Series of Disturbing Incidents Raise Alarm Over Safety and Child Protection in Nigeria
A series of tragic and disturbing incidents across Nigeria have sparked widespread concern over the safety of women and children and the enforcement of human rights and child protection laws.
In Anambra State, Harira Jibril, a pregnant woman, was brutally killed alongside her four children, in a horrific attack that has shocked the nation and drawn strong condemnation from civil society groups and concerned citizens. The tragic incident has renewed calls for improved security and the protection of vulnerable persons.
In a separate case, an individual identified as Yellow was arraigned in court for allegedly marrying a minor, Esse, an act that contravenes Nigeria’s Child Rights Act and international conventions on the protection of children. The case is currently undergoing legal proceedings.
Furthermore, a minor girl, Walida, was reportedly kidnapped and held in captivity for two years, during which she was sexually abused and impregnated. The matter is under investigation, with stakeholders urging authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial probe to establish the facts and deliver justice.
