Your record-breaking strides in all sectors of the State Economy capped by your fatherly dispositions to workers welfare as evidenced in your approval for clearance of arrears of pensions and gratuities of retired civil servants, promotion of workers, purchase of CNG buses to ease workers' transportation challenges, payment of living wages to workers, approval of the seventy five thousand naira minimum wage, payment of 100k upgraded to 150k Christmas bonuses to workers and many more are indicators of your preparedness to meet the desires of your people, especially Ebonyi Workers, at SATISFACTION GAUGE.

We are mostly enthused by your humility and team-play spirit which has propelled your administration in tune and speed, ahead of it's contemporaries among the comity of States.

Economic Hardship: Deputy Speaker in Ebonyi begs govt to increase salaries of workers

The Deputy Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chinedu Onah has urged the three tiers of government to increase the salaries of civil servants to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship in Nigeria

Onah made the call while speaking with newsmen after an event in Ohaukwu Local government Area of the state on Friday.

He said that civil servants in the country deserved to be treated fairly like the politicians but regretted that it was not so.

Onah claimed that the current salary status of civil servants in the country is not enough to meet the economic challenges, especially with the hike in the prices of food, increase in school fees and others.

“The federal and state governments should understand the nature of things in this country and the workers should be treated fairly. Let them enjoy the way that politicians are enjoying.

“The salaries of civil servants should be increased. No one who is paid N30,000 or N40,000 can afford N100,000 school fees for their children and you think things are good for such a person. And if he/she has two or four children in school, you see that such a person will be battling hunger.

“I’m among those who are advocating for civil servants to be paid very well so that they will be able to solve their problems. Things are difficult in Nigeria, and if you go outside Ebonyi, you will understand that things are difficult. You will know that we are in paradise in Ebonyi.

A BEFITTING FEATHER TO THE CAP OF NIGERIA'S FINEST JURIST, JUSTICE OBANDE FESTUS OGBUINYA, CON.
.............and history was made today, 26/02/2024 as His Lordship, Hon. Justice Festus Obande Ogbuinya, CON was sworn in, as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria..

His Lordship, Hon. Justice Festus Obande Ogbuinya, CON, was born on June 16, 1965 in Aminyi Kindred of Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State.

His Lordship began his educational career at the State Primary School, Oriaja, Ngbo and his secondary education at the Uga Boys’ Secondary School, UGA, Anambra State.

He obtained a Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Nigeria (UNN), Enugu Campus in 1988 and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1989.

He was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Ebonyi State on May 21, 2002 and later elevated to the Court of Appeal on November 30, 2010.

He served as a member, Governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly Election Petition tribunals in Edo, Ekiti and Lagos States.

Some key judgements to his credit, include;

* In 2020, Justice Ogbuinya read the lead judgement that nullified the tribunal decision and affirmed Duoye Diri as duly elected Governor of Bayelsa State.

* In 2016, Ogbuinya was the only Judge who dissented on the declaration of Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi State in a suit brought by Idris Wada (PDP). He annulled the election in his minority judgement.

* In 2011, Justice Ogbuinya was a member of the 5-man Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) that dismissed the suit of CPC's Muhammadu Buhari, and re-affirmed Goodluck Jonathan as duly elected.

The learned jurist was conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.

Justice Ogbuinya is married to beautiful, Dr Nkiru Edith, a Senior Lecturer at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike.

He is ranked 17th in the Seniority list of the Appeal Court.
