PASTOR ENO URGES SUPPORTERS TO REMEMBER THE POOR AS HE TURNS 59

Akwa Ibom State Governor-Elect, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged friends, supporters and well-wishers to remember the poor and the needy rather than engage in elaborate events to mark his 59th Birthday, which comes up tomorrow, April 24th, 2023.

In a statement released by the Media Unit of the Governor-Elect and signed by Anthony Udoh, the Governor-Elect was effusive in thanking God for His manifest blessings, grace and mercy, gift of good health and a sound mind.

According to him, “I give God the glory for His grace and mercy upon my life and that of my dear family and indeed His love for our people and our dear State.

"As I turn 59 tomorrow (Monday, April 24th), I wish to thank my friends, teeming supporters and well-wishers who have reached out to me, with various plans to mark the day. As grateful and deeply appreciative as I am for these elaborate plans, I would, however, appeal to them to channel the resources they would have used to celebrate me, to help the poor and the needy.

"They may wish to visit orphanages, and other NGOs geared towards the downtrodden and encourage them to be hopeful and bring some happy cheers to their lives.

"God lifted me up from this same group, and having shared and felt their pain, anxieties and feeling of uncertainties, I will use my time in office, to fight for this group, who often are forgotten alongside other segments of our society.

"I thank you for your kind wishes, prayers, and unwavering support. God bless you, as we ARISE together and connect the dots of our continuous growth and development," he said.

WE CELEBRATE OUR AFRICAN ON THE PLATFORM.....REVERED RESUME

Meet Nnamdi Ezeigbo the Owner of Tecno, Infinix and Slot Nigeria.

Nnamdi Ezeigbo was born on 4 August 1966 in Sapele, Delta State, into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ezeigbo. The entrepreneur, who is currently 56 years old, is of the Igbo Nation, and he hails from Nsukwe in Ubakala, Umuahia in Abia State.

His mother was a petty trader who sold bread, and Nnamdi was always around after school to help her out in hawking bread, while his father’s occupation is unknown. He is the first out of the nine children of his parents. Coming from a humble background, he grew alongside his other siblings under the care of their parents.

The 56-year-old entrepreneur has modified his brands to suit the people’s choice, making it one of the fast-selling and affordable brands in the country. Currently, his brand has over 75 outlets all over Nigeria and has served as a means of curbing unemployment so far. The brand has been known to be among the best in supplying electronic gadgets and gadget accessories such as phones, laptops, iPads, laptops, and other electronic devices.

Nnamdi Ezigbo spent most of his early years in Delta State. He obtained his primary education at Pamol Primary School, Sapele, Delta State. Having a passion for education, he further obtained his secondary education at Ogini Grammar School in Abraka, Delta State, receiving his senior school certificate in 1984.

In 1988, he enrolled at Yaba College of Technology, specializing in Engineering, having a good knowledge of sciences, especially physics and mathematics. He graduated with a Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. In 1996, he proceeded for his National Youth Service Corps, having his place of primary assignment to be the Nigerian Brewery under the Guinness Nigeria PLC.

Being a person who aspires for the best, he enrolled at Lagos State University in 1996 to study Computer and Electronics Engineering. In 2001, he graduated with second-class upper honors. He furthered to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology at Ogbomosho, Oyo State, where he bagged his master’s degree in information and management technology. The entrepreneur moved on to Lagos Business School, where he obtained an MBA. Having greatness in mind and determination, he proceeded to Havard Business school, where he also graduated.

On graduating from the university, Nnamdi Ezeigbo could not secure a job, so he registered as an apprentice to learn how to repair computers. The deal lasted for six months as he could not continue with his boss as he was after money rather than having a good relationship with customers. He moved down to Lagos to perch with a friend, where he had lots of customers. The entrepreneur also diversified into phone accessories when it was introduced into Nigeria.

Being someone who counts on having good relationships with customers, he was helped by one of his customers in acquiring a bigger shop. The customer helped him with printers which he sold to acquire a bigger shop to stand on his own. Nnamdi, who is hardworking, didn’t take time to raise funds to pay the shop’s rent, which was N180,000, and continued with his normal business.

