1. Using the Wrong Foundation Shade

The Mistake:
Buying a foundation that looks great in the bottle—but ends up too light or too dark on your skin.

Fix It:
Always test foundation on your jawline or neck, not your hand. Nigerian skin tones are rich and diverse, so choose brands that offer wide shade ranges like Zikel, Nuban Beauty, or Tara. If you're in-between shades, mix two close colorsto get your perfect match.

2. Skipping Primer

The Mistake:
Applying makeup directly on dry, oily, or unprepped skin.

Fix It:
Primer is the base that makes your makeup last and look smoother. For oily skin, use a mattifying primer; for dry skin, go for a hydrating or glowing primer. Your makeup will apply better and stay in place all day!

3. Over-Blending (Yes, It's a Thing!)

The Mistake:
Blending your eyeshadow or contour so much that everything disappears.

Fix It:
Blend just enough to soften harsh lines, but don’t overdo it. Use a light hand and the right brush for each step—small blending brushes for eyeshadow, fluffy angled brushes for contour.

4. Harsh, Boxy Eyebrows

The Mistake:
Using black pencil or drawing overly sharp brows that look unnatural.

Fix It:
Use a dark brown pencil or brow gel instead of black. Start by filling in lightly, especially in the front of the brow. Then use a spoolie to blend it out for a softer, more natural look.

5. Too Much Powder or Setting Spray

The Mistake:
Caking your face with powder or drenching it with spray.

Fix It:
Less is more! Use a small amount of translucent powder on oily areas only. For setting spray, one or two spritzes from a distance is enough. If your face still feels dry, spray once more and press it in with a beauty sponge.
