The Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, Bamidele Makinde, on Tuesday, cleared the air over the reopening of the Idiroko border in Ogun State.

Makinde said the border had been reopened since last year, contrary to a viral video which showed some residents of Idiroko jubilating over the border reopening.

Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari had in August 2019, shut all land borders as part of efforts to curtail smuggling and boost local production of rice.

In 2020, Buhari ordered the reopening of borders in Seme in Lagos, Illela in Sokoto, Maigatari in Jigawa, and Mfum in Cross River.

Re: Anxiety In Military Over New Service Chiefs ….DIG Kayode Egbetokun To Replace Alkali Baba

Permutation is seriously going on, on who succeeds service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police in the Tinubu Presidency.

It is the tradition of every new administration to change the service chiefs especially those he thinks will be absolutely loyal to his administration.

However so many Newspapers and pundits are already throwing names here and there and the one that caught my attention is the name for the Inspector General of Police in the person of Kayode Egbetokun, a deputy inspector General of Police, DIG, which one of the paper said is likely to succeed Alkali Baba who retired in February 2023, but was allowed to continue by Buhari administration.

Egbetokun, a former chief security officer to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was commissioner of police in Kwara State; AIG zone 7, Abuja before his current position as DIG investigation bureau, Lagos.

DIG Egbetokun has served in several commands and held several sensitive positions within the Force including postings as Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos, 2005 to 2007, Squadron Commander 5 PMF Benin, Benin City, OC Anti Fraud FCT Command, CSP “A” Lagos State Command, Area Commander Oshogbo, Osun State, Area Commander Gusau Zamfara State, Commandant Police Traning School, Ikeja, Lagos, Deputy Commandant, Police College, Ikeja, CP Servicom, FHQ Abuja, CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), CP Kwara State Command.

He was until his present promotion and posting, CP (Admin) Medical, Falomo Lagos. He has also attended several courses locally and internationally.

There are many conditions among others attached to who become Inspector of General of Police even though DIG Egbetokun is a fine Police officer who has distinguish himself in the service but is lacking in areas like attending NIPSS or Defense College.

DIG Egbetokun will also be bowing out of service in the next nine months which I feel bringing someone that have little time in the force will affect his policy for the force.

He might not have time to stabilize the Police Force as 9 month is too short to make any effect in the public office like that of Police Force.

DIG Kayode Egbetokun has contributed his quota to the development of Police force in Nigeria, a sterling officer with track records in the force but there is a popular saying that health is wealth and rumor has it that that Egbetokun is having some health challenges though we wish him well as only God that owns health but an office like IGP need somebody that is fit for the job.
