Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent demolition of the ASPAMDA Market at the Lagos Trade Fair complex.

Obi expressed concern that the demolition happened despite traders having all necessary approvals for their plazas. He stressed that many of them invested heavily, often through loans, and have now lost their sources of livelihood.

He visited the scene alongside Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Victor Umeh, commending the traders for showing restraint and applauding lawmakers who promised to investigate the incident.

💰 Independence Day Update: Tinubu Says FG Has Disbursed N330 Billion To 8 Million Households

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that his administration has disbursed N330 billion to about eight million Nigerian households under the Social Investment Programme.

He made this known during his 65th Independence Anniversary broadcast, stating that the funds were targeted at poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

According to the President, many of the beneficiaries have received one or two out of the three planned tranches of N25,000 each.

Tinubu further noted that despite the many challenges Nigeria has faced in its 65 years of independence, the country has not only survived but has also recorded significant economic growth and resilience.

Kano Politics: Kwankwasiyya Leader Defects to APC with Supporters

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala LGA of Kano State, Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing dissatisfaction with the movement and its founder, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Danfulani, who announced his defection on Tuesday at the APC state headquarters, also criticized the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano, accusing the party of implementing what he described as “anti-people’s policies.”

He was received by the APC Zonal Chairman for Kano Central, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, who represented the state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas. Other notable figures present included Rabiu Suleiman Bichi (MD, Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority), Alhaji Munir Haruna (APC chairman, Dala LGA), and the Gobirawa Ward chairman of the party.

Ungoggo welcomed Danfulani and his supporters, stating that the APC remains open to defectors from other political parties as long as they respect its constitution and principles.

Danfulani, accompanied by a number of followers, declared that they had all abandoned the NNPP to join the APC, signaling yet another shift in Kano’s vibrant political scene.

Rivers: “We’ll Fight Tirelessly” — ADC Condemns Mass Sacking of Emohua LGA Workers

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the recent dismissal of over 300 local government workers in Emohua by council chairman Hon. Chidi Lloyd, promising to pursue justice for the affected staff.

According to reports, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) directed members across Rivers’ 23 LGAs to begin a seven-day warning strike after Lloyd sacked the workers following his re-election. Many of those employees had been dismissed during his previous tenure and were later reinstated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the state’s political crisis — only to be removed again after the recent polls. The strike was temporarily suspended after the governor intervened.

Speaking after a meeting with senior political adviser Dr. Fortune Alfred, ADC chairman Chief Sampson Leader described the dismissals as “heartless” and said the action exposed a disregard for the welfare of Rivers citizens amid a difficult economic climate. He praised Governor Fubara’s prompt intervention but warned that further abuses of power would be resisted.

The ADC vowed to "fight tirelessly for justice and liberation" and said it will continue to push for redress for the sacked workers, pledging to hold perpetrators accountable through lawful and democratic channels ahead of 2027.

🚨 Hot Debate: Can Jonathan Legally Run in 2027? ⚖️🇳🇬

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Okutepa, has sparked serious conversation after declaring that it would be unconstitutional for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Okutepa explained that Jonathan has already spent 6 years in office — 2 years completing Yar’Adua’s tenure (2010–2011) and 4 years of his own (2011–2015).

👉 If Jonathan runs and wins in 2027, that would make it 10 years in power, which Okutepa insists is against the 1999 Constitution’s limit of 8 years maximum.

He backed his argument with:
✅ The Supreme Court ruling in Marwa vs Nyarko (no one can exceed two terms of four years each).
✅ The 2018 Fourth Alteration Act (anyone sworn in to complete another’s tenure can only run for one more term).

Okutepa concluded: “Jonathan’s eligibility was already used up after his single full term. Any attempt to return would go against the Constitution.”
