15 SHOCKING REALITIES IN MINISTRY
By Mfon Udoema

In the course of doing ministry over the years, I have encountered some shocking realities in ministry. By shocking reality, I mean things that others may not observe or believe about ministry but only the pastor involved.

The following are some shocking realities in ministry.

1. A large assemblage or gathering of people may not necessarily translate into large income for a ministry.

2. Before you start a ministry, so many people will urge you to start and even promise to give you money and become your members. However, when you finally start, the same people will be nowhere to be found. They won't become members neither will they give money.

3. A lot of people that are 'submitting' to you when they are small, may not necessarily be submitting to you in the true sense of the word but they're just using you to mark time until they grow and move on to that big name that was originally in their heart or mind.

4. In most instances, your family members and friends are the last to believe in you or become your members. Mfon. You can beg your siblings to come and become ministers in your ministry but they'll likely reject and prefer to be anything else in another ministry.

5. In most instances, your family members and friends that are in your ministry are likely to be the greatest rebels in your ministry.

6. People that were not close when they were in your ministry suddenly bond and become best of friends after they leave your ministry. They become 'friends' because they have a common purpose of attacking you and the ministry.

7. Most members in your Church have more than one pastor. You're likely not the only pastor or Prophet that they have.

8. A vast majority of members in your ministry belong to more than one ministry. Mfon. Quite a lot belong to a Church and a Prayer Fellowship or Ministry.

9. It is the people you help the most that will attack, betray, castigate, malign and vilify you the most.

10. When people leave the Church, they do everything within their power not to leave alone. They want to practically see the Church empty or close totally.

11. A large percentage of people don't speak well of a ministry and the leader when they leave inspite of all the good things they benefited from that ministry in the past.

12. A lot of people rendering service in Church are actually into eye service and lip service. They speak well of you in your presence, genuflect, bow, kneel or prostrate when greeting you but you'll be shocked to hear the things they say about you behind.

13. What people tolerate elsewhere without having any issue, they make a mountain out of a molehill in Church over same issue. Mfon. For instance, people don't feel bad signing a visitors form to see a doctor, lawyer or government official but get offended if you ask them to fill a visitors form (for administrative purpose) in order to see the pastor.

14. A lot of people want you to sacrifice your time, money, skills and resources in general for them but they're not ready to reciprocate same for you.

15. A lot of people are angry and upset when a Pastor begins to enjoy the good things of life like good houses, cars, jets, holidays, etc but they don't mind if any other person enjoys same.

Conclusively, as a minister, when you observe and discover the aforementioned, do the following:

- Encourage yourself in the Lord.
- Look up to the God that called you.
- Put your trust in God at all times and not in man.
- Prepare your heart for the worst at any time in ministry.
- Let no situation, occurrence or happenstance take you by surprise at any time.
- Build emotional capacity.
- Learn to forgive.
- Develop thick skin.

“YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE IS DYING BECAUSE YOUR S*X LIFE IS WILD”

Some of you are not under spiritual attack —
You’re just trying to mix holiness with horniness.

Let’s talk like men 👇🏽

1. YOU CAN’T PRAY FOR POWER AND WATCH P**N AT NIGHT

What exactly are you expecting?
Heaven to bless you while hell is clapping for you?

You pray for purity, then scroll Instagram to find temptation.
You beg God for destiny, then chase someone’s daughter to a hotel.
You cry in worship, but moan in fornication by evening.

That’s not warfare — that’s contradiction.
You’re not growing spiritually because you’re feeding your lust more than your soul.

2. S*XUAL SIN IS A SPIRITUAL LEAKAGE

It gradually drains your authority, boldness, and closeness with God.

That’s why after s*xual sin:

You feel distant from God
You become weak to pray
You don’t want to open your Bible
You avoid real men of God
You justify what you once preached against
You struggle to worship like before

It’s not punishment. It’s separation.
Sin weakens your spiritual voltage.
You can’t sin boldly and still pray boldly — it doesn’t work.

3. YOUR FIRE IS OFF BECAUSE YOUR ZIP IS OPEN

The Holy Spirit does not dwell in a temple that keeps inviting lust every weekend.

You can’t cry “Lord, use me” when you keep using your body to please strangers online.

