The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, has dismissed claims by former presidential candidate Peter Obi that two students died during the violence that marred the institution’s student union election last Saturday.

Obi, in a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter), had alleged that the election chaos led to the death of two students and left several others injured.

But the polytechnic, in a statement on Tuesday, described the claim as false, misleading and completely unfounded.

PUNCH Online had reported that several students were injured after violence erupted during the student union government elections.

Liverpool star Diogo Jota has died in a car crash at the age of 28, two weeks after his wedding.

His brother Andre, a 26-year-old footballer, who was in the car with him, also passed away in the incident near Zamora, Spain. The vehicle had reportedly went off road and caught fire.

The tragic accident comes just two weeks after Jota married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso in Porto.
Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and went on to make 182 appearances, winning two Premier League titles in the process.

Tanko confirmed that Obi’s four-year single tenure proposal has formally been submitted to the opposition coalition being championed by opposition figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and former Senate President David Mark for scrutiny.

“We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision. But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that. What Nigeria needs now are leaders with integrity,” he said.

According to Tanko, Obi does not require more than four years to transform the country and rescue its economy from collapse.

“Obi has said clearly—even though the single term is not in the constitution—that he is committing himself to serve only one tenure. He believes four years is more than enough to accomplish his mission. That shows you how prepared and focused he is.

“Even stabilising electricity alone will solve a multitude of problems. He is promising that under his leadership, Nigeria will become an exporting country again. Planes will no longer leave our airports empty,” Tanko stated.
