*Gov. Eno’s Hands-On Projects Tour: Youth, Women and Local Content Take the Spotlight*

Governance in Akwa Ibom State is no longer defined by files, memos, and boardroom briefings. Under Governor Umo Eno, it is about action, presence, participation, and results. This was clearly demonstrated during his recent two-day Projects Oversight Tour, an exercise that has reshaped the way project monitoring is done in the State and left a trail of excitement among youth, women, communities, and contractors.

Until now, project delivery meetings were held within the banquet hall of Government House. Ministries, delivery advisors, and consultants gave updates and reports. Governor Eno chose a new path. He moved the meetings into the field, walking through project sites, engaging contractors and listening to community voices. In two days, he and his team inspected twenty-four projects cutting across Healthcare, Transportation, Infrastructure, Security, and Tourism amongst others .

At every site, the scenes spoke louder than words could. The clang of hammers, the hum of machines, the murmur of traders, and the laughter of youths blended into a chorus of progress. Tons of artisans, workers, and vendors filled the project areas, a vivid reminder that each intervention is more than bricks and mortar, it is a marketplace of hope, a stage where livelihoods are earned and futures are built. From welders shaping steel to women selling food by the roadside, every hand found purpose in the rhythm of construction.

What stood out was not just the number of projects, but the human stories. At the Agricultural Equipment Leasing Facility , the Governor met the female Managing Director, steering a vital initiative with uncommon grace and professionalism. Designed to give farmers access to modern equipment, the project is a seedbed for food sufficiency. Governor Eno was visibly moved, noting that women are truly part of the State’s developmental trajectory.

On the Nsit Atai–Okobo road, another verse of empowerment unfolded. Beyond adding a 5 Kilometers spur to Odot at off the stretch, Female project managers, clad in steel helmets and reflective jackets, commanded respect on a site once reserved for men. Their firm voices rose above the din of engines, charting the path of progress with authority. To onlookers, especially young girls and boys—it was a living poem: proof that ambition knows no gender, and that the future belongs to those bold enough to claim it.

Threaded through every stop was the Governor’s emphasis on local content. He reminded contractors and citizens alike that development must carry local fingerprints. “We cannot continue to depend on outsiders when we have competent hands here at home,” he said, his words echoing like a pledge. Projects, he insisted, must not only leave behind structures but also weave prosperity into the fabric of local communities.

And then came his clarion call to the youth. With over four hundred projects open on the State’s procurement portal, he urged young people to rise, to register, to compete, and to seize the opportunities waiting for them. His message was simple yet stirring: the future of Akwa Ibom is not a promise, it is a responsibility, and it belongs to its youth.

As the tour drew to a close, what lingered was not just the sight of rising buildings, stretching roads, or new agricultural hubs. It was the sense that a deeper architecture was at work the architecture of inclusion. Women breaking barriers. Youth stepping into the arena. Communities asked to guard what is built in their name.

The final stop of the tour was no less symbolic. Under the glow of night, the Governor led his team through the monumental ARISE Resort, a shining jewel of tourism and hospitality rising from the shackles of over 70 hectares of reclaimed gullies, Its grandeur under the stars spoke of possibility, of a State confident in its future and proud of its promise.

And as the night breeze swept across the resort’s vast expanse, the day’s journey seemed to find its own poetry: a government that listens, a leader who walks with his people, and a future being built brick by brick, dream by dream, heartbeat by heartbeat.

‎...You Have Keyed Into the ARISE Agenda – ANPA Boss

‎The Amalgamated Newspaper Publishers Association (ANPA), Akwa Ibom State, has thrown its weight behind the Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Hon. (Mrs.) Ime Effiong Charles, for her people-centric governance in the ancient local government. The association described her achievements as a true reflection of, and alignment with, the ARISE Agenda of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD.

‎ANPA, the newspaper publishing bloc in the state, made this assertion during its ongoing local government facility tour, which berthed in Abak on Tuesday.

