Police Can Break Doors To Arrest Uncooperative Suspects – Force Deputy PRO
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/police-can-break-doors-to-arrest-uncooperative-suspects-force-deputy-pro/
The Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Victor Isuku, has said police officers are empowered by law to break down doors, enter through ceilings, or scale fences to arrest uncooperative suspects.

Isuku clarified this during an interactive session with the public at the premiere of the movie Greatest Oath (The Rescue), produced by Ocean Portal in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, on Sunday in Benin, Edo State.

He warned that obstructing police officers during an arrest could result in the arrest of the individual who interferes.

“Don’t hinder the police from arresting a suspect, otherwise, you will also be arrested,” he said.

On phone searches, the Deputy PRO explained that officers are only permitted to check mobile devices when there is reasonable suspicion of cybercrime.

“The police will not just stop you on the road and begin to search your phone. It is unethical, and the Inspector-General frowns at such practices,” he said.

He also reminded the public that bail is free, urging the public to read the content in a bail form before appending their signature, noting that the Inspector General frowns at unethical practices by his officers.

He added, “There are situations where a policeman can search your phone. If you are suspected of having committed a cybercrime, your phone will be checked. The police will not just stop you on the road and begin to search you, it is unethical. The IG frowns at such unethical practice.

“The Police can break down the door of an uncooperative suspect, enter his apartment through the roof, or get into his premises by scaling the fence. Don’t hinder the police from arresting a suspect, as you will also be arrested.

He said that funding was a major problem affecting all institutions in the country, noting that the public can help provide basic logistics equipment to the police, inside of giving them money under any guise.

Ocean Portal boss, Dickson Oviase, said that the production was inspired by the EndSARS protest which led to the destruction of life and properties in many states of the federation.

He said, despite the hostilities, the police still carried out their duties, disclaiming the insinuation that they were on strike during the protest.

He added, “The movie is inspired and birthed from the outcry of the saga. The Police could not function in many states. The consciousness of the necessity of the presence of the Nigerian Police pervaded everywhere.

“For once, the vacuum of the absence of Police in our society stared us in the Face. Truth be told, there’s a need to show love to the Police and Vice-Versa as it will be chaotic if the police embark on an indefinite strike. Let’s come together and enhance community policing. God bless Nigeria.”

The Spokesman of Zone Five, Tijani Momoh, said that the collaboration between Ocean Portal and the Nigeria Police Force would create awareness on the dedication of the police towards ensuring a safer Nigeria.

He said the force also provided logistics and equipment for the production crew of the movie.

Petrol Distributors Dissociate From NUPENG Strike
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/petrol-distributors-dissociate-from-nupeng-strike/
The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products has dissociated itself from the intended strike by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and its cohorts.

The National President of ADITOP, Alhaji Lawan Dan-Zaki, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja.

NAN reports that NUPENG had announced that its members would commence a nationwide strike from Monday and warned of an imminent nationwide fuel scarcity.

The strike is in protest against what it described as anti-labour practices linked to the deployment of newly imported compressed natural gas-powered trucks by the Dangote Refinery for direct distribution of petroleum products.

Dangote’s programme on direct distribution of petroleum products to end users is aimed at eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability, and supporting Nigeria’s economic development.

Dan-Zaki, while stating that the purported strike was uncalled for, added that ADITOP was in support of Dangote’s new petroleum products distribution scheme.

He said that Dangote’s transformational efforts would not only sanitise the industry but would further stabilise both supply and distribution, while providing jobs and new skills to millions of unemployed Nigerians.

“We, members of ADITOP, hereby inform the general public and the federal government that we dissociate ourselves from any intended strike or disruption by NUPENG and its cohorts.

“We intend to continue moving petroleum products across the country without fear of molestation.

ADITOP is in support of any petroleum products distribution scheme aimed at distributing products to the end users seamlessly and promoting economic development,’’ he said.

FG Reschedules Meeting With NUPENG
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/fg-reschedules-meeting-with-nupeng/
Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, on Monday moved up a tripartite conciliation meeting aimed at resolving a bitter dispute between the Dangote Group and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.

The meeting was originally scheduled for 3 p.m. but was brought forward to 10 a.m.

By 10 a.m., however, NUPENG leaders and other stakeholders were still in Lagos trying to board flights to Abuja.

