THE AVOIDABLE DEATH OF MR. ORANEZI
It's a heart-wrenching story that still feels like a nightmare. As a parent, I'm deeply connected to the Oranezi family since our kids attend the same school and we live in the same estate. I've often given their kids a ride home from school alongside mine. The Oranezi family is lovely, with three beautiful kids - two boys and a charming girl in primary school.
Just minutes after they left our apartment, my wife received an emergency call from Mrs. Oranezi. I rushed to their home and found Mr. Oranezi on the floor, gasping for breath. I quickly drove him to a nearby federal government hospital. The medical team sprang into action, providing oxygen and other necessities. His blood pressure was alarmingly high - above the danger level.
Despite the efforts, I had to leave for home late that night. But the news at 1 am was devastating - Mr. Oranezi had passed away. I felt a chill run down my spine, and tears streamed down my face. The quote echoed in my mind: "Life is but a shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more." High blood pressure, the silent killer, had taken him away. We later found out he had been ignoring his high BP readings and not using his prescribed medications.
He had returned home that night, preparing to eat dinner before embarking on a trip to attend a funeral ceremony, when he suddenly collapsed from a heart attack that eventually took his life. I'm still shaken, especially when I see his children. It's a painful reminder of the importance of regular check-ups, especially for those above 40. Please, don't neglect your blood pressure readings, and take your medications seriously. Eat healthily, manage stress, and prioritize your well-being. It's a matter of life and death. Dear Mr. Oranezi, may your gentle soul rest in peace.
May the Lord keep the children and the wife and comfort them as they mourn the dearly beloved.
