OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2025

TOPIC: HEARING FROM GOD, PART 1

MEMORIZE:
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17 (KJV)

BIBLE READING: GENESIS 1:2-3
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

MESSAGE:
The first time God spoke in the Bible was in today's Bible reading. To understand what it takes for God to speak to you, you must study that passage of the Scripture carefully. Before He spoke, the Spirit of God moved over the face of the earth. This means that God speaks whenever the Holy Spirit is in operation.

If you want to hear from God, the Holy Spirit must be in operation around you. Once you know how to stir Him in you, you will constantly hear from Him. I hear from God frequently when I am preaching because usually, before I step on any altar to minister, the congregation would have spent some time worshipping God. Then, when I step on the altar, I would continue to worship and eulogise God. When I am done, and it is time to preach, the Spirit of God would have saturated the entire place, and He would begin to speak to me.

Ministers who do not hear from God will struggle because hearing from God makes ministering easy. God will tell you what and what not to do so that you won't waste your time and resources. For example, if I want to host a crusade in a particular location, I would ask Him, "Daddy, should I go?" If He says, "No," then I know that going there would be a waste of time. Some ministers go to minister in different places without hearing from God first. However, when they suffer all kinds of hardships and unnecessary persecutions, they will claim that they are suffering for Jesus. Some will say that since the Bible instructs believers to preach the gospel to all nations, they will build a church in a particular location, even though they did not ask God about it and He did not specifically instruct them to. At the end of the day, they might end up lacking the required funds to run the church and they will begin to look for people they can manipulate into giving them money.

Beloved, hearing from God and obeying His voice will always keep you at the centre of His plan and provision. Even when things get difficult, as long as you are operating in His will, He will carry you through. Consistently create an atmosphere for Him to operate in your life, and He will always lead you into higher realms of His grace and glory.

KEY POINT:
God will always speak to you when you know how to stir His Spirit in you.

HYMNAL 28 - GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH
1. Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful
hand: Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven! Feed me now and evermore (2ce)

2. Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream
doth flow: Let the fiery, cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey
through: Song deliverer! Song deliverer! Be Thou still my strength and shield (2ce).

3. If I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside: Bear me through the swelling torrent, Land me safe on Canaan's side: Songs of praises! Songs of praises! I will ever give to Thee (2ce).

4. Saviour, come! We long to see thee, long to dwell with thee above and to know in full communion, all the sweetness of Thy love. Come, Lord Jesus! Come, Lord Jesus! Take thy waiting people home (2ce)

*MEMORISE* :
“He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” - (John 16:14)

BIBLE READING: JOHN 14:16-18 (KJV)

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17;Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

*MESSAGE* :
Yesterday, I mentioned that during the dispensation of the Father in the Old Testament, people got immediate judgment for their sins. The word 'dispensation' in this context means regime. The regime of God the Father on the earth was from the beginning to the day of Pentecost. The regime of the Son will be for a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-4). There will be absolute peace during that period because the Prince of Peace will be in charge. Right now, however, we are in the regime of the Holy Spirit, which started on the day of Pentecost and is still on to date.

To prosper in a particular regime, you must understand and obey the people in charge. The One who is currently in charge of the affairs of men is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to succeed in all things, you must know the Holy Spirit and be intimate with Him. Being intimate with the Holy Spirit does not mean that you are downgrading or ignoring the Son or the Father. In today's memory verse, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will glorify Him and show us things concerning Him. Once you become intimate with the Holy Spirit, you will praise God the Father the way you should, glorify the Son the right way, pray the right way, and study God's word the right way. When you become a friend of the Holy Spirit, you have automatically become a friend of the Trinity. You can become intimate with the Holy Spirit by speaking His language often and asking Him to fill you.

It is important to note that being able to perform miracles is not evidence that a fellow is intimate with the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says that the flesh and the spirit are always in constant battle against each other. A fellow has become intimate with the Holy Spirit when he or she no longer walks in the flesh but according to the dictates of the Spirit. The people around such a fellow will testify to it when they start seeing the fruit of the Spirit at work in him or her. Jesus said in Matthew 7:16-20 that you will know a tree by the kind of fruit it produces. If the Holy Spirit is indeed your friend, you will produce good fruits that confirm your intimacy with Him.

Beloved, cultivate an intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit; He will protect and preserve you. He will also ensure that you prosper in all that you do.

*REFLECTION* :
Are you intimate with the Holy Spirit?

