Kwara 2027: Senator Ashiru Dismisses 'Offa lo kan' Poster, Say pan-Kwaran candidate Will Emerge Next Governor

Our attention has been drawn to a political poster/flier currently circulating on social media bearing the slogan “Offa lo kàn”, purportedly in support of Senator Lola Ashiru for the 2027 Governorship race in Kwara State. The said material is being shared by faceless and unauthorised groups, and does not represent the views, approval, or consent of Senator Ashiru or any officially recognised support group.

We strongly condemn the message and intent behind the poster. While Senator Ashiru remains a respected figure in Kwara politics, we believe the next Governor of Kwara State must emerge as a truly pan-Kwaran candidate, with broad-based appeal across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Kwara is a multi-ethnic and secular state, and as such, leadership must reflect inclusivity, fairness, and the collective will of the people—not sectional sentiments or narrow agendas.

We urge the general public to disregard the flier and remain committed to the ideals of unity, equity, and shared progress that bind us together as Kwarans.

Present Your Scorecards, Kwara South Youth Congress Tells Kwara South Lawmakers

The Kwara South Youth Congress (KSYC), a prominent youth organization in the Kwara South region, has issued a press statement calling on the elected lawmakers from Kwara South to present their records of achievements over the last two years. This request comes in the wake of similar initiatives taken by lawmakers from Kwara Central and Kwara North, who have publicly shared their accomplishments during the same period.

In a detailed press release by Adejare Bashir, the publicity secretary of KSYC, the organization expressed growing concern about the performance of lawmakers from Kwara South. The statement emphasized, "With a sober reflection, we urge our elected representatives in Kwara South, encompassing both the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly, to transparently present their scorecards for the past two years. We have observed that while lawmakers from other regions have made efforts to inform their constituents, our representatives in Kwara South seem to be silent on their legislative contributions."

Bashir specifically mentioned the elected officials, including Senator Oyelola Isa Ashiru (Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Kwara South), Hon. Tunji Raheem Olawuyi (Member Federal House of Rep, Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero/ Irepodun federal constituency), Hon Tijani Ismail (Ifelodun, Offa, Oyun Fed constituency), Hon. Ojo Olayiwola ( Deputy Speaker KWHA, member representing Oke Ogun State Constituency), Hon. Abolaji Ganiyu Gabriel (Ekiti State Constituency), Hon. Ganiyu Afolabi Salahu (Omupo State Constituency, Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq ( Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency), Hon. Omotosho Olakunle Rasaq (Isin State Constituency), Hon. Yusuf Gbenga Abdulwaheed (Eesa/Shawo Constituency), Hon. Olushola Odetundun (Irepodun Constituency), Hon. Yusuf Toye Musa (Odo Ogun Constituency), Hon. Bamigboye Joseph Olajure (Oke-Ero Constituency) and Hon. Ogunniyi Joseph Oluwaseun (Ojomu/Balogun Constituency) . Bashir urged these representatives to provide an update on the successes and initiatives they have undertaken since taking office, pointing out that they were elected by the people and owe them accountability.

Bashir highlighted the pressing concerns faced by the people of Kwara South, noting that the region has seen a worrying rise in criminal activities such as kidnapping. He remarked, "It is disheartening to acknowledge that not a single bill has been successfully sponsored by our National Assembly representatives in the last two years. Instead of focusing on impactful legislation, they appear to have diverted their attention towards bills that are unlikely to progress or reach the President's desk. In many instances, some lawmakers have chosen to remain silent in light of the escalating security threats in Kwara South."

Turning to their counterparts in the State House of Assembly, Bashir criticized them for seemingly acting as a "puppet" to the state's executive arms of government. He emphasized that it is particularly troubling that, despite the challenges faced by constituents, the Governor has managed to pass more legislative measures than the representatives themselves. "This situation is a troubling omen for the people of Kwara South," Bashir concluded. "We deserve better from those we have put in office. It is time for our lawmakers to step up and demonstrate their commitment to the communities they were elected to serve."
