She got her FIRST 2 Upwork jobs within 48 hours… as a complete newbie!

I woke up to over three missed calls. First, I wondered what could have been so urgent, and then I called back. As I listened to her go on and on about a conversation with a prospective client, being careful not to break Upwork policy, my sleepy self just wanted to bite her nose🤣.

But when she shared the screenshot of the email she received from Upwork, the sleep cleared and I wanted to give her a hug for starting my day with such amazing news.
That’s the part I live for.

And then… the second job came in the same day!

This came from one of my students from the just concluded Feb/March 6-week training — and it reminded me again:

Sometimes, your breakthrough is just ONE tip away.

If you need some help making your first $1000, this is for you.

My first pay as a 7-month pregnant work-from-home mum was $100 in my first week at my first Upwork job. It took me a month to withdraw my funds because of some issues with my bank.

I remember walking out of the bank with $300 notes💵(3, $100 bills). It felt so good 😊, this was money made out of ease. Doing something I love from the comfort of my home. From a stay-at-home mum doing nothing at the time, this was a breakthrough!

📌𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒑 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆. 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒘𝒃𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒈𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒖𝒕!

I, on the other hand, skipped all of that by climbing on the shoulder of someone who has been there, done that, has visible results.

This April, I will be going on this journey that has moved me from earning $100 in a week to earning that in a few hours with another group of new and aspiring freelancers who are hungry for success.

I moved from charging $5/hr to $20/hr as a Virtual Assistant. Here’s how!

When I started my freelancing journey, myself and most of my colleagues set our rates at $4-5 per hour. This was a good start but here’s how I made the big shift.

First I wondered if there were clients out there who would pay higher for administrative support. The answer was a big YES!

I went ahead to find out what other freelancers in my niche who charged more for their services were doing differently. Now, this was the game changer for me.

📌 They offered specialized services not just general virtual assistant like I call it.
📌 They have mastery of in-demand skills that most VAs don’t and they have convincing portfolios to show for it.
📌 A track record of excellent service delivery.
📌 They also offer consultation calls where they discuss and analyze their client’s needs and help their clients understand how best to maximize their services.

I went back to the drawing board, spent months upskilling myself, focused only on jobs in my niche and gave it my best, worked on my profile and changed my rate.

It’s been over a year and I have proven again beyond reasonable doubt that clients who are ready to pay higher for quality services are more than we know and they are always the best to work for!

After reading this post, you will finally work on adding an introductory video to your Upwork profile.

Y’all my dearest freelancers already know by now that I’ve got you 💯, right?

For my fellow , I got this job by just having an introductory video on my profile.

So, I received a job offer unexpectedly. No submitted proposal, no invite, no direct message, just a direct offer (I love the sound of that 😉).

First I thought it was a client that knew me from this platform (I’ve gotten loads of invites from clients that meet me here and went ahead to send me an invite or direct message on Upwork).
While on a call with the client, I discovered that my assumption was wrong.

This client sent a direct offer after watching the introductory video on my Upwork profile, what????

I’m particularly excited about this because I just never saw the need for that in my early days as a freelancer. I remember deleting my first video because I believed it wasn’t good enough.

Here are a few tips for making a good introductory video, feel free to share yours in the comment section below 👇🤗:

📌 Confidence
📌 Get to the point, no one will watch a long boring video
📌 Sound delightful yet professional.
📌 Don’t forget to smile through it, it’s not that serious 😉.

👉🏽This amazing phrase is the reason why most young talents take up jobs that I like to call traps, amazing because it has some areas of life it applies perfectly to but can also imply settling for less when applied to other areas of life.

What is your major reason for seeking a job?

📌 Relevance
📌 Career and personal growth
📌 Sense of fulfillment

What am I missing ???

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐣𝐨𝐛.

How many of those boxes did this job tick? Most people settle for jobs that can’t even pay bills, let’s not even talk about independence. No sense of fulfillment and no room for career growth.

I understand you need a job asap! But if we are honest, how many times have you settled for a job opportunity because of that phrase above 👆 and suddenly realize that 5 years has passed and you haven’t moved a bit and it was all a trap??

So while I spoke with this promising young lady, I explained why a job that can only pay her transport to the office with barely enough left to feed is not a good job choice not only because of the poor pay but also because of the mindset of the employer.

When an employer feels they are doing you a favour offering you a job at a very poor rate regardless of your skills, simply because they believe there are thousands of other applicants who will jump on their offer, that’s a red flag 🚩.

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐠𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝!

It’s not always how far but how well❗️

I believe so much in self development and I have decided not to settle.