An official of the Ministry told Vanguard that the meeting could not commence until their arrival.

While it is unknown why the time for the meeting was changed, PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the meeting was aimed at stopping the nationwide industrial strike before it inflicted significant damage on the fragile economy.

NUPENG has accused Dangote and associates of pursuing “crude and dangerous anti-union practices, a monopolistic agenda, and indecent industrial relations strategies,” alleging the refinery pays some of the lowest wages in the sector and bars drivers for imported CNG trucks from joining industry unions.

The union says those recruitment conditions violate Section 40 of the Constitution, the Labour Act and International Labour Organisation conventions on freedom of association.

Ebonyi PDP, LP, APGA, Others Rally In Support Of ADC
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/ebonyi-pdp-lp-apga-others-rally-in-support-of-adc/

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, opposition leaders in Ebonyi State on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Young Peoples Party, a faction of the All Progressives Congress, among others, have teamed up to support the African Democratic Congress.

At their Inaugural Coalition Stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki on Sunday, the opposition leaders and their stakeholders vowed to take the reins of government in the state come 2027.

Addressing the gathering at the meeting, the 2023 senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Ebonyi South zone, Chief Linus Okorie, expressed optimism that the ADC will rule Nigeria from 2027.

He said the party was out to fight for the betterment of Nigerians through democratic tendencies and processes.

According to him, the leaders of the opposition parties came together to form a common front to work with Nigerians on how best to actualise what they wanted.

“We are out to fight for betterment of Nigeria through democracy. We are not converging to step on anybody’s toe, to castigate anybody, or to attack anybody.

“We are here to talk about how to come together and work with Nigerians on how to do and achieve that which they want.

“We are the Coalition leaders who came from Abuja, Lagos, other parts of the ccountry, and even those in Abakaliki here, and we can’t do it alone. We have to come and inform you, seek your opinion, and show you the guidelines.

“ADC will rule Nigeria by the grace of God and by the support of everyone. And that is true, it is not by abuse, it is not by attack, it is by content of ideas and then superior application of intellect and of course, the mission and vision, which our manifesto will show, and we will implement it.

“A day would be set aside to unveil ADC in the state, and we urge stakeholders of the party to continue to work hard for the party to ensure its success in the 2027 general election.”

Speaking earlier at the meeting, the Chairman of ADC in the state, Mrs. Jenifer Adibe, said her party was recording mass movement with residents because of its principles of inclusivity.

“The ADC is accountable. We are committed to transparency and good governance.

“We will make sure that we have a good number of supporters in the state. ADC in Ebonyi State will deliver at least 3 million votes in 2027 general elections, and we are ready to do it,” she said.

On his part, a former Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Silas Onu, said the time was ripe for Ebonyians to decide who governed them and how they would be governed in 2027.

He urged the people to remain resolute even in the midst of the seeming political witch-hunt and intimidation, adding that the Coalition purveyors were ready to constructively criticise the programs and policies of the ruling party in the state.

Others who attended the meeting were a former Minister of State for Health, Chief Fidelis NNwankwo, who was a governorship aspirant of the LP in t023; the governorship candidate of the YPP, Chief Sunday Opoke; a former Deputy National Secretary of APGA, Chief Jerry Obasi; a governorship aspirant of the PDP in 2019 and a current factional leader of the APC in Ebonyi State, Chief Haroun Ajah; and others.

PUNCH Online reported earlier that the 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki Federal Constituency, Dr Ezeh Eze, and the Ebonyi government disagreed over the former’s rejection of appointment by Governor Francis Nwifuru as a member of the Ebonyi State Economic Advisory Committee.

He rejected the appointment, citing the wrong timing of the constitution of the Committee.

This development came on the heels of the defection of a former Chairman of the PDP in the state, Barr Silas Onu, to ADC.

Olu Of Warri To Clear Itsekiri Graduates’ Tuition Backlog
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/olu-of-warri-to-clear-itsekiri-graduates-tuition-backlog/
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has offered to pay the tuition and clearance fees of students of Itsekiri extraction who graduated from Novena University, Ogume, in the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, under the Presidential Amnesty Programme, but denied their certificates due to the reported failure of successive administrators of the PAP.

This was disclosed by the sole representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL and its JV Partners, Collins Edema, in a statement on Sunday.

