It was a different Friday morning in November 2007 at Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos. The students were excited they will be learning beyond the classroom as they matched into a white school bus, ready to take them on a journey to the Nigeria National Theatre in Lagos, a place where Art, Culture and Tourism meet purpose.

This visit stirred meaningful conversations between the Theatre Curator and the students who left the gigantic structure with a renewed passion for Art and the exploration of their innate gifts and talents. Many also left pondering on the Curator’s worry on how the Theatre was gradually becoming a shadow of itself— and his dream for a renovation and possible overall restructuring to facilitate a proper maximization of the Theatre’s potential for real-time impact in the lives of both emerging and established Creatives.

17 years later, November 2024, only time can tell what the students have been up to, over the past one decade and what the future holds for them in their country, Nigeria.
Each child on that journey of yesterday now faces different paths as adults of today. With one of them now a journalist and the author of this piece.

A fortnight before the election day, some young Nakurians cried foul of possible disenfranchisement. The “olive silk” which signified their pass had not been delivered as promised by NAKU the electoral body that had encouraged this category to register and make their vote count. Unfortunately, their complaints were ignored as trivial and minimal in the grand scheme of things and the election went on as scheduled. On that very day, officials from House Bat who were in charge of this year's election, arrived late at the venues to the annoyance of Nakurianswho had flown, crawled, swam and marched to their voting boots in large numbers. Nonetheless, under the rain and scorching sunshine they stood tall on their heels, closeted shells, ruffled feathers and dry beaks, patiently to vote their choice for the successor to the Nakurian throne, which was paramount in averting yet another Naka’s curse.

As good as AI is, it lies. Yes it lies. This is called (AI Hallucination). AI Hallucination is when an AI tool gives a closely wrong answer instead of not answering you at all.

Deep Fake is also a rising issue around AI. Deep fake is the manipulation of a photo, video, or audio clip using AI to portray events that never happened. This could be used to create a massive damage in the society if we are not careful. Imagine people using deep fake to create a video of a speech given by a popular Legend, whereby such speech didn’t exist in reality.

Remember, AI can’t work alone without humans. We feed data into AI and we are also the users of the end result. AI needs us to survive and we need AI to be more creative, innovative and become an agent of the change we desire in the future.

I want to share some business and life lessons I garnered from the 4-episode movie series Self Made(available on Netflix). I highly recommend watching this series.

The movie series Self Made is based on the true story of the rise of Madam C.J. Walker (1867-1919), portrayed by the legendary actress Octavia Spencer. Madam C.J. Walker was an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. She is recorded as the first female self-made millionaire in the Guinness Book of World Records. She founded the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, a hair care and cosmetics company established to serve African American women.

Feeling psychologically intimidated?
What’s the way out?

I read an article, and I like the approach and the writer’s vulnerability because I think we tend to shy away from these things.

Some time ago, I remembered assessing myself, and I came face to face with a side of me I didn’t know existed or somehow ignored.

I remember how scrutinizing I was. I wanted to deal with that aspect and wasn’t pleased that I had to admit I had a flaw and one that had a thing to do with jealousy.

Birthdays and year-end avail us with the opportunity to reflect on our year, and more than ever before, I was happier last year-end, and this was because, as opposed to previous years, I was grateful.

Why were the other years different?
