THE ABASIONO OKON THAT AKWA IBOM PEOPLE KNOW

"When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him," says the scripture as recorded in Proverbs 16:7. This implies that when a person's life and actions align with God's will, God may even cause those who are opposed to him or hate him for no reason to have peace with him. That is the story of Dr. Abasiono Okon, a proud son of Ikono local government area, who like Christ is going about doing good to the generality of people.

Abasiono Okon is not a strange fellow in the politics of Akwa Ibom State. He was among leaders of Akwa Ibom youth structures under the immediate past administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel and made positive inputs through different empowerment programs for the women and youth respectively.

He has been very relevant in the state and also played prominent roles at different political era either at the State level or in his local government area of Ikono. It is unfortunate that the ongoing campaign of calumny and mudslinging to smear his name in public is a subtle plot to demarket him ahead of 2027 State House of Assembly election in Ikono State Constituency.

Again, as recorded in Matthew 10:36 says, "the enemy of a man is a member of his household," the ongoing paid media onslaught by Prof. Utipmfon Jimmy and his co-conspirators is aimed to antagonize a man who is already blessed and favoured by God, and it will fail woefully.

Abasiono Okon is a businessman and philanthropist of high repute with track records of integrity, accountability and prudential management of both human and material resources. He is the CEO/MD of Abaringo Nig. Ltd. The Ikono born businessman believe that hardwork and perseverance were essential for success.

Abasiono Okon's remarkable business and professional accomplishments serve as a testament of his unwavering dedication, unrelenting passion for excellence, and his enduring legacy for community development. His legacy will continue to inspire the younger generations to come.

He holds Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Prowess University, Delaware USA, and another PhD in view from University of Abuja. He is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria and Fellow, Institute of Arts Management and Professional Studies. He is also a Member, Charted Institute of Information and Management.

Facebook celebrity Anwulika Udanoh and David Bobbitt’s Marriage Ends After Just Two Months

In a surprising turn of events, the marriage between Anwulika Udanoh and her Canadian husband, David Bobbitt, has hit the rocks just two months after their wedding photos were celebrated on Facebook. The couple has now publicly announced that they are no longer together.

According to David, tensions escalated after Anwulika went out clubbing with her cousins and friends one night and did not return home until 3 a.m. David, concerned about her late return, questioned her about it, believing that as a married woman, she should not have been out so late. However, Anwulika perceived his concerns as controlling, which led to a heated argument.

Rumours have swirled that Anwulika might have been out with someone named Akachukwu that night, but these claims have not been confirmed. Following the incident, David stated that Anwulika has been treating him with increasing disrespect, which has strained their relationship.

David, who has expressed his love for Nigeria and its people, admitted that he might not have spent enough time getting to know Anwulika before they tied the knot. He is now heartbroken and revealed that Anwulika has never apologized for her actions, leaving him unable to tolerate the ongoing disrespect.

The couple, whose marriage lasted only two months, has both confirmed that they are now separated, marking a sudden and unfortunate end to their brief union. The news has sparked considerable discussion on social media, where their wedding was once celebrated with joy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MKPISONG FRANK ARCHIBONG @ 49

Since I came in contact with you some years ago, you have shown that leadership is all about the people. You placed much priority on your people and go all out to promote the cause of the people.

Sir, you have always been there for me. You were there for me in my moment of incarceration at Abuja. You did everything within your power to get me freedom knowing very well that I didn't kill or get involved in any criminal activity, but a victim of the hazard of the pen profession. You acted like a father even beyond my expectation. God bless Hon. Frank Archibong.

When I put up an event just about two months ago, you showed up big time. You came all out for me when all hope was gone. You are indeed a dependable partner.

Honourable Commissioner, your good deeds are uncountable. In the last three days, you organized free medical outreach for the people and I witnessed over 70 people were operated of hynea and fibroid in just two days free of charge and still counting. Your benevolence and generosity is unquantifiable. You are indeed an asset in Ekid Nation and Akwa Ibom State in general. I celebrate the grace of God in your life, especially your humanitarian gesture.

