As soon as I finished boosting this post, I thought to share a mistake I see most business owners make with boosting.

A lot of people hit the boost button thinking it will bring them sales.
That’s where the problem starts.

❌ Boosting isn’t optimized for sales.

You can’t install or use your pixel, you can’t properly track actions, and you definitely can’t retarget people who showed interest but didn’t buy.

Boosting works best when your goal is simple, more likes, comments, or messages.

✅ But if your real goal is selling your product or service, whether digital or physical, you’ll need to use the Ads Manager.

When you are running Ads, the target audience Facebook is pushing your content to is mostly strangers.

And guess what?

Strangers barely buy from strangers.

A total stranger would barely buy from you without gaining certain level of trust (that they can get what they are paying for or that you are worth being paid for the service or product).

In that case, there has to be some form of trust-building, especially with social proofs (testimonials, results, reviews).

There also has to be some nurturing, especially for expensive products, to give these strangers more time to make their buying decisions.

Stop thinking that once you start running adverts, people would start throwing money at you.

Facebook and Instagram Ads ain't magic.

For those that say, I didn’t have all of these but I still made sales, just know you would’ve made 10 times more if you built trust.

Your digital footprints 👣.

The first stage of social media campaign planning is the target name-
What’s his/her “name.”

Followed by “Needs”, ain’t you surprised that you open Facebook and the next thing you see is Facebook Ads showing ”A particular course from Udemy or Kitchen Utensil from Konga?

The development of the Demographics stage is gradually taking shape as AI is being deployed to study what your closest person likes.

Eg- If Didi Johnson likes wearing blue and going without heels, it’s possible that Glory Essang might likely be like love what Didi likes just because they are friends. [ Look alike]

Age is another factor
Let’s say- A laundry shop that operates just for techies 👩🏻‍💻.
I will be targeting people between the age of 20- 45yrs. For anyone above that, my Ads won’t appear for them.

Gender- I can choose to narrow it down to Male or Female or Both, depending on what I want.

Now, studies show that 89% percent of Clothes at the laundry shops are owned and given by Men.

I will now narrow the household income to $1600-$5000.
However, I am yet to figure out how they determine this part.

Education Background-
Probably you have updated your profile about your educational qualifications, there was a caught and you are.

Occupation, gradually the conversation about this part is fading because you don’t even need to update it again, your social media life is an example of what your occupation is.
If you write about investment always, the internet automatically picks it to be your interest and you can be targeted by the constant usage of Keywords.

Location is another convenient factor, however, recently, you can choose to target someone by just being at a particular location for 6months ago.

Eg
Edidiong Udobia was in California 6months ago and I am running a campaign targeting people that were in that location 6Months ago.
Our digital footprints are stronger.

Now, I have to think about the interest of the people I want.
What will possibly interest Watchout Naija that loves to talk about Law?
What can I sell to use a person?

If Obong Hanson loves everything I mentioned, what will I think about some of his behaviors?
What is his catch for fun?

Planning a customer journey and delivering excellent service is hard but the fun of doing it is worth the mental efforts.

When next you see Ads on your feeds, remember that you have what they are looking for.

A few months ago, one of my students was over the moon.
He just run a Facebook Ads campaign for a client and generated hundreds of leads.

His phone buzzed nonstop with messages from the client, “We’ve got so many inquiries!”
Then… silence.


Days passed, and not a single lead was converted.
The excitement turned into frustration.