Every time you watch p**n, you plant seeds of guilt.
Every time you ma******te, you fuel addiction.
Every time you sleep around, you dilute your spiritual oil.

Your anointing is not lost — it’s just buried under s*xual compromise.

4. YOU CAN’T CHASE GOD AND GIRLS/BOYS AT THE SAME TIME

One will leave.

It’s either:

You die to flesh and grow in Christ
OR
You live in pleasure and die spiritually

Let’s be real:
Most brothers don’t lack calling — they lack consecration.

You want prayer and p**n.
Fasting and flirting.
Spirit and s*x.
👉🏽 That’s a recipe for spiritual paralysis.

5. GOD IS NOT THE PROBLEM — YOUR LACK OF DISCIPLINE IS

You cry, “God why don’t I feel you like before?”
But last week, you were on TikTok drooling over half-naked girls.

You ask, “God, why is my fire low?”
But you haven’t gone 3 days without “releasing” into your palm.

This isn’t spiritual warfare. This is self-destruction.
You’re killing your own intimacy with God — and calling it a “dry season.”

6. SOME OF YOU ARE NOT WEAK — JUST SPIRITUALLY DISCONNECTED

Because your s*x life is out of control.

Result?

You’re losing your authority
Your dreams are filled with lust
You’re no longer bold in the Spirit
You battle guilt, shame, addiction
You no longer hear God clearly

And it all started with that small “just once” moment.

One p**n clip.
One ma********on session.
One sneaky hookup.

Now you’re hooked.
And your fire is gone.

7. FREEDOM IS NOT IN “MANAGING IT” — IT’S IN SURRENDER & DISCIPLINE

You don’t manage lust — you flee from it.
You don’t reduce p**n — you delete it.
You don’t play with s*x — you kill it's urge.

Practical steps:

Unfollow lust pages
Block sneaky links
Avoid the midnight texter
Cancel “Netflix and chill” traps
Confess struggles to brothers or mentors who’ll hold you accountable

It’s not shame — it’s survival.

-⚔️ FINAL WORD
Brother/Sister you’re not dry because God left you.
You’re dry because s*x has become a stronghold in your life.

But s*x doesn’t save — it steals.
Lust doesn’t build — it breaks.
P**n doesn’t relieve — it destroys.

👉🏽 Come back to fire.
👉🏽 Come back to purity.
👉🏽 Come back to spiritual sensitivity.

Your calling is too heavy to live with a careless zip.
Your family, your ministry, your purpose — depends on this war.

Win it.
The garment of holiness is never old fashioned!

8 LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE FRIENDSHIP OF THESE NIGERIAN FATHERS OF FAITH

A friend shows his friendship at all times — it is for adversity that [such] a brother is born.
Proverbs 17:17 CJB

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 NLT

These Elders have been close friends for over 40 years and counting.
In January, they gathered together for their friend Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai when he turned 80 and now in September, they have gathered again for their friend Bishop Mike Okonkwo at 80.

I have learned the following lessons:

1. They love themselves genuinely.
You cannot fake love for between 40-50 years.

2. They are not in competition with themselves.
They are relating genuinely without any form of competition. Mfon
Competition leads to bitterness, envy, strife, mudslinging and wickedness.

3. They have not allowed doctrinal differences to affect their friendship.
One of the fathers here has in the last couple of years embraced a doctrinal position from what the others embrace but this has not affected the genuine friendship and relationship that exists between them.

4. They don't allow any issue to come in between them.
One of the fathers here had one of his Frontline sons leave him to go and embrace his friend as his new father or mentor. Everything was handled and managed genuinely and was not allowed to generate bad blood or ill will.

5. They encourage each other.
During the 80th birthday celebration of Papa Uma Ukpai, Baba Adeboye said something profound. He said that when he lost his son, it was Papa Uma that gave him some strong words of encouragement, especially using his own experience of losing several children in one day.

6. They are always there for each other.
This friendship has taught me that nobody is too busy for someone that he loves.
This has been expressed by the fact that these fathers are always present in the milestone events of each other, not minding who is chosen to preach or not.

7. They genuinely believe in each other.
These fathers genuinely believe in themselves.
All of them have virtually hosted themselves.
They have virtually all preached for each other.
Each person believes in the grace and uniqueness of their friend.