God will continue to bless you even beyond your imagination. You will grow from glory to glory. Today, is not a speech making day. Let me reserve the energy for next year August 19 when you climb the 5th floor.

Happy birthday Boss and wishing you divine protection against your adversaries.

GOV. ENO GALVANIZES DIASPORA SUPPORT TO BOOST A'IBOM DEVELOPMENT, ACTUALIZE ARISE AGENDA
.. Assures state will remain most peaceful, enterprising, growth-driven subnational

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called indigenes in the diaspora to demonstrate their love for motherland by deploying their skills and resources towards boosting the development of the State.

Governor Umo Eno made the call while addressing the 2024 Convention of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (AKISAN, USA), at Sheraton Music City Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

While commending the institutionalized unity among Akwa Ibom people across the fifty states of America and their promotion of the rich cultural heritage of their motherland, he thanked the AKISAN under the leadership of Mr. Itoro Akpan Iquot for its interest in the affairs of their home state, especially for their support towards the success of his election as governor.

He also felicitated Miss Ukeme Awakessien-Jeter, on her emergence as Mayor of the Upper Arlington City in Ohio, being the first person of colour to be so elected in over a hundred years, describing her as a proud daughter of Nsit Ibom, Akwa Ibom State.

He expressed the sentiments of the government and people of the state in celebrating with them and solicited the cooperation and collaboration of AKISAN to galvanize the people into believing in Akwa Ibom as an exceptional State, governed by an array of exceptional leaders who have left indelible marks in the State.

He assured everyone that his government would further position the State as one of the most peaceful, most enterprising and most growth-driven subnational in Nigeria.

The Governor urged Akwa Ibom indigenes to maintain their honour as good ambassadors of the state by joining hands with the government at home to pursue the actualization of the ARISE Agenda which he said , is sure to grow the State and benefit its people.

"It is always heartening to see the love that you all radiate, the deep affinity and passion you show towards our cultural heritage and the intentional manner you have launched and introduced your children to the strands of this rich cultural tapestry is heart warming.

"I see unity here in full display as our people come together from the forty-eight contiguous states and even from Alaska and Hawaii to celebrate our culture and wear our identity as badges of honour and pride.

"I urge you, as our ambassadors, to join hands with us and let’s grow our state by bringing in your unique gifts and skill sets. Akwa Ibom is your dear state, you must invest in her growth and development," the Governor stated.

Presenting a scorecard of his administration's strides so far in the implementation of the ARISE Agenda, Governor Eno enumerated that the State Government in prioritizing agriculture towards food security has designated every first and third Friday as “Farm days,” intensified rural development through the provision of potable water, roads, electricity, healthcare services, and other social safety needs to stem rural-urban migration.

Furthermore, in recognition of security as the foremost function of government, the Governor said upon being sworn in, he created a full-fledged Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, manned by a retired General of the Nigerian Army, Koko Essien, to maintain peace and continue to attract investors and tourists to the state.

Similarly , he said in the education sector, government was building model primary schools in almost all the local government areas, equipped with residential quarters for key staff.

He also used the opportunity to appreciate Akwa Ibom youths for maintaining the peaceful atmosphere of the State throughout the nationwide protest that engulfed the country.

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring the security and welfare of every Akwa Ibom person, affirming that there are brighter days ahead for Akwa Ibomites at home and in the diaspora.

PASTOR UMO ENO AS A COMPASSIONATE LEADER 1

BY EKANEM NOAH

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, former First Lady of the United States of America and one of the renowned American Political Figures once said “To handle yourself, use your head, to handle others, use your heart”.

Compassionate leaders are known to lead and manage with both their heads and their hearts in order to inspire himself and others. They are seen to be thoughtful kind, supportive and open minded. Compassionate leadership combines leadership skills with empathy. They focus only on what is best for the citizenry and are always committed to improving their welfare and happiness.

