NSIT ATAI COUNCIL CHAIRMAN WELCOMES YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS, URGES COMMITMENT TO ORIENTATION COURSE
The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon (Prince) Anthony Nyong, has welcomed newly sworn-in Youth Corps Members and urged them to exhibit good citizenship, patriotism, and discipline during their 3-week orientation exercise.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch 'C', Stream II Youth Corps members at the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, today, January 24, Hon Nyong encouraged the corps members to be physically, psychologically, and socially prepared to face the challenges of nation-building.
The Chairman assured the corps members of their safety and security in Nsit Atai, describing the area as peaceful and hospitable. He encouraged them to present themselves as worthy ambassadors of their families and the NYSC scheme, exhibiting the qualities of "Service and Humility" as enshrined in the NYSC motto.
"Nsit Atai is a peaceful Local Government Area. You will have nothing to worry about while in the camp, as your security and safety are guaranteed. Our hospitality here is topnotch because we as a people love to take care of our guests and I can assure you that you will not regret your stay in this community. I enjoin you to always present yourselves as worthy ambassadors of your various families and indeed the NYSC scheme by exhibiting the sterling qualities of "Service and Humility" as enshrined as the motto of the NYSC"
Hon Nyong who expressed his gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for his unwavering support and commitment to youth development and national integration, also congratulated the corps members on their successful enlistment into the the NYSC scheme.
In his address, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Mr Effiong Nicolas, admonished the corps members to make humility, discipline, and commitment their watchword. He reminded them that nation-building is a daunting task that requires their individual and collective contributions.
"Compatriots in the National service, as you take the oath of allegiance today, the daunting task of nation-building is starring you in the face as you are expected to contribute your quota to the development of Nigeria, individually and collectively."
"Nigeria needs people like you to show that we can stay together and achieve our aim of a united and indivisible nation, though tribe and tongue may differ. Also, be reminded to obey your camp officials and all the rules and regulations of the camp"
The Governor, while declaring the orientation camp open, wishes the corp members a fruitful and successful orientation course.
The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Samuel Pepple, appreciated the corps members' eagerness to undergo the mandatory youth corps service. He stated that various activities lined up would be entertaining and educating, advising them to strictly comply with all the rules and regulations.
Mr. Pepple stated that a total number of 1660 Corps members, comprising 942 females and 718 males, were sworn in.
The high point of the event was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to Corps Members by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Hon Justice Ekatte Obot, represented by Justice Edem Akpan
Also present at the event were the representative of the Nigeria Police, the representative of the Comptroller of Immigration, the representative of the Director of State Services, the representative of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), the representative of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Directors and Staff of the NYSC
