After years of speculation and delays, Tesla has officially launched its first Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. A small fleet of self-driving vehicles is now live, marking a bold step into the future of urban mobility.
At the moment, rides are limited to a select group of invited users, including social media influencers. Each trip is priced at a flat rate of $4.20, a cheeky nod to Musk’s infamous sense of humor.
How Tesla Robotaxi Works
1. Download the Robotaxi app
2. Sign in with your Tesla Account (or create one if you don’t have it)
3. Enter your destination within the designated service area
4. Confirm the ride, you’ll see fare estimate and arrival time
5. Once the car arrives, match the license plate in the app
6. Hop in, buckle up, and tap 'Start' in the app to begin your ride
While these vehicles are designed to operate completely without a driver, Tesla is currently deploying “safety monitors” in the front passenger seat during early trials, just in case.
Now this is direct competition with the likes of Uber, Lyft, Waymo, and every other ride-hailing or self-driving initiative out there. And trust me, it’s only a matter of months before Robotaxi becomes the default choice in cities where it's available.
The autonomous future is not coming. It's here.