Edema said the gesture was in line with the Warri monarch’s passion and unwavering commitment to the growth, development, and empowerment of Itsekiri youths.

He explained that the affected students are to complete a Google Form to submit their details between September 7 and September 30, assuring that the payment of the tuition and clearance fees of the affected graduates will be made.

He said, “The Office of the Sole Representative of His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri to NNPCL wishes to inform all Itsekiri students who are beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, and who have graduated from Novena University but have been unable to obtain their certificates or proceed for the National Youth Service Corps due to outstanding tuition and clearance fees, that His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, has graciously approved an intervention to resolve this matter.

“In line with His Majesty’s passion and unwavering commitment to the growth, development, and empowerment of the Itsekiri youth, a structured process has been established to address these outstanding obligations.

“Immediately after the close of data collection, payments for tuition and clearance fees will commence in batches until all affected students are cleared.”

He asserted the commitment of the Olu of Warri to ensuring that Itsekiri youths enjoy unhindered access to education, empowerment, and opportunities to thrive.

Meanwhile, the monarch’s wife, Olori Atuwatse III, has called for greater inclusion of women in political, economic, and traditional leadership, stressing that their innate skills and influence are essential to shaping Africa’s future.

‎Speaking at the 2025 Women Allying Women Conference in Cape Coast, Ghana, an initiative of her organisation, Elevate Africa, Olori Atuwatse III urged African societies to harness women’s potential and leadership abilities to drive socio-economic and political transformation.

‎Delivering her keynote address, the Olori noted that women’s leadership qualities, often demonstrated within homes and communities, have consistently reflected empathy, fiscal discipline, and strategic foresight.

She lamented the limited presence of women in formal decision-making spaces, particularly in politics and business, and called for reforms to change the trend.

‎In the modern era, royalty demands complementary leadership from both men and women in building thriving societies,” she said. “It is time for constitutional reform to include more queens, mothers, and female traditional leaders in local and traditional councils.”

‎She described Women Allying Women as a platform for female leaders across Africa to collaborate, challenge stereotypes, and reshape societal perceptions of women’s roles.

‎The home is not just a domestic space; it is a microcosm of society,” she said. “We are the generation that not only climbs the ladder but steadies it and guides other women up. When we set the temperature of nations, incredible things will happen.”

‎The event brought together women from diverse sectors across Africa, with discussions centred on empowerment, leadership, and cross-border collaboration.

‎Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mrs. Maame Houadejote, hailed the conference as a “game changer,” noting that it also boosted Cape Coast’s economy and showcased its rich cultural heritage.

Dangote: FG Pleads With NUPENG To Shelve Planned Strike
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/dangote-fg-pleads-with-nupeng-to-shelve-planned-strike/
The Federal Government yesterday appealed to the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to shelve its planned nationwide strike over alleged “anti-union practices, monopolistic agenda and indecent industrial relations strategies by the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

Today was given by the union, which also sought President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, as the strike’s commencement date.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, who made the plea to NUPENG, also called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to withdraw its red alert to its affiliate unions to be on standby for solidarity with the union.

NUPENG is particularly peeved by the decision of the refinery’s management to bar newly recruited drivers of its newly imported Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks from belonging to any existing union in the oil and gas industry.

The management had explained that direct distribution of petroleum products through the CNG trucks to retailers would eliminate logistics costs, enhance energy efficiency, promote sustainability and support the country’s economic development.

In a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations of the ministry, Patience Onuobia, the minister said he had summoned a conciliatory meeting with all the parties for today.

Dingyadi said: “I have invited all the parties for a conciliation meeting, Monday, September 8, 2025. Since I have intervened, I plead with NUPENG to rescind their decision to shut down the petroleum sector from tomorrow.

“I also appeal to the NLC to withdraw the red alert it issued to its affiliate unions to be on standby for a nationwide strike in solidarity with NUPENG.

“The petroleum sector is very important to this country. It constitutes the core of the country’s economy. A strike in the petroleum sector, even for just a day, will have an adverse consequential impact on the economy. It will not only lead to heavy revenue losses by the country, running into billions of Naira, but also cause untold hardship and difficulties for Nigerians.

“Hence, I plead with the unions to give peace a chance. I assure them that this matter will be resolved amicably to the satisfaction of all the parties involved.”

