BREAKING NEWS: BISHOP JOLLY OYEKPEN PASSED ON

With great sadness but glory to God Almighty, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion announces the death of The Rt Rev. Jolly Oyekpen, Bishop of Akoko Edo Diocese.

He passed away peacefully early this morning, August 29th 2022 at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State after he complained of brief illness. He was born 7th September, 1966.

We offer sympathies and prayers for his family, to the priests, friends and the faithful whose lives he touched throughout his years of priestly and episcopal ministry.

His approachable and youthful nature will be how Bishop Oyekpen will be remembered as he was the Bishop coordinator to the Anglican Youth Fellowship of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion until 2021. He was elected bishop in 2007 to pioneer the Diocese of Akoko-Edo.

Please, pray for the wife, family, friends and the Diocese he left behind.

FG kicks as ASUU extends six-month-old strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its six-month-old strike.

The decision was taken after a series of heated discussions at the National Executive Council meeting held at the union’s headquarters at the University of Abuja on Monday morning.

Speaking on the extension, the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, told newsmen that the government had taken all possible steps to end the strike.

He said, “As regards the next steps, the government has already inaugurated a committee to harmonize the IPPIS, UTAS, and UP3. This will ensure that the government will pay with only one payment platform that will harmonize all the technical peculiarities.

“If you bring some demands and almost 80% have been attended to, there is no need to drag the strike anymore.

“It is unreasonable for the strike to be lingering seeing as the government has worked towards fulfilling most of the demands.”

ASUU had declared the commencement of a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the University of Lagos.

Again, Meeting Between ASUU, FG Ends In Deadlock

The truce meeting between the Federal Government and executive members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has ended in deadlock in today's meeting.

Stakeholders at the meeting which involved the professor Nimi Briggs led committee and ASUU officials failed to reach any meaningful resolution after the meeting which lasted several hours at the University of Abuja campus.

A source privy to the meeting noted that the Nimi Briggs committee failed to come with any commitment to resolve the strike rather was appealing to the union to suspend the strike without any possible solution.

There were initial signs that all the parties involved in the stalemate that has lasted for over six months were ready to come to a compromise, since the President had mandated the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to intervene within two weeks.

It was however gathered that some of the demands which ASUU insists must be met may be tabled for extensive deliberations at today's Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting

OSUN STATE ELECTION: The Power of the Masses Structure.

Out of the 9 members of house of representatives, PDP has 2, the rest are APC.

Out of the 3 Senators, PDP has 1,

Out of 26 members of the Osun State Assembly, PDP has only 2 and the rest are APC members.

The rest,

The Governor

Deputy Governor

Speaker

Deputy speaker

All the Commissioners

DGs

SSA

SSG

Tinubu factor

APC National Secretary

Vote buying

Power of Incumbent etc

Yet with all these so-called structures very active in state and national politics they couldn't make sure APC retain the state?

Don't be deceived, the structure is the masses. Once they decided on who they want, no political structure can change it.

The MASSES structure is the greatest Structure, not the political structure.
