I was in primary 3 preparing for promotional examination to primary 4. My grandpa was working with one Korean company in Ibadan, then. He was monied that he used to procure groundnut for us whenever he returned from work at dawn.

One day, I had gone to pluck guava at Mama l'oje's house. This old woman would fix her eyes on us to ensure that we didn't pluck more than our money worth, yet pupils would always be. My grandpa had arrived fuming after having heard they didn't know my whereabouts. It was late around 6pm before I got home. They were already organizing a search party, then I showed up. Grandpa surveyed me from head to toe. With that look I already knew I had had it. Instead of thrashing me, he lured me to face my studies. He promised me so many things. He promised he was going to get me a "Palito" if I pass my promotional examination. A news item I was yawning to hear.

Ultimately, I brilliantly promoted to primary 4. Just as he had promised, grandpa bought me the Palito radio. Quickly, I metamorphosed into a 'big boy' in my area. I would bounce around listening to Sisco, Tony Tetula, Idris Abdulkareem and others.

Definitely, if you were in my class range then, you must be 30plus years old now. To those in my age range still struggling to make ends meet, may God gift us His blessings- Amen!

'Will you marry me?' , I asked when I ran into her beside a building.

Adebimpe was a damsel many boys had betted upon. At an inn around a reserved centre in Ibadan, I met her. She was frankly slim, straight- figured with curve hips. I was afraid of approaching her. One, I learnt she was abusive; two, she was sassy. I doubted she could sleep on my words. And she's a scholar. Tade told me she's arrogant.

'Arrogant!', I exclaimed. That, I guess because my friend, Tade was not brilliant. After all, I could speak. I could write.

I remember we've once met at a function I emceed. Though, we didn't interact.

I had inquired her. All I could gather regarding her seemed suitable and pleasant. I thought I could talk to her. As an MC, I shouldn't have such phobia. The difference is clear; being an emcee has nothing to do with courage to woo, courage to say hello to a damsel.

I've been very confused for a while now.

Now that we've met one to one, simple expression, after body languages were exchanged:

' Will you marry me?'
She blushes.

*SUBEB Recruitment: Oyo Govt Releases Interview Dates For Applicants*

Oyo state government through the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has fixed Wednesday, August 14 to Friday, August 23, 2024, for interview dates for applicants.

Recall that the Board recently announced the result of teachers, who sat for its Computer-Based Tests in Ibadan.

In a statement by the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran on Wednesday, the interview sessions will take place at the Board’s headquarters at Agodi, Ibadan.

Dr. Adeniran noted that 45, 827 sat for the CBT examination, while only 8,197, met the 50% cut-off mark.

In the statement, Dr. Adeniran said the interview sessions, will be headed by himself and relevant stakeholders from different agencies.

Dr. Adeniran gave the interview schedules as follows:

Wednesday l, August 14, 2024: Egbeda, and Atisbo local government areas.

Thursday, August 15, 2024: Akinyele, Afijio, and Ibarapa central.

Friday, August 16, 2024: Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, Lagelu, and Iwajowa.

Monday, August 19, 2024: Ido and Ibadan South West Local Government Areas.

Tuesday, August 20, 2024: Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, and Ogbomoso South local government areas.

Wednesday, August 21, 2024: Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West, Surulere, and Ogo-Oluwa local government areas.

Thursday, August 22, 2024: Ibadan South-East, Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan North-West.

Friday, August 23, 2024: Oluyole and Ona Ara local government areas.

Dr. Adeniran urged all candidates to come with print-outs of their application slip, CBT result slip, and interview schedule slip.

The OYOSUBEB Boss said they also need to bring relevant credentials, they uploaded on the job portal, such as evidence of local government of origin, local government of residency, Date of birth certificate, NIN certificate, original Certificates from their institutions, original NYSC certificate (for graduates), change of name for married women and other relevant documents.

The Chairman noted that the scheduled time is 9 a.m. each day.

He maintained that the Board will uphold its role in implementing a better basic education system in the state.

Dr. Adeniran, who wished the applicants a safe trip to the Board’s headuarters, urged them to comport themselves during the interview sessions.

He further advised all candidates to log into their portal to ascertain their scheduled dates of interview.
