My name is Solomon Ayuba Dagami, some fondly call me Abuga . I hold a masters degree in public Administration. I have only recently retired my appointment as the Education secretary of Local Education Authority Bwari, to pursue a higher calling. I am also the president of all education secretaries in Nigeria. By the grace of God, I am privileged to be The Magayakin Bwari and The Salenken Sa-Gabgyi 1 kaduna . Again , by the grace of God I am contesting for the House of Representatives in the National Assembly to represent the people of Bwari and Abuja municipal federal Constituency.
I have a very positive outlook to life and open mind to all the people I meet. I try in my own way to be humble and to have a very special place for the God I serve. Family is my life as I try to make them a priority.
The conviction to run for this office has its roots in my long-time desire to give our people a voice with a federal might. Our representatives have so far done their best, but a lot more needs to be done.
If elected, I intend to focus on these six (6) key areas of development:
1.Democratic Education
Education is taking the first place in my focus, first been that I have had the opportunity of being an actor in the education sector in various capacities for many years.
Subsequent therefore on the foregoing, my stance is that we need to take a critical look at the dynamics in education with a view to finding lasting solutions to our educational challenges. In that direction, I will look into sponsoring of a bill for the return of Teachers colleges nationwide to enhance qualitative basic education. This will reduce employment of unqualified teachers including those who take up teaching jobs for lack of another.
Secondly, there is a need to establish a law that will see to the need for the federal government to take over basic education from Local Government Authorities.
Experience has shown that the local authorities are encumbered with myriads of development challenges compelling them to leave education to the background.
Therefore, if the federal Government takes over, it will give room for constant supervision of teachers, provision of facilities, mobility for inspectors and provision of all necessary working materials.
Lastly, the unfortunate and abusive nature of appointment of education secretaries in some states. My goal is to call for a bill to seek for appointments of education secretaries base on rank and hierarchy rather than appointments hinged on political affiliations. This trend has the capacity to demoralize officers who are above a secretary in rank and hierarchy.
2.Youth engagement
Records show that the number of unemployed indigenous youths in Bwari and Amac has tripled in the last decade with polytechnics and universities churning out graduates in their hundreds. It is however, disheartening to admit that there is no commensurate employment for them. Most of these graduates end up at their area councils taking up teaching jobs they did not sign up for. Based on my experience, I will aim to seek for a bill to seek for an affirmative action of ensuring employment of indigenous applicants on percentage into federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs)
My goal Will also be targeted at skills and entrepreneurial acquisition for the youths and women in our urban and rural areas. This may have a way of shifting the minds of idle youths away from drugs and restiveness.
3.Enhanced Agricultural Activities
It is an interesting fact to note that Bwari and AMAC may have the best climate condition in the FCT, but that leverage has not been harnessed because of the widening gap of agricultural inputs and implements for the mostly agricultural populace in the FCT. The procurement and distribution of fertilizer needs to be further simplified for the bottom farmer. It is heart breaking that the subsistence farmer cannot readily and easily afford fertilizers or tractors in the FCT. These are issues that will take my attention my desire is to seek for professional advice on the way forward to ensure food security.
4.Functional Primary Health Care
Unknown to many , tackling the challenges of primary health care is taking care of major health challenges in every society. Most disease outbreaks happen in local communities where the primary health care system is in shambles thereby giving way to possible outbreak of diseases. My sincere goal is to sponsor a bill that will seek to upgrade all primary health care centers and establishment of more within the FCT. Indigenous people are forced to go to the cities where there are federal medical centers and hospitals with overstretched patients on admission.
5.Proactive Solidarity
Together we have a socially responsive duty as a people to rise above any challenges in our constituency. What better way to do that than In our collective resolve to support each other in comradeship. We will synergize with all legal youth groups, coalitions, women societies and the constituent. We will maintain our identity as a strong political campaign organization even after elections to give our support a sense of belonging.
6.Resettlement/Integration Issues
The lingering issue of resettlement and or integration has continued to be a clog In the wheel of progress of successive administration. Our goal is to instigate a revisit towards lasting solutions.
Finally, these are my goals and desires to contest. I will explore the index of feedback to the maximum for effective representation. Feedback will be my watch word.