Nnamdi Ezeigbo started expanding his business and customer base and bought over the shop he rented previously for 100 million and launched his business Slot. The business enterprise, which was launched, sold phones and phone accessories, laptops, and other gadgets. Though he was making it big then, he still moved ahead to develop himself properly.

Today, Slot is seen in states like Lagos, Abuja, Rivers State, Enugu, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, Kwara, Cross River, Osun, Delta, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Kano, Ogun, Anambra, with over 40 branches. Today, the slot company doesn’t sell only the Infinix and Tecno products; they also sell other brands such as Vivo, Itel, Redmi, Oppo, and many more.

The entrepreneur is no doubt someone that aspires for the best as he set out to produce his phone brand in the 2000s. Seeing that the masses possessed more phones to use various networks, he set out to produce a dual sim phone. The entrepreneur met with Nokia phones to carry out his business idea but was turned down because of their gain in people buying different phones. Though it was discouraging, he still pushed on till he met someone who had worked in the Bird phone company during one of his business trips to China. The business tycoon didn’t hesitate to bring the technology personel down to Nigeria to register and produce a dual sim phone named Tecno.

The first production, the Tecno T101, wasn’t accepted in the market by Nigerians because it had issues with the sim working together on the same phone. This made him develop the second version of Tecno T201. This second version was a bit accepted by the market but delayed him in profits because he gave them out on credit. As of 2007, the demand for the Tecno product rose, which made him produce more phones and equally advanced. Today, the Tecno phone has many models, and the purchase of the product is equally on its rise as almost everyone in Nigeria has one way or the other used the product.

The emergence of Tecno in the market did not take time before it became a household name and users all over the country. This also gave rise to the introduction of the Infinix phone to meet the demands of the higher, middle, and lower classes in Nigeria.

Recently, Infinix and Tecno have been among the most sought-after mobile devices in the market today. These mobile devices have been modified to suit the demands of every Nigerian this day, and his outlet, SLOT, has been a major dealer across the country.

Nnamdi met his wife, Nkechi Ezeigbo, for the first time at an Ikeja bus stop, Lagos State, before they took things to the next level after a few encounters. The wife of the entrepreneur is from the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State. She also started the business with her husband and is currently a shareholder in the company. The duo tied the knot in 1998 and has welcomed four children together since then. Nnamdi and Nkechi Ezeigbo are blessed with three sons and a daughter.

THE VICTORY SPEECH BY PASTOR UMO ENO, GOVERNOR-ELECT, AKWA IBOM STATE, MARCH 19TH, 2023-UYO

1. Fellow Akwaibomites.

2. I stand here, humbled yet energized by the massive support and overwhelming vote of confidence in my capacity to be your Servant-Leader in the next four years that you showed me yesterday, at the polls. It was peaceful, credible, fair and a ringing expression of the will of our people.

3. You came out massively to vote for the continuation of the peace and security of lives and property we have enjoyed in the last almost eight years; the continuation of a Christ-centric leadership, of humility in governance, compassion, competence, character and development across all sectors. You did this, so our children and generations yet unborn will enjoy the dividends of democracy and live happily, in brotherhood, love and unity.

4. I dedicate this victory to God, for the grace He has shown me, for the strength to carry on, in the face of several challenges and for the inner peace to keep moving with my eyes clearly set on the ball and not to be distracted. To THAT SAME GOD be all the glory!

5. Let me specifically thank my Political Father, the Leader of our Party, our dear Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for seeing in me, what others may not have seen. Thank you Your Excellency, for standing by me, for leading the troop for the continuation of good governance, for insisting that what God has started in Akwa Ibom State, must continue and the story be told in more enchanting chapters.

6. To our First Lady, and our Campaigner-in Chief, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Udom Emmanuel, thank you for the long hours, the soaring speeches at campaigns which ultimately manifested in the massive victory we got yesterday.