The minister assured Nigerians that the dispute would be resolved to ensure that no disruption occurred in the petroleum sector, which is vital to the Nigerian economy.

The NLC and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) had on Saturday urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the face-off.

In a statement by its President, Joe Ajaero, the NLC said the President needed to “immediately call Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Sayyu Dantata to order” and impress on them to respect national and international labour laws.

The Congress warned that the government should not look the other way while a few individuals privatise the nation’s energy future and enslave its workforce.

It said: “The NLC unequivocally condemn the anti-union, anti-worker, and monopolistic practices of the Dangote Group and its affiliates. Nigerian workers are not slaves and cannot be serially abused without consequences.

“If Dangote continues on this reckless anti-union path, we will move beyond words to action.”

Adeleke Reconciles Deputy, Angry PDP Leaders
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/adeleke-reconciles-deputy-angry-pdp-leaders/
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has successfully reconciled his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and aggrieved leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ife Federal Constituency, bringing to an end weeks of internal wrangling that threatened the unity of the ruling party.

At a peace meeting in Osogbo attended by Adewusi, Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Dr Lere Oyewumi, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and other top stakeholders, Adeleke declared that the misunderstandings which led to a vote-of-no-confidence against the deputy governor and some party leaders had been fully resolved.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the crisis was largely fuelled by a communication gap and external plots to divide the party.

“Throughout this meeting today, I see Ile-Ife PDP very truly united. Now that we have seen the roots of the matter, I charge us to get back to work. Ile-Ife is a PDP territory. Go back and sustain the tempo,” Adeleke said.

He commended the elders, senatorial leaders, party chairmen and operatives for demonstrating unity, adding that his administration had done a lot for Ifeland and would still deliver more.

Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, also downplayed the rift, describing the incident that led to a no-confidence vote as a “family affair” and commending all sides for showing commitment to the party’s progress.

On September 1, leaders of the PDP in Ife Federal Constituency had passed a vote-of-no-confidence in Adewusi, former PDP National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo, and Ife East PDP chairman, Olasunkanmi Makinde, accusing them of fraternising with ex-lawmaker Bimbo Ajilesoro, who defected to the All Progressives Congress.

Insiders suggested the crisis was linked to speculations about a possible replacement of Adeleke’s deputy ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

But with the reconciliation, party stakeholders believe PDP in Ifeland’s four local government areas can now close ranks and rally support for Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Police Deny Shielding Political Thugs
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/police-deny-shielding-political-thugs/
The Police in Lagos State have denied leading thugs to disrupt the formal declaration of the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election in the state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for the African Democratic Party (ADC) over the weekend in Alimosho area of Lagos State.

The police, in a statement on Sunday, signed by its acting spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi maintained that as at Sunday not received any complaint or report of any attack on anybody.

Rhodes Vivour had accused the police of supporting thugs to attack the venue of ADC event

The Lagos police spokesperson said: “The Lagos State Police Command has distanced the Police personnel of the command from insinuations linking it to party politics and political issues in Lagos State.

“The allegations by a section of a political party of the Police Personnel supporting one political party against the other is completely false, misleading and a disservice to the Lagos State Police Command.

“The Command deployed joint Police teams of conventional Police, the tactical squads and anti riot Police units to patrol the entire area of Alimosho LGA and other parts of Lagos State for Crime Prevention and Control, and to nip in the bud any likely disturbance of Public peace and safety throughout the State.

The deployment which started from the 4th September, 2025 throughout Saturday and beyond is aimed to protect the citizenry, lives and property of the people of the affected area and remove the fear of crime from the minds of the people, and these are clearly parts of the constitutional mandates of the NPF in the maintenance of law and order, protection of lives and property, and ensuring public peace across the Lagos State.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Command wishes to categorically state that up till now there was no any complaint or report by any Political party or any individuals at any Police Station anywhere in Alimosho LGA or any other Police formation throughout Lagos State regarding any attack or counter attack on any person or group of persons or on property throughout Alimosho LGA or in any other location in Lagos State.

“The Police teams deployed out were very professional and polite, they provided adequate security and protection to all and were not partisan.

“At no time were police officers from the Lagos State Police Command provided cover to any of the political party member(s) to attack members of the opposite political party as claimed in the report.”

Meanwhile, the ADC has condemned Saturday’s attack on its members during a gathering in Alimosho LGA, Lagos State.