*TOPIC: THE TRINITY*

*MEMORISE* :
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 13:14

BIBLE READING: 1 JOHN 5:5-8 (KJV)
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

*MESSAGE* :
Many people find it difficult to understand the concept of the Trinity. The Bible says in (1 John 5:7) that the Father, the Word - Jesus according to John 1:14 - and the Holy Ghost are one. They are one, yet they are three distinct entities. I'll explain it this way: I am one man called Adeboye, but I can express myself differently in different situations. For example, if my wife breaks a ceramic plate, I will be gentle Adeboye; I will speak gently to her and ensure that she is fine. However, if it is my son, I could be furious Adeboye because I might be angry with him for being careless. I am the same person, but I'll show different sides of myself depending on what is needed in different situations.
God is one. However, He chooses to express Himself in three different forms. Water can be in liquid, gas (steam), or solid form (ice) based on changes in its temperature. In the same vein, God is one God, and He chooses to express Himself as the Holy Spirit when needed, the Word when needed, and the Father when needed. One expression is not less God than the other, just as ice or steam is not less water than its liquid form.
God the Father is the side of God that is fatherly. However, just like Adeboye the father, which I described in the first paragraph, He can be strict in this form. During the dispensation of the Father in the Old Testament, people got immediate judgment for their sins. God the Son, who is Jesus Christ, came in the flesh, so as Hebrews 4:15 says, He has feelings just like us, and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He is the most relatable to us as He has gone through the temptations we are currently going through, and He advocates for us with the Father (1 John 2:1). God the Spirit is the creative side of God. He is the One who lives in you to do the things that were otherwise impossible to you (Romans 8:11, Philippians 4:13, (1 Corinthians 3:16), (1 John 2:27), John 14:26).
Beloved, knowing the Trinity will empower you to live above limitations. Also, to enjoy God's fullness, you need to know Him as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I pray that you will experience the fullness of the Godhead in your life, in Jesus' name.

*KEY POINT* :
Knowing the Trinity will help you to enjoy the fullness of God and empower you to live above limitations.

HYMN 18: PRAISE TO THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY, THE KING OF CREATION
1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!

2 Praise to the Lord, who o’er all
things so wondrously reigneth,
Who, as on wings of an eagle,
uplifteth, sustaineth.
Hast thou not seen
How thy desires all have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

3 Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully,
wondrously, made thee!
Health hath vouchsafed and, when
heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
What need or grief
Ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.

4 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
thy work and defend thee,
Who from the heavens the streams of
His mercy doth send thee.
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.

5 Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that
is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come
now with praises before Him!
Let the Amen
Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

*THEME: VICTORY IN* *HIS NAME*

*MEMORISE* :
The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Psalm 20:1

*READ: Psalms* *118:6-12*

6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

7 The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

10 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.

11 They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

12 They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

*MESSAGE*

A person’s future can be influenced by his or her name. For example, Moses was so named in Exodus 2:10 because he was drawn out of water. throughout his lifetime, he continually had encounters with water. God used him to perform several miracles with water, including changing water to blood (Exodus 7:20), parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21), turning bitter water to sweet water (Exodus 15), and bringing water out of the rock (Exodus 17).

Names are important; this is why God had to change the names of some people in the Bible so that their destinies could be fulfilled. My mother told me that on her way to see a priest concerning my baptismal name, the name she had in mind was Elisha. However, by the time she got to the Priest, she had forgotten the name, so she told him that she would name me Enoch. When she shared this story with me, I told her that I would keep the two names-Elisha, who had a double portion of the anointing, and Enoch, the man who walked with God.

The names people are called are important to their destinies, but there is a name that is greater than all names, and that name is JESUS. In Philippians 2:9-11, the Bible says, Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father:

In Psalm 118:10-13, David revealed the secret to his victory. He said that when the nations compassed him about, he destroyed them in the name of the Lord. He understood the power in the name of the Lord.

Beloved, is there anything troubling you as a child of God? Does it have a name? If it does, I congratulate you because you have just defeated it. As long as it has a name, there is a name above it. Even if doctors can’t find a name for anything that might be troubling you medically and they say that all they can see from their diagnosis is ‘nothing’, that is still a name, and when you trust in the name of the Lord, you will always be victorious. Call on the name of the Lord today, and He will give you victory over anything that is troubling you.

*REFLECTION*

Do you have absolute trust in the name of Jesus?

*MEMORISE* :
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” - (Matthew 5:15)

BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 18:23-35 (KJV)

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

*MESSAGE* :
Every true child of God is a shining light. You are the light of the world, and Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Light has one clear duty: shining. This means that anything that stops light from shining is its enemy. As a child of God, anything that stops you from shining is your enemy, and you must deal with it.

Anything that allows darkness to gain the upper hand over light in a believer's life is an enemy. In today's memory verse, Jesus identified an object that can keep our light from shining and allow darkness to rule over light - a bushel. A bushel is typically a wooden bucket that was used for measuring dry goods such as peas or grains in the past. If someone lights a lamp in a dark room and puts it under a bushel, it will be impossible to tell that there is light anywhere in that room.