7. I pledge to you, Your Excellency and our dear people who have bought into your vision that I will not disappoint in this onerous task God has placed on my shoulders. Like you have shown, I am coming thoroughly prepared to hit the ground running from Day One.

8. Let me thank my family, my dear Wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, my wonderful children, their spouses, my siblings and grand-children, my extended family for providing me the comfort and unwavering support and prayers in the face of vile and manufactured lies and propaganda that were concocted against me. I know how emotionally traumatized those moments may have been, but the battle is over now, and I bear no grudges.

9. Let me thank the Church, and Fathers in Faith for your prayers and intercessions. I am one of you, and I pledge to continue to run a Christ-Centric administration where good will always trump evil, and where morality and good conscience will form the building blocks of our administration.

10. To our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), our Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan and the State Executive Working Committee, our Campaign Council Director General, H.E. Ambassador Assam Assam (SAN), the members of the Campaign Council and all the Directorates, you all deserve a huge pat on the back for staying true to our convictions and your unyielding dedication to our victory at the polls.

11. To the youths of Akwa Ibom State, thank you for maintaining the peace and taking ownership of the collective destiny and aspirations of our people to live in peace. By your avowed dedication to end violence and embrace peace, we were able to have a very peaceful elections yesterday. Kudos to you all!

12. Let me commend my opponents for putting up a good fight. In any political contest, a winner must emerge and today, it has pleased God to place me as the winner of this contest. I hereby extend an olive branch and my hand of fellowship to all my brothers who contested with me, to join me in building the Akwa Ibom State where the symphonies of peace, development, love, unity and brotherhood would continue to ring louder and bind us all even deeper together.

13. As a pastor, I harbor no hate or animosity towards any one. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “with malice towards none, with charity for all”, I promise to run an all-inclusive government, where no one would be punished or victimized on account of holding a different political opinion.

14. We are all Akwaibomites first and foremost before our political labels. Political parties are vehicles to attain power, they cannot substitute the bond of unity and brotherhood we have all shared for centuries.

15. It is a known fact that politics may have created a gulf of alienation in some sections of our society. I hereby pledge to set up a Reconciliation Committee to bring our brothers and sisters together and look at things that deepen our unity than those that divide us.

16. We have enjoyed peace and security, development across all sectors in the past almost eight years. Governor Udom Emmanuel has given us world- class infrastructure, industries, great healthcare services, tourism, aviation, through Ibom Air, among other great and enduring achievements. We will deploy our resources to the task of building our people, engendering agricultural revolution, stem rural-urban migration and other avenues of wealth creation as clearly outlined in our A.R.I.S.E. Agenda.

17. Akwa Ibom is Rising and it will always be! As we all join hands with one voice to kick-start this journey of our next phase growth and development as a State, I therefore, once again implore us all to jettison all forms of bickering, hatred, malice, blackmail, pull-down syndrome and their attendant retrogressive tendencies, so that we can jointly build the AkwaIbom of our dreams.

18. Thank you for this great opportunity to serve, God bless Akwa Abasi Ibom State, God bless us all!

Thank you the Man of the Moment!

SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF LABOUR PARTY MR. PETER OBI...last night.

FELLOW NIGERIANS.

At this point, I want to address everyone and all my followers and all humble obidatti that your efforts, prayers and votes are not in vain.

It's obvious and clear that the level of manipulation of results this time is well seen with evidence of videos flying all over. I wish to say that this matter is still not over because lies can't stand in this country for long. The truth is coming and it's coming with facts.

Let all labour party voters and supporters be peaceful and be of a calm and prayerful spirit. God is preparing something behind the scene, something is cooking. In this country Nigeria, Peter Obi will be declared the winner and sworn in as the president of Nigeria.

Don't let the current drama deceive you or make you feel that God doesn't answer prayers, all are the trick of the Devil. The victory that is coming at last shall be glorious and shall shake the world...
~ HE Peter Obi

Many Thanks To The People of Cross River North Senatorial District:

I cannot find words to express my appreciation to the good People of Cross River North Senatorial District. On behalf of my family and my Party, I thank the Elders of Cross River North, the Women, our vibrant Youth and all those who stood by us and defended our Votes.