Since assumption of office as the 5th Civilian Governor of Akwa Ibom State on May 29, 2023, Governor Umo Eno has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he is a compassionate Leader gleaned from the above stated characteristics.

As the popular saying goes “a chick that will grow to become a c**k is spotted the first day it is hatched”, Pastor Umo Eno’s compassionate leadership posture was noticed within the first few days of assumption of office when he embarked on a life touching projects for ordinary indigenes.

Worried by health hazards and security threats posed by poor drainage system, bad road, lack of water system and darkness that often enveloped Popular Akpan Andem market located in the heart of the State Capital city of Uyo, he quickly embarked on the construction of Ndiya Street, the street that leads to the market alongside internal roads within the market complimented with quality drains and solar powered street lightings. He went further to provide solar powered boreholes with overhead tanks in strategic places around the market to ensure a clean and habitable environment. He completed and commissioned the project within the first 100 days in office. This otherwise slump- like environment has today been transformed to secure, clean and healthy place for traders and their customers for their business transactions. One could only imagine what could have happened during the recent cholera outbreak reported in some states if that market was left the way it was. This project has not only help in improving the hygienic condition vis-à-vis the health and wellbeing of the traders and their customers in the market, it has added to making the State maintain her enviable position as the cleanest in the country.

In addition to creating conducive ambience for learning in various institutions of learning in the State, Pastor Umoh Umo has been distributing exercise books to Primary and Secondary Schools across the State. He also sews and distributes School Uniforms and sandals to pupils of public schools free of charge. This has greatly encouraged mass enrolment of pupils in public primary schools in the state. It has also been a big relieve to parents who have been finding it difficult to meet the financial obligations in purchasing these items for their wards due to harsh economic condition in the country.

Since assumption of office, his administration has been awarding scholarship to indigent students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. He is currently on the process of paying Ten Thousand Naira (N10, 000.00) bursary to undergraduates of Akwa Ibom origin in all Public Tertiary institutions in the country. Master Kentimfon Ndanyonymong, the winner of Heirs Life National Essay Competition is currently enjoying N10 million Scholarship for training in any tertiary institution of his choice from Pastor Umo Eno.
Governor Umo Eno’s people centric leadership and commitment to workers welfare has greatly endeared him to civil servants in the State. His approval for 13th month basic salary to Civil servants tagged ‘ENOMBER” before paying additional N20, 000 to each civil servant in the State coupled with the release of over N4billion for the payment of backlog of gratuities and leave grants of workers have not only improved the purchasing power and ameliorate the suffering of the retired Civil servants in the state but also stimulate the state’s economy.

In an effort to address the suffering of the masses occasioned by the high cost of food items in the market, Governor Umo Eno opened a social register to capture the names of vulnerable persons in the society and went on to establish Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency to carry out the distribution of food items to indigenes of the State. The food items include Rice, beans and garri meant for those captured in the State Social Register.

Recently, Past Umo Eno in a sustained move to alleviate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal on the residents in the State, embarked on massive rice distribution programme, targeting the 2,727 gazzetted villages across the ten Federal Constituencies of the State. Speaking at the commencement of the process, Dr. Offiong Offor maintained that Governor Umo Eno in demonstration of his compassionate disposition had doubled the initial 24,000 bags of rice received from the Federal to 48,000 bags. The distribution process has since been completed without any rancour to the admiration of the beneficiaries.

The Governor is also building and donating 400 fully furnished 2-bedromm homes for the most vulnerable people across the 368 wards in the State. This gesture which stands as affirmation of his inauguration speech where he promised he would champion the course of the poor and the vulnerable, himself having come from that stock, is being celebrated throughout the State and beyond.

It must be noted that the beneficiaries of these compassionate largess from Pastor Umo Eno are not restricted to Akwa Ibom indigenes but everyone irrespective of origin, political affiliation, age or religion residing in the State. Special attention is however accorded persons living with disabilities, widows and vulnerable and special groups regardless of their status.