One of the most dangerous bushels that has hidden the light of many believers is unforgiveness. The dangerous thing about unforgiveness is that it comes as just one bushel, but it multiplies itself into many other bushels that cover a believer's light and keep it from shining. Unforgiveness always comes with bitterness, grudges, anger, and resentment. When someone offends you and you decide not to forgive the person, before long, you will find yourself resenting the person and refusing to speak amicably with him or her. Unforgiveness also hinders prayers from getting answered.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. (Mark 11:25-26)

Beloved, don't toy with unforgiveness; it hides a person's light and plunges the unforgiving person into darkness. When Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant in today's Bible reading, He revealed the end of those who do not forgive - they are handed over to tormentors.

Have you been hiding your light under the bushel of unforgiveness? It is time to kick it away and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). I pray that God will be glorified through your words and actions, in Jesus' name.

*KEY POINT* :
Unforgiveness is dangerous; don't let it dim your light.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” - (Psalm 46:1)

BIBLE READING: PSALM 46:1-11 (KJV)

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

*MESSAGE:*

Today's memory verse emphasises the fact that God is our very present help in times of trouble. He is the God of the past, but He is also the God of the present. He can fix anything that is affecting your present as a result of mistakes you made in the past.

One of my students while I was still a lecturer at the University of Lagos, came to me some years ago. He had a problem - he was always sweating, and his sweat smelled terribly. Nobody could sit close to him because of how bad he smelled. Different doctors had prescribed different soaps and medications to him, but the problem persisted. I was about to pray for him when God said, “No, don't pray; he needs to make a restitution." I told him what God said, and He made the required restitution. After the restitution, he returned to me so I could pray for him, but God said, "There is no need; just tell him not to drink cold water for two weeks." That was the end of the problem. Medical doctors could never have resolved this problem, but the One who is the Very Present Help went to his past, turned the situation around, and gave him a testimony.

When we say that God is very present, it means that there is nothing happening in the present that He is not aware of. It also means that He knows the best way to handle situations in the present. God's help is always very present to those who have surrendered their lives to Him. Isaiah 65:24 says, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." This means that even before you discover that you need help, the Very Present Help has gone ahead of you to provide solutions. I pray that you will experience more of God's accurate and prepared help from now henceforth, in Jesus' name.

I must, however, add that if you have not totally surrendered your life to Jesus, you cannot access His very present help. Do not be like people who boast of a past relationship with God and expect Him to help them in the present. If you are riding on past glory, it is time to renew your commitment to God. When you do this, you will then begin to enjoy His very present help.

*KEY POINT* :
God is the very present help to those who regard Him as their Lord in the present.

TOPIC: THE LORD IS MY DELIVERER

MEMORISE:
“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.” - (Psalm 40:17)

READ: Mark 7:32-37 (KJV)
32. Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him.

33. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue.

34. Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened."

35. Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

36. Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

37. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

MESSAGE:
Luke 13:11-13 tells us of a woman who was bent for eighteen years and couldn't walk uprightly. She must have visited many doctors and used different medications, all to no avail. However, when she encountered Jesus, she was set free immediately. There are some sicknesses that even the best doctors cannot treat. If you are experiencing any lingering sickness, you need just one touch from the Great Deliverer to make you whole.

When the devil afflicts a fellow with an infirmity, he adds a lot of sorrowful things to the person's life. For example, besides suffering from leprosy, lepers also suffer isolation, which might lead to depression, especially if they are abandoned by their relatives and friends. If they had thriving businesses, the businesses might automatically shut down because some people might not want to do business with them. In Luke 17:12-19, there were ten lepers who needed to be delivered from leprosy. When the Mighty Deliverer came on the scene, they were cleansed, and one of them, who returned to give thanks, was made whole. I believe this meant that he recovered everything he had lost in the past. This is what the Lord can do for you when He is your deliverer. He can restore everything the enemy might have stolen from you as if he never came near you at all. I pray that God will show Himself mighty on your behalf, deliver you from every affliction and oppression you might be experiencing, and make you whole, in Jesus' name.

We have a deliverer; He is called the Lord of Hosts (Psalm 24:10) and the Lord Mighty in Battle (Psalm 24:8). He can deliver anyone, and nobody can pluck His children from His hands.

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. (Psalm 18:2-3)

Beloved, if you haven't surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, you are His enemy, and it is a fearful thing to fall into His hands (Hebrews 10:31) because no one can deliver anyone from Him (Isaiah 43:13). Surrender your life to Him today so He can become your Great Deliverer. If you are already a child of God and are still in any form of bo***ge, I pray that the Great Deliverer will deliver you completely, in Jesus' name.

KEY POINT:
God can deliver anyone, and nobody can deliver out of His hands.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Luke 9-10

HYMNAL:
HYMN 10 - IN CHRIST ALONE

1. In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when striving cease,
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

2. In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied,
For every sin on Him was laid,
Here in the death of Christ I live.

3. There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day,
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

4. No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Could ever pluck me from His hand,
'Til He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I stand.