8. They respect seniority of physical age among themselves.
I have observed that even though they all relate and operate as friends, they all respect and revere Baba Adeboye specially because he is slightly older than them.
Papa Uma Ukpai invited Baba Adeboye to be the guest speaker in his 80th birthday and Big Daddy Mike Okonkwo has also repeated same.
I have equally seen a video of Papa Ayo prostrating to greet Baba Adeboye.

Conclusively, to have this kind of friendship, the following are important and sacrosanct:

1. Everyone in the group must be genuinely born again and God fearing.
2. Everyone in the group must share the same values.
You cannot last long in a group when you all have different value systems.
3. Everyone in the group must be selfless and sacrificial.
You will not lost long in friendship if you are stingy, tight fi**ed, selfish, self-centered and self absorbed.
4. Everybody in the group must be willing to forgive and resolve issues quickly.
If you cannot easily forgive and you are easily offended, you will not last long in friendship.

Good friends start as friends but end up as brothers.

Who are you friends?
Where are your friends?
How long can you last in friendship?

2 are better than 1.
It is not good for a man to be alone.
Woe unto him that is alone when he falls.

26/08/2025

So, on the bus today, someone brought out a real iPhone 14 Pro Max and was offering to sell it to my friend for 75k last.

He said his mother was in the hospital, and they needed 75k for the surgery, which was why he needed the exact amount.

Since he mentioned 75k, my friend started pricing it for 50k.

To buy was hungrying him.

I collected it and checked.

Everything was working fine. The screen of the phone had the seller's picture as screen saver.

I told my friend that the phone could be stolen.

He said even though it was stolen, he would flash it and change the casing or resell it immediately.

That was how my friend paid, through transfer despite my warnings.

I was just holding the phone and looking at it in shock.

At a point I wished it was me that bought it.

But kai.

50k for iPhone?

No na.

No amount of desperation would make me sell it for 50k if it was mine.

We alighted from the bus and waved at the man who said he was rushing to the hospital to begin the process of the surgery with the money.

My friend and I sat down under a tree to look at the phone he had bought again.

While pressing the phone, it turned off. The screen could not turn on again.

We felt it was battery so we decided to find a place to charge it. Suddenly, the screen turned on again.

We started seeing the screen showing... Searching...

The search icon stayed for like 2 minutes, rotating like planet Earth.

Then it switched to...

"Tracking... Tracking... Tracking..."

I was the one holding the phone at that moment.

I quickly gave my friend his phone to hold first.

He didn't collect it again.

He said I should hold it.

I didn't understand anymore. So I shouted at him.

"Bro collect your phone na. Shey you dey hold am. Just dey hold am dey go na. Make e track finish." I told him.

"Track who?" He asked me.

"The thing e dey track." I replied quickly

"Which thing?" He asked again

"Oga hold your phone jooor." I shouted at him.

"Calm down na. We no know wetin e dey track. Shey I dey here na. Hold am. Maybe e dey track network." He said.

"Hiaaann. Let it continue tracking network in your hand abeg. Hold your phone biko."

I shoved the phone in his pocket and began to walk home.

Suddenly from behind, my friend shouted and ran passed me.

I joined him to run.

While running I was asking him.

"Kelechi, why are you running?"

Kelechi shouted back.

"The phone show location found!"

"Which location?"

"I no know o. Maybe na our location." He answered as he was still running. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

I was still running with Kelechi when I saw that he was running with the phone in his hand.

I turned back silently and started running left.

Left was a bush.

But I didn't mind.

I kept following it and running for my life.

Only for me to turn back and saw Kelechi following me behind with the phone still in his hand.

"Kelechi, as I am running to the left, can't you run to the right?"

I was still talking while running and I woke up from sleep.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Copied.

Just got me laughing and I decided to share. Hope you laugh a little too and relieve yourself some stress.

And I hope it teaches a lesson to people who likes buying cheap things, especially from unknown, untrusted and unreliable sellers.

The LORD bless thee.

SHOULD PASTORS DO MINISTRY WITH EXPECTATION OF MONEY AND MATERIAL BENEFITS FROM MEMBERS?
By Mfon Udoema

So many people have told me that we should not minister with expectations of money or material benefits from the people we minister to.

