According to a report by Times of Israel on Thursday, July 17, 2025, a 33-year-old teacher from the Negev, Tahani Abu Samhan, has been formally charged with spying for Iran by Israeli authorities.

Prosecutors allege she secretly filmed fighter jets taking off from the Nevatim airbase during the recent war and relayed the videos to an Iranian intelligence agent.

The indictment was filed in the Beersheba District Court following her arrest in June.

According to police statements, Abu Samhan maintained contact with the Iranian operative over the course of a year, fully aware of the person’s identity and mission.

Unlike many others recruited by Iran who are paid in cryptocurrency, Abu Samhan received her compensation in cash. To avoid detection, she used a separate phone for communicating with her handler.

The accused is a member of Israel’s Bedouin community and is reportedly a mother of five children.

During interrogation, Abu Samhan claimed she did not intend to harm Israel’s security and said her actions were motivated by a desire to collect money for charitable donations, not personal gain.

However, the prosecution has dismissed these claims, stressing the gravity of her offenses amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Prosecutors charged her with maintaining contact with a foreign agent and passing intelligence to the enemy.

They requested that Abu Samhan be held in custody throughout the court proceedings, citing security concerns during a highly sensitive conflict period.

This case forms part of a broader wave of espionage investigations, with multiple Israelis arrested in recent months for allegedly collaborating with Iranian intelligence.

These suspects have been accused of conducting hundreds of intelligence-gathering missions targeting Israeli military installations and civilian infrastructure.

The Shin Bet and Israeli police continue to warn of active Iranian recruitment efforts targeting Israeli citizens through online contacts and financial incentives.

Authorities have vowed to pursue all such cases rigorously to protect national security.

Cameroon’s long-serving President Paul Biya has officially declared his intention to run for an unprecedented eighth term in office; a move that could see him remain in power until he is nearly 100 years old.

Biya, who took office in 1982, made the announcement via social media on Sunday, ending months of speculation with the words: “Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face.”

Now 92, Biya is the world’s oldest sitting head of state. Despite rarely appearing in public and facing mounting health rumours, especially after a 42-day disappearance last year, he remains a central figure in Cameroonian politics, having removed term limits in 2008.

However, the declaration has sparked renewed outcry from critics and opposition leaders who say his extended rule has stalled democracy and economic development. Some of his former allies have already broken ranks and declared independent bids ahead of the October 12 vote.

Meanwhile, civil society groups are warning that the country may face a succession crisis if the veteran leader becomes too ill to govern or dies in office, especially amid ongoing security crises in the English-speaking regions and persistent Boko Haram attacks in the north.

Cameroon, which has had only two presidents since independence in the early 1960s, now stares at a crossroads moment.

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.

A brief statement issued on Sunday afternoon by his longtime media aide, Garba Shehu, confirmed that the former leader passed away in a London clinic at the age of 82.

Shehu’s statement, shared with the press, read: “INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIRRAJIUUN.

The family of the former president has announced the passing of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”

He signed off with the date: July 13, 2025.

No further details were provided regarding the cause of death. Still, Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, had a long history of seeking medical treatment in the United Kingdom during and after his presidency.

Recall that Buhari, who had been battling an undisclosed ailment, was recently discharged from an intensive care unit in London, according to family sources.

He was said to have taken ill during a routine medical visit abroad and had remained under observation in the weeks leading up to his passing.

Though details of the illness were not made public, the former president was believed to be recuperating until his condition took a turn.

The Retired Major General and one of Nigeria’s most recognisable political figures, Buhari served first as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, before returning as an elected president in 2015.

His two-term civilian presidency, which ended in 2023, was defined by a sweeping anti-corruption agenda, an economic reform programme, and sustained efforts to address insecurity across the country.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming hours, as tributes begin to pour in from across Nigeria.

Poland Women vs Denmark Women predictions: Disappointed Danes can salvage some pride.

Only pride is left at stake for Group C rivals Poland Women and Denmark Women, who are each aiming to avoid a clean sweep of losses when they go head to head at Allmend Stadion in their final match at Euro 2025.

Denmark were runners-up at Euro 2017 and had high hopes of at least reaching the knockout rounds this summer, but their hopes have been dashed by narrow defeats to Sweden (0-1) and Germany (1-2).

