Igboora: The Land of Twins and Culture

Have you ever wondered what makes some towns so unique that the whole world turns to look at them? Join us as we explore Igboora—the home of twins and a rich cultural heritage.

In Oyo State, Nigeria, there is a town called Igboora, often called the twin capital of the world. This is because many twins are born there, more than in most places on earth. Scientists, tourists, and culture lovers visit the town to learn more. But Igboora is not only about twins—it is also a place full of rich people, culture, and tradition.

The People

Most of the people in Igboora are Yoruba, but you can also find people from other tribes like Igbo and Hausa. Some moved there because of marriage, work, or business. The Yoruba people are known for being friendly, living closely as a community, and telling great stories. Family is very important, elders are respected, and festivals bring everyone together, young and old.

Culture and Identity

Igboora’s culture comes mainly from Yoruba tradition. People wear clothes like agbada and iro, and music with talking drums and dancing are part of every celebration. The town also has the World Twins Festival, hosted every year, where twins dress in matching clothes, dance, and celebrate. This festival shows the world how special Igboora is.

Food is also part of the culture. Popular meals include amala with ewedu soup and iyan (pounded yam). Visitors often say that in Igboora, you don’t only see or hear culture—you also taste it.

More Than Twins

Even though twins make Igboora famous, the town is more than that. It is a place of unity, pride, and strong traditions that continue even today. For the people of Igboora, culture is not just the past—it is their way of life every day.

📝 Igboora shows us that culture is not only where we come from, but also how we live, celebrate, and pass it on to the next generation. When next you think of unique cultures in Nigeria, remember Igboora—and maybe plan a visit to experience it yourself!

Empowering Women, Powering the Economy: Nigeria Launches Expertise Fund for Digital Growth.

In a landmark stride toward inclusive economic growth, Nigeria has joined forces with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) to launch the Women Expertise Fund for the Digital Economy. With the active support of Nigeria’s First Lady, the initiative is designed to transform the lives of women entrepreneurs by equipping them with financial resources and technical support to thrive in a changing economy.

The excitement surrounding the launch was palpable. More than 67,000 Nigerian women applied to benefit from the scheme. After a rigorous selection process, 146 entrepreneurs emerged as the first beneficiaries—each representing the resilience and ambition of Nigerian women.

Sixteen of these women qualified for what has been described as the Booster Track. These are women who already own businesses but require greater capacity to expand. Over the next 18 months, they will receive tailored technical and business support from the WTO, ITC, and Nigeria’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, enabling them to scale their enterprises, employ more people, and inject new life into the economy.

Another 100 women were awarded direct grants of $5,000 each, coupled with 12 months of structured mentorship and business development assistance. For many of them, this support is not only a lifeline but also a launchpad—helping to turn small ideas into thriving ventures capable of transforming families and communities.

Nigeria earned its place in this global initiative after competing with several countries. Through the combined effort of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, the country was selected as one of only four worldwide to participate in this pioneering program.
Following the launch, WTO representatives met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to brief him on the progress. They applauded the administration’s efforts at stabilising the economy, emphasising that such reforms are a prerequisite for growth. “You cannot truly improve an economy unless it is stable. The President and his team deserve credit for steering the nation toward stability,” they observed.

Yet, the message was also clear: the next phase must focus on expanding opportunities and cushioning the impact of reforms. “Nigeria must now prioritise growth and social safety nets, ensuring that those who feel the pinch of reforms have the support they need to weather challenges and contribute to long-term prosperity.”

For the women selected, however, the future already looks brighter. This fund is not just about grants or technical assistance—it is about restoring confidence, fueling innovation, and positioning Nigerian women as drivers of the digital economy. In their stories lies the promise of new jobs, stronger households, and a more inclusive economy.
The launch of the Women Expertise Fund is a reminder that empowering women is not only a matter of fairness it is also a strategy for national growth. When women thrive, nations prosper.