The above postulation is an attempt to be socially right. Unfortunately, in being socially right, we end up being spiritually and biblically wrong.

Let us critically analyze this issue biblically line upon line and precept upon precept.

1. A SHEPHERD IS ENTITLED TO THE MILK OF HIS FLOCK:.. Who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
1 Corinthians 9:7

A Pastor is a shepherd and the congregation is the flock. As he feeds the flock, he is entitled to the milk(money and material resources of the flock).

Jesus Christ is the Chief Shepherd and the Pastor is the Shepherd.

The Greek word 'Poimen' means 'pastor' and 'shepherd'. Therefore, the work of a pastor is the work of 'poimano' which means shepherding, 'pasturing' or 'pastoring'.
Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2, Jeremiah 3:15

2. THE PLOWMAN SHOULD PLOW IN HOPE:
For it is written in the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
1 Corinthians 9:9-10

Apostle Paul was using the farming reward system Moses established in Israel to establish a reward system in ministry.

In the time of Moses, oxen was used to plow the ground for farming to take place. He therefore established that during harvest, the ox or oxen that was used to plow the farm should be made to eat from the harvest of the farm.

Apostle Paul while teaching about ministry said, God was not very interested about animals but that it was a typology of how pastors should be rewarded after they have laboured in the lives of people.

He called the pastor a 'plowman'. Ministry is likened to plowing and farming and he made it clear that he that plows should plow in hope of a reward or harvest.

In Luke 9:62 Jesus Christ described ministry as plowing.

3. IT IS THE SPIRITUAL RIGHT OF PASTORS TO RECEIVE MATERIAL BENEFITS FROM THEIR MEMBERS:
Our spiritual work among you is like we have planted seeds. In return, you should give to us the food and clothes that we need to live. That is like the harvest that we should receive from our work.
1 Corinthians 9:11 EASY

We have planted seed by teaching you the good things of the Spirit. So we should receive something from you to help us to pay for our living.
1 Corinthians 9:11 WE

When we told the message to you, it was like planting spiritual seed. So we have the right to accept material things as our harvest from you.
1 Corinthians 9:11 CEV

We planted spiritual seed among you, so we should be able to harvest from you some things for this life. Surely that is not asking too much.
1 Corinthians 9:11 ERV

A Pastor that has ministered spiritually to his members is entitled to material benefits from his members. Romans 15:27; Galatians 6:6

4. HE THAT WORKS IN THE TEMPLE SHOULD EAT FROM THE TEMPLE:
Don’t you realize that God told those working in his temple to take for their own needs some of the food brought there as gifts to him? And those who work at the altar of God get a share of the food that is brought by those offering it to the Lord.
1 Corinthians 9:13 TLB

Do you not know that those men who are employed in the services of the temple get their food from the temple? And that those who tend the altar share with the altar [in the offerings brought]?
1 Corinthians 9:13 AMPC

God instituted that priests and pastors should get part of what is brought to the temple for their sustenance. It is from the tithes and offerings of the members that salaries of pastors, administrators and staff will be paid.

Hence, anyone withholding generousity is fighting the work.

5. GOD HAS ORDAINED THAT THOSE THAT PREACH THE GOSPEL SHOULD LIVE OF THE GOSPEL:
Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:14

In the same way, the people who tell God's good news to others should receive what they need to live. They should receive it from the people who hear the good news from them.
1 Corinthians 9:14 EASY

So it shouldn’t be a stretch that the Lord has arranged for preachers of the gospel to make a living by those who have embraced and been liberated by the gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:14 VOICE

God has set out a pattern for pastors to live and meet their needs. It is that, as the preach and teach the gospel and the lives of their hearers are transformed such that they become prosperous, they should in turn take care of the physical and material needs of the pastors even without the pastors asking.

Conclusion:
We can clearly see from God's word that every Pastor is entitled and has right to the material benefits of the people he is ministering to as God blesses them.

There is nothing wrong in a pastor hoping for reward from the people he is ministering to.

It is insensitivity and wickedness to always disturb a pastor with your spiritual issues without you being a blessing to him with you material and financial substance.

In all labour there is profit...
Proverbs 14:23
Ministry is labour because we labour in prayer, word and doctrine.

Think on these things!
