Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has dismissed a viral report claiming that her son, singer Mayorkun, lost his Lagos home to a fire outbreak.

The report alleged that the singer’s residence went up in flames on Saturday night following an explosion, with claims that he and his family narrowly escaped the incident.

Reacting on Sunday through her Instagram page, Toyin Adewale challenged the report and questioned how such information was published without proper checks.

The naira has come under renewed pressure in the foreign exchange market, depreciating to ₦1,385 per United States dollar as escalating conflict in the Middle East continues to rattle global financial systems.

The local currency, which had recently stabilised around ₦1,360/$, has weakened by about 0.3 per cent over the past two weeks, reflecting growing external shocks and domestic vulnerabilities.

“As these tensions escalate, mounting fears of inflationary shocks could force central banks to rethink their 2026 playbooks,” The PUNCH quoted a Senior Market Analyst for Africa, Matthew Anthony, as saying.

He added, “Ultimately, this has injected oil prices with monstrous levels of volatility… Iran’s attacks on energy infrastructure around the Middle East have intensified fears around supply shocks.”

Efforts to stabilise the oil market have so far yielded limited results.

The International Energy Agency announced its largest-ever oil release of 400 million barrels in a bid to ease supply pressures, while the United States issued a temporary waiver for continued purchases of Russian oil.

The ripple effects of the crisis are also evident in global monetary policy decisions.

On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia raised interest rates for the second consecutive meeting, signalling tightening financial conditions.

Attention is now focused on key central banks, including the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, and Bank of England, amid shifting expectations around interest rate cuts.

The interplay between currency stability, inflation control, and global oil dynamics is expected to shape economic decisions, as authorities navigate what analysts describe as a period of “high-stakes” uncertainty.

The son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of his father’s administration, stating that the country is being steered in a new direction.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Seyi expressed confidence in the President’s leadership and ongoing reforms.

According to him, the current administration is charting a path unprecedented in the nation’s history.

“We’re asking you all to have faith in Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu. He is already driving this country in a direction this country has never seen,” he said.

Seyi also revealed that he continues to pray for his father’s success in office and a possible second term, expressing optimism about the long-term impact of current policies.

“I continue to pray for his life, continue to pray for his second term,” he added.

Defending the administration’s reforms amid prevailing economic challenges, he noted that the President had chosen to confront structural issues rather than ignore them.

“This is a man who has come in and has seen cracks, instead of just trying to pass by and waiting for the cracks to continue to spread, and just think, let’s leave it for the next man, he’s actually trying to fix it,” he said.

Seyi emphasised that the reforms, though difficult, are aimed at creating a stronger foundation for future generations.

“So that way, when it’s our own time, we don’t have to fix a crack. We’ll live in a house that is well built, with a great foundation, with a great legacy, for our own children to also benefit,” he said.

Nigerian skit maker and streamer, Shank Comics, has sparked a debate after claiming that comedians are richer than music artists.

During a recent livestream, he argued that a lot of people assume that musicians are richer than comedians because they flaunt their wealth unlike most of their counterparts in the comedy industry.

He claimed that Nigerian comedians Bovi and Basketmouth are richer than Afrobeats stars Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy and other musicians, but they prefer to invest than buy exotic cars like the musicians.

“I think there is more money in comedy than music. Bovi and Basketmouth are far richer than Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and other musicians, but they prefer to invest rather than buy cars.

“Comedians are very conscious of the future, so they invest more than they spend, and they don’t spend lavishly on luxuries.

“A lot of comedians can afford the luxurious automobiles Nigerian musicians are buying,” he said.

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has stirred reactions after sharing a live video where he asked the Federal Government to take action against pastors who claim to perform miracles.

He said there should be a law that stops people from carrying out or claiming miracles without proof.

According to him, anyone who says they can perform such acts should face punishment, except they can show clear evidence under proper medical conditions.

He explained that any pastor making such claims should be tested at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where the miracle can be properly checked.

He added that it should not be based on stories or claims made in churches or online, but something that can be confirmed in a hospital setting.

The singer went further to say that the person making the claim should be able to repeat the act several times in front of medical experts.

He gave an example that if someone claims to restore sight, it should involve a case that can be clearly verified by doctors, not something that cannot be proven.

