Man Shares New Photos Of Abandoned Baby He Rescued In Enugu

A Law graduate, Benkingsley Nwashara, has taken to his Twitter handle to share photos of a two-year-old girl he rescued after she was abandoned by her mentally-ill mother in Agabani town, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.

He shared photos he took of the child when he rescued her, as well as a recent photo of the two of them on Sunday.

Nwashara in an interview with Saturday PUNCH had said that he saw the child sitting helplessly on the street on June 15, while returning from a late-night party with some friends, and that when he asked about the child, he was told that she belonged to a mentally-ill woman who lived in the area and had been there for about days without any help.

Sharing the latest update about the child's welfare, he captioned the pictures, "How it was vs How it's going. You can't tell me that God is not faithful."

In another post, he shared some pictures of the child on Monday and said, “She went from being an abandoned child diagnosed with kwashiorkor to being plump and with a home and family. God is the greatest.”

AKSG RELEASES N2.254 BILLION FOR PAYMENT OF GRATUITY

Akwa Ibom State Government has released the sum of N2.254 Billion Naira for payment of gratuity to retired government workers.

A statement by the Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien indicates that out of the released sum, N1.254 billion is for the payment of gratuities of state government pensioners, while N1Billion Naira is for retired primary school teachers and National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

This gesture, he said, is in keeping with the promise of Governor of Udom Emmanuel to ensuring that the wellbeing of the citizency is given the attention it deserves.

According to Pastor Andrew-Essien, beneficiaries of the ongoing gratuity payment are those who retired from active service and were scheduled for payment in May and June, 2016.

The Accountant General commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for always putting the welfare of workers at the front bunner, even in the face of the current economic crisis ravaging the entire world.

He therefore advised the concerned pensioners to crosscheck their names at the Treasury Headquarters, Uyo.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has reinstated the suspended Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo.

The House had on January 8, 2022, suspended Ekpo over alleged gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds and directed the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mercy Bassey to takeover in acting capacity.

At Plenary on Monday, the House moved that the suspension of Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo be lifted.

The House urged the Chairman to take all reasonable steps to resolve all pending issues relating to the assets of the Local government area.

The House further advised Ekpo to separate his personal dealings and businesses from the day to day administration of the Council.