The Victory is divine and we can only give God, the glory. We thank the Clergy, for their the prayers and constant intercessions.

I also appreciate our Principal, my opponent, H. E. Gov Ben Ayade, who had all the powers to compromise the electoral process, but stayed on the path of honor. He lost out because, it was not his time to have it and not because I am stronger. There is time for everything. As Christians, we are taught that, even Jesus Christ did everything, at the appointed time. He remains our Governor and our Leader. We will always respect him and join hands to move Cross River State forward.

Finally, I thank my Party, for giving me the opportunity of being their Candidate.

May God bless all of you.

Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe
Cross River North Senatorial District.

AFRICAN ON THE PLATFORM;;
CITATION OF SEN. PROF. SANDY OJANG ONOR

Senator Professor Sandy Ojang Onor is a distinguished public intellectual, capacity builder, cosmopolitan scholar, indefatigable humanist, academic colossus, courageous and visionary politician, lover of his community and a highly quoted professor of History.

He was born at the Holy Family Joint Hospital in Ikom, Cross River State on February 14, 1966. He began his primary school education soon after the end of the civil war at St. Martin’s Primary School, Ikom (1971 - 1973) and later transferred to St. Francis Primary School, Obubra (1973 - 1975) where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. In 1976, he proceeded to the famous St. Brenda’s College, Iyamoyong, Obubra, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1981.

In 1983, he was admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in the University of Calabar, where he demonstrated outstanding brilliance and excellence by graduating top of his class with BA Hons. Degree in History in 1987, a feat which earned him an offer of automatic employment by the University as Graduate Assistant.

The then University’s policy of retaining its best products as an insurance for a future of continuity in the tradition of excellent scholarship left him with no chance of considering other employment options that were available to him, including those that had better economic prospects. Till date, there are stories of how the heroes of the Calabar School of History, including Professors Okon Edet Uya, Erim Odey Erim, Geofrey N. Uzoigwe, Monday B. Abasiattai, Monday E. Noah to name but a few celebrated his addition to the academic staff list of the Department.

With encouragement and support from these renowned scholars, he enrolled almost immediately for an M.A. programme in the same Department. Just barely a year into the programme, he was advanced to the Ph.D programme on account of his outstanding performance and aptitude for independent research. He successfully completed the Ph.D. programme in 1993 at the age of 27.

Senator Professor Sandy Onor has demonstrated intellectual sagacity and brilliance at all levels of his education and public service with various awards and commendations as testimonies of his sterling qualities.

Senator Professor Sandy Onor has demonstrated both passion and erudition in humanistic scholarship. He has mentored and nurtured several generations of Nigerian students, some of whom are now established scholars and professionals in their own right.

The profundity of his intellect, the incisiveness of his analysis and the masterly delivery of his lectures are well-known and admired by myriads of people in several places. From the position of Graduate Assistant, he grew steadily through the ranks and became Senior Lecturer in 1997, a position with which he left the university in 1999 to serve as the Executive Chairman of Etung Local Government Council; a move that caused deep regret, at the time, within the circle of senior academics in History Department to whom Senator Professor Sandy Onor had become a source of pride and hope for vigorous intellectual sustenance.

Interestingly, in show of patriotism rare in our days, he returned to the University of Calabar classroom in 2016 as Associate Professor in History and in that capacity provided mentoring and inspiration to junior academics and graduate students in the University of Calabar. With a strong dislike for academic pretension, he ploughed himself back fully as the intellectual workaholic he has always been and worked tirelessly in expanding the frontiers of knowledge. This paid off when the Senate of the University of Calabar elevated him to the rank of Professor in October, 2019.

