATION CORRESPONDENTS ON PROFESSIONALISM, FACT-CHECKING*

*UYO* – The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has urged members of the newly inaugurated Aviation Correspondents of Akwa Ibom State, ACAKS, to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy and ethics in reporting the aviation sector.

John gave the charge on Thursday during the inauguration of ACAKS at the Israel Umoh Conference Hall of the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo.

Represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Margaret Moore, the NUJ Chairman described aviation as a critical and sensitive sector that demands diligence and responsible reportage.

He cautioned members against rushing to publish unverified information, stressing that journalists must cross-check facts and ensure accuracy at all times.

“Aviation is too sensitive for errors. Report only what you have verified. Your work must also be in harmony and contribute meaningfully to the development of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

John commended the Chairman of ACAKS, Comrade Charles Bassey Silas, for establishing the corps following the mandate given by the State Council at its monthly congress to create specialised beats. He assured ACAKS of the Council’s support and urged the corps to keep the NUJ informed of its major activities.

In his remarks, the Chairman of ACAKS, Comrade Charles Bassey Silas, thanked the NUJ leadership for approving the inauguration and for supporting the creation of specialised beats.

Bassey lauded Nsibiet John for what he described as “impactful leadership” within his first year in office, noting that the successes recorded by the NUJ in the state could not be discussed without acknowledging his contributions.

He explained that ACAKS was formed to address the gap in professional coverage of key sectors, with aviation being a priority.

“Aviation is critical. The airport is the first point of entry into our state. As journalists, we are the mirror through which society sees itself. The era where visitors tell our aviation story must give way to us telling our own story,” Bassey said.

He disclosed that ACAKS has already secured partnerships with key aviation unions. Representatives of the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ANAP, and the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE were present at the inauguration as a demonstration of that commitment.

Bassey noted that the Akwa Ibom Government, under Governor Umo Eno, is driving rapid development at the airport in line with a tourism-focused agenda. He said ACAKS will ensure professional reportage of projects including the smart airport, the MRO facility, and Ibom Air’s fleet expansion.

He also announced two major initiatives: the launch of *Ibom Aviation Journal* in September as part of the state’s 39th anniversary, and an advanced-stage discussion with NTA Uyo for a 30-minute television programme dedicated to aviation.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of ATSSAN and Auditor-General of TUC Akwa Ibom, Comrade Ubong Samuel, described ACAKS as a welcome development that will ease the burden of public communication for aviation unions.

He, however, raised concern over what he called a deficit in personnel training at the airport, warning that facilities could deteriorate without competent staff to operate them. He urged ACAKS to amplify the call for training and capacity building, and assured the corps of a robust partnership.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, Comrade Ukeme Isaac, said the inauguration of ACAKS was long overdue. He noted that the corps will help bridge the information gap between airport management and the public.

Isaac urged ACAKS to use professional journalism to sensitise Akwa Ibom people on the vast opportunities in the state’s aviation ecosystem, stressing that collaboration between stakeholders and the media will boost public understanding and attract more investment to the sector.
