Sabon Shugaban Hukumar INEC: Majalisar Ƙoli ta Ƙasa ta Amince da Farfesa Joash Amupitan

Majalisar Ƙoli ta Ƙasa ta amince da nadin Farfesa Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) daga jihar Kogi, dake yankin Arewacin Tsakiya, a matsayin sabon shugaban Hukumar Zaɓe mai zaman kanta ta Ƙasa (INEC).

Shugaban Ƙasa Bola Ahmed Tinubu ne ya gabatar da sunansa domin maye gurbin Farfesa Mahmood Yakubu, wanda ya kammala wa’adinsa a watan Oktoba 2025 bayan shafe shekaru 10 a kujerar shugabancin hukumar. Shugaba Tinubu ya ce Amupitan shi ne ɗan jihar Kogi na farko da aka gabatar don wannan mukami, kuma mutum ne da aka sheda baya tsangwama irin ta siyasa.

Mambobin majalisar sun amince da wannan nadin ba tare da wani sabani ba, inda gwamnan jihar Kogi, Ahmed Usman Ododo, ya bayyana shi a matsayin mutum mai gaskiya da riƙon amana. Bayan wannan mataki, za a tura sunansa gaban Majalisar Dattawa domin tantancewa da amincewa, kamar yadda kundin tsarin mulki ya tanada.

Farfesa Amupitan, mai shekaru 58 daga Ayetoro Gbede, karamar hukumar Ijumu a jihar Kogi, malami ne a fannin shari’a a Jami’ar Jos, inda yake rike da mukamin Mataimakin Shugaban Jami’a (Harkokin Gudanarwa). Ya kware a fannoni da s**a haɗa da Company Law, Law of Evidence, Corporate Governance da Privatisation Law. Ya zama Lauya Babban (SAN) a shekarar 2014.

Ya fara karatunsa a Kwara Polytechnic tsakanin 1982 da 1984 kafin ya ci gaba a Jami’ar Jos daga 1984 zuwa 1987. Ya kammala karatun sa na Shari’a a matakin farko a 1988, sannan ya kammala digirin LLM a 1993 da kuma PhD a 2007 a UNIJOS. Har ila yau, ya yi aikin yi wa ƙasa hidima a gidan jaridar jihar Bauchi tsakanin 1988 da 1989.

Baya ga karantarwa, Amupitan ya riƙe manyan mukamai a harkar gudanarwa da harkokin ilimi, ciki har da Shugaban Kwamitin Shugabannin Sassa da Daraktoci (2012-2014), Dekan na Faculty of Law (2008-2014), da Shugaban Sashen Public Law (2006-2008). A halin yanzu, shi ne Shugaban Majalisar Gudanarwa na Jami’ar Joseph Ayo Babalola da ke Osun.

Also today, I received the newly appointed Chairman of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH, Chief Augustine Chukwuma Umahi, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof. Abdurrahman Abba Shehe, in my office at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Our discussion during the visit centred on the development of the hospital and Nigeria's health sector, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on health.

Resumption From Annual Recess

Today, we resumed the plenary sitting of the Senate after our annual recess.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, in his welcome address, congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians on the 65th Anniversary of the country's independence on October 1st and on the giant economic strides of the administration.

During the plenary, six bills scaled the introductory or first reading stage, while the bill for an Act to amend the Nigerian Passport (Miscellaneous provisions) Act scaled second reading. It was subsequently referred to the relevant Senate committees for further legislative input.

One concurrence Bill from the House of Representatives - the Federal Medical Centres (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was also considered and passed for the third and final reading stage.

Congratulations to the 2022/2023 Batch B Police Recruits

I congratulate the 2022/2023 Batch B police recruits who passed out from the Police College, Kaduna, today, after months of rigorous training that prepared them for the complex realities of policing in the 21st century.

I was represented at the historic college by my Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullah.

As we know, the Police College, Kaduna, is one of the premier police training institutions in our country, established in 1949.

According to the College's Commandant, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, 760 general duty constables passed out during today's POP. They are from Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina states.

I'm optimistic that, with the modern policing techniques and high-level discipline imparted to the cops during the training, they will make a significant contribution to policing our country.

The National Assembly will continue to provide the necessary support to the Nigeria Police Force, all security agencies, and paramilitary organisations to tackle the security challenges facing our country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on security.

On my behalf, Professor Abdullah addressed the constables from Kano State. Each of them was given N50,000 as transport fare.

Barau FC Leadership Holds First-Ever Meeting

The leadership of Barau Football Club has held a closed-door meeting aimed at strengthening teamwork and fostering unity for a better future.

The meeting was chaired by the Club President, Shawal Barau Jibrin, alongside the Vice President, Alhaji Kabiru Baita, the Club Chairman, Ibrahim Sh*tu Chanji, and the General Manager, Dominic Lorfa.

The purpose of the meeting was to reinforce collaboration among the club’s leadership to ensure continued progress and success for Barau FC in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

Barau FC has now intensified preparations ahead of their NPFL Matchday 8 fixture against Plateau United, scheduled for Sunday at the New Jos Stadium.