He also said that anyone who fails to show such proof after making the claim should be held responsible.

In his view, strict punishment should be introduced to stop what he believes are false claims and to protect the public from being misled.

He said: “A law should be made to ensure that no one is allowed to perform miracles, and anyone caught claiming to perform a miracle should be sent to jail. The only exception would be if the miracle can be proven at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“They should perform the miracle for ten people at LUTH. I do not want to hear about fake miracles, because your God can do all things. I am not talking about miracles that claim to heal someone who has been blind their entire life. In this case I’m talking about someone with no eyeballs at all and if the miracle is real, the person should gain full vision. If you cannot perform the miracle, you should be held accountable.

“If a person is unable to perform the miracle, they should be sentenced to fifty years in prison.”

The Benin Traditional Council has taken disciplinary action against a palace chief, a queen, and other individuals after social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, known as Peller, entered the Oba of Benin’s palace without permission.

The council described the visit as a breach of palace protocol and a disruption of the palace’s order.

The council explained that Adelaja and his team accessed the palace without following the required procedures, causing embarrassment and unrest within the palace grounds.

A preliminary investigation led to the suspension of a palace chief involved, while a staff member named Mr. Omuemu has been arrested and charged with aiding the unauthorized entry.

The queen implicated is currently under review and may face removal.

The council has asked Adelaja to appear for questioning and submit a written apology to the palace. Failure to comply could lead to legal consequences.

The council also introduced new rules for palace access, including mandatory written applications, prior approval, prohibition of loitering, and the issuance of official access passes.

Any future unauthorized entry into the palace will be treated as a violation of traditional law, with offenders subject to arrest and prosecution.

The council stressed the need to protect the cultural and spiritual integrity of the Benin Palace.

Peller is currently on a tour across several states in Nigeria.

The artist, who is signed to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of Mavin Records, took to his X account to express frustration with the label and its management.

In one of the posts, Crayon appeared to take a swipe at the label’s founder, Don Jazzy, writing, “Don Jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333.”
The singer also directed criticism at Tega Oghenejobo, the Chief Operating Officer of Mavin Records, referring to him as a “highest criminal.”

Crayon joined Blowtime Entertainment, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in May 2019 and has released several songs under the label since signing the deal.

Nollywood actress and content creator, Kiekie, has explained why she does not share photos or videos of her husband on social media.

The mother of one said her decision is deliberate and tied to how she manages her online presence.

The actress made the clarification during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, on his show, where she addressed questions about her private life and marriage.

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has reacted to criticism that followed her Mother’s Day message to her former husband, Olakunle Churchill.

The evangelist had earlier taken to her Instagram story on Sunday to appreciate Churchill for making her a mother.

She described motherhood as one of the most beautiful parts of her life and expressed gratitude to him for the role he played in it.

After the message circulated online, some social media users accused her of praising her ex-husband too much.

Responding to the reactions, Dikeh said people criticizing her did not understand the reason behind her gratitude.

She explained that Churchill is the only man who has given her a child and that alone is enough reason for her to remain thankful.

According to her, many people would not understand the peace and joy that comes from choosing a calm relationship after a difficult past.

Dikeh also spoke about the importance of maintaining a peaceful co-parenting relationship for the sake of their child.

She wrote: “Doing to much? For the only man who has put a child in me? The world is truly a sick place, and I’m gratefull don’t let your opinions direct me.

“When e reach your turn don’t thank them. How wld you understand the meaning of joy/peace that makes no sense, how wid you understand healthy Co-parenting, if I don’t show you all.”

The actress and Churchill were once married but their union ended in 2017 after a public disagreement that attracted attention across the country.

For years, both parties traded accusations before the tension between them later reduced.

Recently, Dikeh disclosed that she and Churchill had settled their differences and decided to move forward peacefully.

Their renewed understanding appears to have created room for better communication between them as they raise their child.

Churchill has since moved on with his life and in 2021 introduced Rosy Meurer as his wife.

The couple welcomed their first child in March 2021 and later had a second child in October 2022.

In 2023, Churchill also dismissed rumours that his marriage to Meurer was facing challenges, stating that their relationship remained stable.
