Angry youths in Bida, Niger State, attacked Governor Umar Bago's convoy, damaging at least six vehicles and injuring Abubakar Mustapha, Chairman of the New Niger Development Project, who was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre for treatment. The violence erupted after the governor failed to fulfill his promise of distributing cash gifts to residents ahead of the local government elections, leaving many feeling disappointed and betrayed.
The youths had gathered at the town hall, expecting to receive money, but only a few benefited, sparking widespread anger. The mob pelted the convoy with stones and sachet water, also vandalizing APC and Governor Bago's billboards, accusing him of deceit and neglect. This incident follows a deadly stampede at a similar cash distribution event, where a young girl died and several others were injured.
