PDP Crisis Deepens as Factions Emerge — Anyanwu Group Suspends Acting Chairman Damagum, Others
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into deeper turmoil as fresh factions have emerged within its leadership structure.
A faction of the party, reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the suspension of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, alongside five other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The group, led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was recently suspended by the main PDP NWC, declared that the decision was taken to “restore order and discipline within the party,” accusing Damagum and others of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
This latest development comes just days after a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the PDP’s planned national convention, a ruling that has further intensified internal wrangling within the party’s hierarchy.
Observers say the crisis has now escalated into a battle for control between camps loyal to Wike and those aligned with other key stakeholders within the PDP, threatening the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