‎Setting the tone, Patrick Albert, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and member of the delegation, noted that effective communication creates visibility, while its absence renders even the most remarkable achievements unknown. He emphasized the importance of the press in bridging this gap, hence the association’s resolve to embark on this all-important information tour across local government areas in the state.

‎In her response, an elated Hon. Ime Effiong Charles, flanked by her Council Secretary, Hon. (Deacon) Gift Umoh, thanked the publishers for beginning their tour in Abak, the first local government alphabetically describing it as a morale booster to her administration’s performance.

‎She reeled out some of her achievements in less than one year in office, which include:

‎°Building and commissioning of a fully equipped Health Centre at Ikot Antuk, Midim.

‎°Building and commissioning of a modern toilet facility at Abak Main Market.

‎°Modern renovation of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, NULGE, and Agric Department offices.

‎°Grading of abandoned rural roads across the 12 wards of the LGA.

‎°Provision of educational materials to primary school pupils.

‎°Timely waste evacuation from the main market and other strategic locations.

‎°Modern furnishing of official offices for the 12 councillors.

‎°Provision of a modern borehole facility at Abak Main Market.

‎°Distribution of food items and cash to the less privileged to mark the Governor’s birthday.

‎°Engagement and payment of monthly stipends to over 85 women responsible for keeping urban roads clean.

‎°Collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for peace and security.

‎°Furnishing of the Paramount Ruler’s office and those of the 12 Supervisory Councillors.

‎°Monthly stipends to over 500 youths to cushion unemployment.

‎°Ongoing construction of the ultra-modern 8th Abak Legislative Chamber.

‎°Ongoing renovation of a modern classroom block at Eka Midim Secondary School, Midim Clan.

‎°Ongoing renovation of Abak Main Market with standard offices.

‎°Intervention in drainage and erosion control at Abak Main Market Square.

‎°Constant financial assistance to indigent residents.

‎In his earlier remarks, ANPA President, Pastor Osuini-Abasi Alfred, expressed satisfaction with the strides recorded so far by the Abak Council Boss, describing them as being in line with the ARISE spirit, while calling for sustained progress.

‎Giving a vote of thanks, ANPA Board of Trustees Chairman and Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Media, Comrade Ernest Akpan, applauded Hon. Ime Charles for “giving back to the people,” charging her not to relent but to do even more.

‎“For living in Abak, you have done well. For leaving a place in your payroll for the vulnerable, you have made the ARISE Agenda simple and easier,” he concluded.

‎The high point of the facility tour was an on-the-spot assessment of the projects embarked upon by the Abak Council Boss. The publishers expressed satisfaction and urged for more developmental initiatives.

‎In a post-event reaction, the Council Chairman’s Press Secretary, Comrade Akaninyene Esang who also publishes The Bell newspaper described the visit as a “searchlight” that affirmed his boss’s sterling qualities and service to humanity.

‎ He assured the publishers that the Chairman would continue to implement people-focused initiatives worthy of publicity.

VIDEO: D.I.G. Ekpoudom Defies Governor Umo Eno, Threatens to Unleash Violence Over Etim Ekpo Political Leadership

…Bars Former Chairman from Revalidating Membership

Tensions flared in Ward 5 of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area today as D.I.G. Udom Udo Ekpoudom (Rtd) defied the directive of Pastor Umo Eno who doubles as the leader of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State.

In a viral video now circulating online, the former police chief threatened to “unleash violence” against anyone who opposes his political leadership of Etim Ekpo APC during the membership revalidation exercise in the area.

According to a source who preferred anonymity, “contrary to the instructions of Governor Umo Eno who had suspended the issue of political leadership and asked Council Chairman to hold forth pending further actions, DIG Ekpoudom claimed he will resort to violence as a retired police officer before barring Rt. Hon. Uduot Jack, from revalidating his membership for no reason.

Our reporter gathered that “the youths of the area threatened showdown over the development, questioning why an engagement meant to take place at the ward Centre was relocated to a private residence. They strongly condemned his actions and vowed to resist henceforth”.

Efforts to reach DIG Ekpoudom for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