ARISE INITIATIVE FOR THE ELDERLY: 1200 SENIOR CITIZENS IN A'IBOM GET FINANCIAL SUPPORT, MEDICAL CARE

To ameliorate the effect of the harsh economic realities in the country, 1200 elderly persons in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, August 9, 2024, have each received N50,000 and medical care as part of benefits of the ARISE Initiative For the Elderly Support Scheme, a programme established by the Akwa Ibom State Government in support of Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative for the Elderly Support Programme.

Tagged 'Caring For Our Parents', the programme which caters for the ageing and aged people in the state, drew beneficiaries from the 31 Local Government Areas and other ethnic nationalities residing in the state.

In her remarks at the event, Wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, explained that the programme was a combination of May and June editions with 600 beneficiaries selected from each of the two editions.

While acknowledging the years of service put in by the senior citizens in the advancement and development of the state, the Governor's wife expressed her continuous commitment to their health and well-being.

"This particular edition of the programme is special because it is an August celebration of a merger of two sets of beneficiaries for the months of May and June, hence this convergence of one thousand two hundred of our aged parents.

"As a Government, we are committed to your health and well-being hence, the establishment of this monthly programme by my dear husband, your Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

"Today, I acknowledge as always, the contributions made by the men and women seated in this hall, to the rapid development of the state and I appeal to you all to prioritise your health, nurture your minds and strengthen your bonds with loved ones and with God," she said.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan in her remarks appreciated the Governor and his wife for the programme and said it has eased the pains associated with the very harsh economy in the country.

Dr. Adiakpan further said that her Ministry would soon domesticate the National Ageing Framework which according to her, will provide a direction for the elderly in the State in line with the ARISE Agenda.

Similarly, the Coordinator of the ARISE Initiative For the Elderly, Mrs. Mercy Eka described the programme as one of the many people - oriented initiatives targeted at supporting those in need and giving hope to the poorest of the poor in the state.

The event featured a special tribute and presentation of a gift to Obongawan Arit Willie Ekpo, a 101 year-old from Uyo Local Government Area, who spoke on behalf of the recipients and thanked the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno and wife for giving every Akwa Ibom person a sense of belonging.

Another beneficiary and non-indigene, 65 year-old Hassan Bello, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Governor's wife for recognizing the elderly and remembering them. He prayed for God's guidance to grant the Governor the wisdom to complete his two terms successfully.

The ceremony which had in attendance the wife of the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mrs Margaret Otong, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen and wives together with other Government functionaries, featured medical checks, dancing competitions on senatorial district basis, other fun activities, as well as cultural performances by the Divine Troup of the Divine Childrens Home, making the event an unforgettable celebration.

GOVERNOR UMO ENO: BUILDING BRIDGES, DEVELOPING PEOPLE

By Edet Okpo

As Governor Umo Eno is making concerted efforts in building concrete bridges across ethnic, religious and political lines, one cannot forget the following statements Pastor Umo Eno made in a hurry:
"I hereby extend an olive branch and my hand of fellowship to all my brothers who contested with me to join hands in building the Akwa Ibom State where the symphonies of peace, development, unity and brotherhood would continue to ring louder and bind us all even deeper together.”

"I promise to run an all-inclusive government where no one would be punished or victimized on account of holding different political opinions. We are Akwa Ibomites first and foremost before our political labels. Political parties are vehicle to attain power; they cannot substitute the bond of unity and brotherhood we have all shared for centuries".
One year plus after, it is interesting and instructive to see how Governor Umo Eno is living the quoted memorable comments and the promises. He made the profound pronouncements to Akwa Ibom people in his victory speech following the announcement of results for the 2023 Governorship Election.

One can safely say, without any sentiments, that Governor Umo Eno is walking the talk. His clearly innovative strides in the last 13 months have not only been impressive but phenomenally commendable because the evidence is overwhelmingly clear.

