PRESS RELEASE

WAEC TECHNICAL GLITCH: MINISTRY CONFIRMS RESOLUTION, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO EXAM INTEGRITY

The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity of national examinations as it updates the public on the recently resolved technical issue affecting the 2025 WASSCE results. The issue arose during post-release processing, particularly in subjects where paper serialization had been introduced as part of WAEC's exam security measures. It was promptly addressed following a full briefing of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa.

The Ministry commends the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for its swift response, transparency, and professionalism in resolving the glitch. Updated results w will be accessible via the result checker portal 24 hours. The Ministry also appreciates the patience of affected candidates and assures the public of its continued pursuit of fairness and credibility in assessment processes.

This development reinforces the Honourable Minister's broader education reform agenda, which prioritizes examination integrity across all bodies under the Ministry's supervision, particularly WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO). In line with this, both bodies are set to commence a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), beginning with objective components in November 2026.

The adoption of CBT represents a critical step toward curbing malpractice, preventing question leakages, and restoring public trust in the examination system. It is a necessary reform to ensure Nigerian students are assessed strictly on merit and that their certificates retain credibility both locally and internationally.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of examinations is not optional-it is essential. Upholding high standards, he noted, protects the future of our young people and sustains Nigeria's global reputation for academic excellence.

The Ministry remains committed to working with WAEC, NECo, and all stakeholders to deliver an assessment system that reflects the true ability of Nigerian students and strengthens public confidence in the nation's education framework.

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has announced a landmark increase in scholarship grants across all academic levels! 🎓🇳🇬

In a major reform of the national scholarship programme, grant amounts have been increased by 50% to ease financial burdens on students and drive national development. This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a strong focus on STEM and vocational training to help build a $1 trillion economy.

Here’s what’s changing:
PhD students: Now get ₦750,000 annually (up from ₦500,000).
Master’s students: Now get ₦600,000 annually (up from ₦400,000).
Undergraduate, HND, and NCE students: Now get ₦450,000 annually (up from ₦300,000).

The reforms also introduce two new scholarship categories for students in public polytechnics studying STEM/vocational programs and for students in medicine and related fields. In a push for inclusivity, 5% of all scholarships will be reserved for students with disabilities.

This initiative is a bold investment in our youth, aimed at cultivating the human capital needed for Nigeria’s future.

New Entrepreneurship Center Breaks Ground at AKSU.

A new chapter for student innovation began at Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Entrepreneurial Development Centre. The project, sponsored entirely by Amaecom Global Limited as a corporate social responsibility initiative, was officiated by the company's founder, Marcel Ofomata, and the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nse Essien. This center aims to empower students with the essential skills and resources needed to thrive as future business leaders.

The new facility follows a pledge made by Ofomata on April 9th, 2025, during the "Leadership and Entrepreneurial Summit." Organized by the AKSU Alumni Association, the summit's theme was "Igniting Leadership and Entrepreneurial Excellence: Alumni as a Catalyst." During his address, Ofomata, the special guest of honor, announced his intention to fund the project, stating his commitment to investing in the potential of young Nigerians.

The project is more than just a building; it embodies the Marcel Ofomata Foundation's mission to empower aspiring entrepreneurs. Ofomata explained that this initiative is his way of giving back to the community that was fundamental to his own development. He expressed his belief that by providing the right tools and mentorship, the center would serve as a catalyst for societal growth, producing key players not just in business but across all sectors.

The ceremony was well-attended by university management, students, and community members. Ofomata extended his gratitude to everyone for their support and for accepting the project. He also assured attendees that the center would be delivered on time and to the highest standards. The establishment of this center is a significant step toward fostering a culture of innovation and self-reliance within the university and the broader community.
