LAGOS POLICE FOIL "OBI OF LAGOS" UNVEILING CEREMONY, ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a self-acclaimed traditional ruler, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who paraded himself as the "Obi of Lagos," along with three accomplices. The arrests were made on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

According to the police, Azubike, 65, from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Imo State, was arrested alongside Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41. The suspects are currently in custody at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

The police had received intelligence that the group planned to unveil a prototype of a purported ₦1.5 billion "Palace of Obi of Lagos State" on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. To prevent the ceremony from holding, the police sealed off the venue and deployed personnel to maintain law and order.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned the public to be vigilant against impostors who exploit revered cultural and traditional institutions for selfish gains. He emphasized that such actions are unlawful and capable of breaching public peace.

The suspects are currently under investigation, and the outcome will be made public. They will be charged to court accordingly.

The announcement was made on Monday in a statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.
