In the spirit of Mother’s Day… I witnessed something today that reminded me why African mothers deserve their own Netflix documentary 😂😂
So I went to an optical office for an eye service, and while waiting, one typical African mother walked in to price a glasses casing.
She asked:
“How much?”
Seller:
“₦3,500.”
Mama replied immediately:
“₦1,000 nko?” 😭😭
I almost choked.
To my greatest surprise, the seller said:
“Oya bring ₦1,000.”
At this point, I thought negotiation had ended.
NO.
Mama looked at him again and said:
“₦800 nko?”
😂😂😂😂
The seller got angry instantly and said:
“I’m no longer selling again!”
Mama too got angry and left the shop.
And me?
I laughed in fluent African Mother Language 🤣
Honestly, African mothers have special pricing powers.
Things I’ve noticed about African mothers and bargaining:
• They believe every price has a “real price” hidden somewhere 😂
• They can price a ₦50,000 item to ₦7,500 with full confidence
• They walk away like they don’t need the item — even when they came specifically for it 😭
• Their greatest weapon is silence + turning to leave
• Sometimes… they’ll insult the product first before pricing it 😂
But let’s be honest…
Some sellers actually inflate prices because they EXPECT Nigerian mothers to price 😅
So now the real question is:
Was Mama wrong for reducing ₦1,000 to ₦800 after the seller already agreed…
Or was the seller being too emotional? 👀