The party expressed outrage that political thugs desecrated a church by spilling blood in its vicinity where a peaceful meeting was meant to hold, describing the incident as evidence of the ruling party’s desperation without boundaries.

The ADC warned that the Saturday invasion of the church venue in Lagos, while outrageous on its own, is consistent with the growing authoritarian temper that the ruling party has demonstrated against the opposition in recent weeks, which, if not challenged on time, might get worse in the months ahead as the ruling party gets even more jittery with the widespread popularity of the ADC.

The party also calls on the Nigeria Police to remember that its primary loyalty is to the constitution and the Nigerian people, not the ruling party. It must, therefore, rise above partisan interests and not allow itself to be turned into the armed wing of the APC.

The statement read in part: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is outraged by the attack that occurred at an ADC gathering in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, where ADC leaders and members had gathered for a peaceful meeting.

“The ADC particularly condemns the invasion of the church premises where the meeting was meant to hold, by government-backed political thugs who spilled blood, seized properties, and destroyed vehicles. This attack on a church premises is a profound act of desecration by a jittery ruling party who would stop at nothing to silence opposition voices in the country.

“With this attack on a church, no one can predict how far this APC under President Tinubu is willing to go in its desperate quest to hold on to power at all costs. It started in Edo with a warning to ADC leaders not to visit the state, followed by Kogi, and then the shutting down of a private radio station in Niger, before it escalated to sponsored attacks on peaceful meetings in Kaduna, followed by attacks on convoys of ADC leaders in Kebbi.”

Lagos Church Attack: APC Acting Like Terrorist Organization — ADC
https://thereflector.com.ng/2025/09/08/lagos-church-attack-apc-acting-like-terrorist-organization-adc/
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of ‘acting like a terrorist organisation, following an attack on its members at a church premises in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State last week.

The gathering was attended by party leaders, including Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who formally declared his membership of the opposition party.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said political thugs believed to be sponsored by the ruling party invaded the church venue, spilling blood, destroying vehicles and seizing property.

The party described the incident as a desecration of a place of worship and a new low in the APC’s alleged campaign of violence against the opposition.

“The invasion of a church premises by government-backed political thugs is a profound act of desecration by a jittery ruling party who would stop at nothing to silence opposition voices in the country,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC warned that the Lagos incident was part of a disturbing pattern of intimidation across several states in recent weeks.

It cited earlier cases, including threats to its leaders in Edo, harassment in Kogi, the shutdown of a private radio station in Niger, attacks on meetings in Kaduna, and assault on convoys of party leaders in Kebbi.

“With this attack on a church, no one can predict how far this APC under President Tinubu is willing to go in its desperate quest to hold on to power at all costs,” the party said.

The ADC also recalled that a Canadian court had recently declared the APC a terrorist organisation, arguing that the only way for the ruling party to salvage its image was to stop attacks on the opposition.

“If churches and other places of worship are no longer regarded as inviolable by the APC goons, how then does the party intend to prove to the world that it is not indeed a terrorist organisation? After all, attacking places of worship is what terrorists do,” Abdullahi added.

The party urged the Nigeria Police Force to resist being used as an arm of the ruling party and to remain loyal to the constitution and the Nigerian people.

It called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the Lagos violence and other attacks targeting ADC leaders nationwide.

“The police have a duty to ensure that justice is served swiftly and transparently to the perpetrators of the attack in Lagos, Kaduna, Kebbi, and all other states where ADC leaders have been threatened and assaulted. Nigerians are watching, and the credibility of our institutions is on trial before the whole world,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC maintained that violence was a confession of failure by the APC, saying the ruling party had chosen intimidation over presenting its record of achievements to Nigerians.

“The APC’s resort to violence and intimidation is a glaring confession of its failure. Rather than present a track record of achievements to the Nigerian people, the APC wants to bulldoze its way into another election season by eliminating opposition. This is the mark of dictatorship,” it said.

The party, however, vowed to remain committed to peaceful engagement with Nigerians while refusing to fold its arms in the face of attacks.

“We will remain undeterred. We are committed to engaging Nigerians peacefully, constructively, and courageously. But we will not fold our arms while our leaders are attacked and our gatherings are turned into battlegrounds. This must stop. And it must stop now,” the ADC declared.