Take for instance the promise to extend the olive branch and build metaphorical bridges across minds and mindsets in the political and apolitical domains. After Pastor Umo Eno's swearing-in on May 29, 2023, it didn't take long when he set up a reconciliation machinery to bring back and unite Akwa Ibom people who may have deranged by the fuzzy political winds of the preceded election. That initiative, from available record, was highly consequential. That perhaps explains why thousands from opposition parties had since returned to the Peoples Democratic Peoples’ fold because of one trusted shepherd. Today, it could be said with euphemism that opposition in the State almost gone even as some parties are completely dead while others are on intensive care unit.

Again, avoiding to play isolationist politics of selfish ends at the detriment of the masses, the governor effectively raised the antenna to the National Assembly and the Presidency. First, against what had been the norm in the past, he respectfully and diplomatically defied party lines by congratulating and celebrating the third-ranked citizen of Nigeria and the President of the 10th Senate, Senator( Dr.) Godswill Akpabio. Many may still find it difficult to understand the beauty of this amity that has not only gratified the immediate beneficiaries but is now affecting the whole State in terms of brotherhood, love, unity and common purpose. It is therefore no surprising that, by way of reprocity, President Bola Tinubu has found in Pastor Umo Eno a true patriot, nationalist and pacifist with a broad-mind to confide in and travel with on many occasions. Pastor Umo Eno cannot afford turning Akwa Ibom State into an island in the comity of sub-national entities. That, to me, is a paragon of leadership.

Determined to build human capacity and give Akwa Ibom Youth a huge sense of belonging, Governor Umo Eno also adopted an inclusive and participatory leadership template and set a record in the way he appointed his aides. As it stands presently, every ward in the State has a direct contact with the Government House and also receives updates on activities, programs and policies through a Personal Assistant to the Governor duly appointed from various wards across the State. This, no doubt has taken government to the grassroots and engendered a sense of belonging to all. One can boldly say without any equivocation that Pastor Umo Eno has ruralized governance in Akwa Ibom State. With the latest Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy more are to be expected.

Again, the governor has demonstrated purposeful and populist leadership aimed at giving succour and building people's confidence in government. This is with regards to the upsetting of backlog of pensions, gratuities, arrears , payment of workers’ entitlement and related matters that hitherto had left many in constant complaints and sorrow. Besides, workers salaries are promptly and steadily paid with surprised packages to boost morale and productivity. Today, it is all about testimonies and thanksgiving to God for having located a leader like Umo Eno in critical times like this.

Quite interestingly, Pastor Umo Eno has also given the fairest attention to the allocation of projects. The pattern is simple and inclusive. There must be at least one or two projects evenly spread across 31 Local Government Areas in the three senatorial districts of the State. He has followed it religiously, with contractors having been mobilized to sites. Some of the projects have been completed and commissioned while others are at their various stages of completion. This has been complemented with the Arise Agenda's Programme of building compassionate homes for the down-trodden and making avaialble N60,000 naira each month for the elderly across the State . How true the author and Educator, Stephen Convey, was: "What you do has far greater impact than what you say"!

Commendable too is the governor's determination to ensure gender equality in allocation of offices and opportunities. Now, it remains almost a law that, in the October 2024 local government election, all Vice Chairmanship position is a exclusively reserved to women; and at least six positions zoned to female chairmen across the 3 Senatorial District and at least 4 female councillors in each local government area. This panache for inclusiveness speaks volumes.

Hence, as Akwa Ibom people continue to study and tap from the utilitarian and altruistic leadership of this great Man with ecclesiastical responsibilities, they cannot but thank heavens that this is happening in their life times.

Harris introduced Walz as “more than a governor” by running through the titles he’s held over the years.

Beyond that of husband and father, Harris said he was “Sergeant Major Walz” to his fellow veterans, “Congressman” to voters of southern Minnesota, “Mr. Walz” to the high school students he used to teach and “Coach” to the football players he coached.

“And in 91 days, the nation will know Coach Walz by another name: vice president of the United States,” Harris said to cheers.