There were more modest expectations of Poland, who are playing at the finals for the first time in their history.

The Poles were the fourth seeds in the section and failed to make much of an impact as they slid to rather one-sided defeats against Germany (0-2) and Sweden (0-3).

Poland head coach Nina Patalon must assess the fitness of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Paulina Dudek, who missed Tuesday's 3-0 loss to Sweden with a foot injury.

Midfielder Ewelina Kamczyk and forward Natalia Padilla were introduced at half-time against the Swedes and are pushing for starting berths.

The Danes will be forced into at least one change with midfielder Emma Snerle going through the concussion protocol.

Captain and forward Pernille Harder (the all-time top scorer for her country) is set to keep her place as she aims to increase her 78-goal international tally.

The stats
Denmark have gone 17 games without registering a draw.

Five of Denmark’s last eight matches have featured goals for both teams.

Four of Poland’s last five games have generated at least three goals.

Poland have scored three goals or more in three of their last five fixtures.

Liverpool soccer star Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in Spain with his younger brother, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said.

The 28-year-old Jota, who won the Premier League title with Liverpool last season and played for Portugal’s national team, got married to Rute Cardoso just two weeks ago. The couple have three children together.

The crash occurred near Zamora in northwestern Spain. Jota’s brother, André Silva, was also killed, according to the FPF. Silva, 26, played for Penafiel in the second tier of Portuguese soccer.

Spain’s Guardia Civil said in a statement that their investigation “points to a road accident due to a burst tire while overtaking,” which occurred at 00:30 a.m. local time.

The police force added that the car, which Spanish media said was a Lamborghini, subsequently caught fire.

“The Portuguese Football Federation and all the Portuguese football are completely devastated by the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andres Silva this morning in Spain,” the federation said in a statement.

“Much more than a fantastic player with nearly 50 caps for the national team, Diogo Joto was an extraordinary person, respected by colleagues and adversaries, someone with a contagious joy and a reference in his own community.”

Jota played an important role in Liverpool’s recent title-winning season, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances.

He began his career at Portuguese club Paços de Ferreira before moving to Atlético Madrid in Spain. While at Atlético, Jota was loaned to Porto and then Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he helped guide the English club from the Championship into the Premier League.

“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” the team said in a statement.

“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.”

Sean Combs (Puffy Daddy) found guilty of prostitution charges but not guilty of most serious counts.

• JUST IN: In a mixed verdict, jurors in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal criminal trial found him guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, but acquitted him of the most serious charges: racketeering conspiracy and s*x trafficking.

• Sentencing outlook: Combs, who pleaded not guilty to all charges, now faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison for the each of the transportation convictions. If he had been convicted of any of the other counts, the 55-year-old could have faced up to life in prison.
Defense attorney says Combs should be released today.

Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo says that Sean “Diddy” Combs “should be released on appropriate conditions” in light of the fact that Combs has been acquitted on racketeering and s*x trafficking.

He says Combs would go back to his house in Miami and abide by conditions set by the court. Combs does not have access to his plane, and his entire family is here, Agnifilo said, and “any three of them, any five of them can sign onto a bond.”

Judge Arun Subramanian thanked the jurors for their “tremendous sacrifice” over the course of the trial.

“I want you to know that it is inspiring to all of us. You listened, you worked together, you were here every day, rain or shine. You did so with no reward, other than the reward that comes from answering the call of public service. That should give all of us hope,” he said.

The judge said he would meet the jurors to thank them personally for their service.

Judge Arun Subramanian told the jurors that members of the press and others will likely try to speak with them about the case now.

“There is an important reason to respect the privacy of your deliberations,” he said. “That being said, the choice of whether to speak to others about the case and your personal views is up to you.”

He told them not to speak about other jurors’ views or how the deliberations played out.

Sean “Diddy” Combs was found guilty by a federal jury on charges of transportation to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of the most serious charges in a case that featured salacious allegations that he coerced women into s*xual encounters with other men called sometimes referred to as “Freak Offs.”

Combs, 55, was charged with five counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy and two counts each of s*x trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

He was found not guilty on racketeering conspiracy and s*x trafficking.

He faces a sentence of up to 10 years.
