Pope Francis' coffin has been sealed. The sealing ceremony took place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 8:00 PM inside St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. Cardinal Kevin Farrell presided over the rite, which included;
Placing a White Silk Veil: A white silk veil was placed over Pope Francis' face.

Sprinkling Holy Water: Holy water was sprinkled over the body.

Sealing the Coffin: A sealed metal cylinder containing the rogito (a document summarizing the pope's life) and coins minted during Pope Francis' pontificate were placed inside the coffin.

Closing the Coffin: The zinc inner coffin was sealed, and the wooden outer coffin was closed.

The ceremony marked the end of the public viewing of Pope Francis' remains, with over 250,000 people paying their respects. The funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's Square.

Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88. According to the Vatican, he died on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 7:35 a.m. in his residence at Casa Santa Marta within Vatican City. The cause of death was complications from double pneumonia, which he had been battling since February of 2025.

Pope Francis had been hospitalised several times in recent years due to various health issues, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and intestinal problems.
