IBOM METROPOLITAN POLYTECHNIC HOLDS INAUGURAL MATRICULATION.

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo has matriculated her first set of students after securing accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The matriculation ceremony which held at the sport grounds of the Polytechnic on Friday, 22nd April, 2022 had in attendance top dignitaries from all works of life including the state Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etebiet, the Chairman, board of trustees and founder of the Polytechnic, Engr. (Dr.) Victor Williams, The Permanent Secretary, State ministry of Education, Lady Rose Bassey among others.

Receiving the students formally into the Polytechnic, the Rector, Hon. Engr. Nnamonso Akpabio urged the students to imbibe the spirit of discipline and hardwork in everything they do in order to achieve their mission at the Polytechnic.

Engr Akpabio advised the matriculating students to be goal-oriented and pursue the objective for which they have come to the institution, stressing that their primary responsibility remains their academic pursuit.

“Your primary aim of coming to IMP is your academics. Study hard to justify whatever resources your parents and guardians have invested in you. Everything you need to excel in your academics have been provided by this institution”.

Engr. Akpabio further stressed that the institution has over the years grown to become one of the most sort after vocational and technical skills oriented institutions in the state and Niger Delta region with state of art infrastructure and training facilities to enhance learning and research.

He therefore tasks the students to put to use the facilities made available by the institution to ensure they come out in flying colors and become employable globally and locally as well as become good citizens of the state and country at large.

“The institution has made available adequate facilities including well equipped workshops and laboratories. There is an e-library here as well as free internet access. All these are made available for your use. Use them to facilitate your learning. This institution will provide you the needed technical skills and opportunities to not just become employable globally, but also to become employers of labor.”

IBOM METROPOLITAN POLYTECHNIC: THE REVOLUTION OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION IN NIGERIA.

Vocational Education has proven over the years to be the backbone and driving force of the economy of any state and country as it provides the skills, trainings, knowledge and produces competent people capable of producing and using technology for industrial and economic development.

However, very few tertiary institutions across Nigeria offer students the opportunity to gain these useful skills and competence.

It is in light of the above and a commitment to provide top notch academic and technical trainings for the advancement of vocational education that Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic was established.

Located in the heart of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic sits on more than 10 hectares of land behind the state secretariat and boasts of modern workshops and equipments for all it’s engineering courses, adequate infrastructures, spacious and conducive environment, well equipped laboratories and up-to-date gadgets to enhance learning and research.

PROGRAMMES.

IMP offers full time and part time programme in Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences and Management. Upon graduation, students of the Polytechnic are also mobilized for the compulsory one year National Youth Service programme.

Candidates seeking admission into different programmes of the institution must obtain five (5) credits in mathematics, English and other subjects relevant to their preferred course of study in not more than two (2) sittings.

A’Ibom 2023: TENSION AS GOV. EMMANUEL IS SET TO RESHUFFLE CABINET.

Fear and anxiety have gripped members of the Akwa Ibom State executive council as the Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel is set to reshuffle his cabinet.

The Governor made the announcement during the state executive council meeting which held at the Government House in Uyo today Thursday, March 17, 2022.

The Governor also hinted that the rejigging exercise which will see five commissioners eased out of office will also affect aids and other appointees.

With barely a year left before the end of his administration, the decision to reshuffle his cabinet according to sources close to the Government House, is to get rid of perceived elements who are no longer loyal to the Governor.

There are speculations that some cabinet members of the Udom’s administration are agrieved with the pattern with which the governor is running the state. They are also alleged not to be in agreement with the Governor’s choice of Umo Eno as his preferred successor and are secretly supporting other top aspirants like Obong Bassey Albert and Hon. Onofiok Luke who recently declared his intention.

The source also hinted that the Governor is not happy with recent happenings in the state citing issues that led to the sacking of the Chief of staff and the recent scuffles between the governor’s wife and some female members of the state executive council.

Earlier in the week, two commissioners viz-a-viz commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon and the commissioner for Labour and Man Power Development, Pastor Sunny Ibuot resigned from office to chased their gubernatorial ambitions.

There has been tension and panic in the state since the Governor’s announcement of Umo Eno as his preferred successor with many members of his cabinet as well as party stakeholders in the state disagreeing with his choice.