Endowed with prodigious intellect and analytical skills, Senator Professor Onor has long emerged as an internationally respected and highly referenced scholar, especially in the areas of Historiography and Historical Methods, African Social, Economic and Political History, Democracy and Democratization in Africa, and Local Government Administration. He has solely authored four books, co-authored one book and co-edited four volumes. He has several book chapters in addition to journal publications spread across reputable local and foreign journals. A widely travelled scholar, Senator Professor Sandy Onor has attended and delivered papers/lectures in several conferences and workshops. As a consummate public intellectual, he has lost count of the number of lectures he has presented at several fora. Always at the cutting edge of scholarship, Professor Onor is seen in many quarters as the final authority in Ejagham History.

His seminal works, The Ejagham Nation in the Cross River Region of Nigeria (1994 and 2016) and the Leopard’s Touch: Historical Essays on the Ejagham of the Cross River Region of Nigeria (2018) continue to be cited in high-impact factor publications by local and foreign scholars. Among his works in progress is The Tragedy of Followership in Nigeria. As a scholar, therefore, the Senator and Professor’s mind is fecund and full of verve.

Senator Professor Sandy Onor is vehement in his opposition to the idea of the impervious scholar, who, like the hermit, is isolated from the public and works in a world of his own. He has, by his writings and public activities, contributed immensely to nation building and development in Nigeria. He has cultivated, groomed and touched many lives and communities positively across the country.

He was the Executive Chairman of Etung Local Government Council from 1999 to 2002, he also became the Deputy National President of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria and, later, the Acting National President of the Association. He had served in 2003 as Cross River State Coordinator of Obasanjo/Atiku Presidential Campaign. In fact, he was for many years the Director-General of PDP Campaign Organisations in Cross River State, a period within which he was affectionately nick-named “D.G Fantastic,” because of his uncommon civility and legendary breakthroughs for the party. In 2005, he represented Cross River State in the Political Reform Conference, where he made significant contributions. Between 2010 and 2013, Senator Professor Onor superintended over the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment as Commissioner. He had previously served as Chairman, Cross River State Local Government Service Commission.

In all these positions, Professor Sandy Onor’s noble deeds have remained impactful and transcended his tenures in those offices. Because of his rare leadership qualities and love for humanity, the good people of Central Cross River Senatorial District gave him their mandate to represent them as Senator in the 9th Assembly of the Nigerian Senate, where he has distinguished himself in many ways. People from various walks of life who have had the privilege of listening to him make contributions on the floor of the Nigerian Senate are in agreement that he is, indeed, a square peg in a square hole; so much at home in the hallowed chamber. It was his enchanting oratory and analytic depth that prompted the declaration, by the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, that Senator Onor be crowned the Orator of the Nigerian Senate despite the fact that he belongs with the opposition party.

It is indeed gratifying that Senator Professor Onor continues to exude the intellectual precocity that has defined and branded his phenomenal life. The litany of awards of honour and distinction deservedly showered on him are in acknowledgement and appreciation of his commitment to the building of individuals, communities, churches, student bodies, institutions and organizations.

Senator Professor Sandy Onor is happily married to the amiable, lovely, quintessential and indefatigable Ntunkae Barrister (Mrs.) Gertrude Manyo Onor, a lover of humanity, who has been a rock of stability, motivation and support to him. The marriage is blessed with a son, Sandy Onor, Jnr. Gertrude is an extraordinary wife, mother, friend, intercessor and house keeper par excellence.

Professor Onor is always conscious of the pivotal role of his family in his towering achievements and appreciates the equanimity with which they have over the years tolerated his deep romance with scholarship and politics, which infringes on his attention to them.

There might not have been any signs in the Cosmos, or even in the forests of Nsofang to herald the birth of an avatar, when Senator Professor Sandy Onor was born into the world. But when a man is cut out for greatness, nature automatically aligns with his struggle from infantile translucence to full blown brightness. This has been the lot of Senator Professor Sandy Onor, who is without doubt a living emblem of the best of human values - commitment to serve others, sacrifice, honesty, sincerity and moral courage. He has consistently reminded Nigerians that they could pursue wealth honourably and live modestly rather than pursue wealth in a way that would endanger the wellbeing of others.

This is the man we are projecting for the Governorship seat of Cross River State. He is the Original Caterpillar, and he has come for the good of the people. Let’s vote for him.
