There is an elderly woman in my area who sells natural ingredients like garlic, ginger, turmeric, cloves, and other little spices. I usually buy from her.
Day before yesterday, I went out to get some ingredients from her as usual, only to hear that she had passed away.
According to what I was told, the woman came out to sell her goods, which she displayed close to a gutter. Suddenly, she fainted and fell inside the gutter.
What broke my heart was hearing that instead of rushing her to the hospital, some people brought out their phones to record videos.
She reportedly remained there until her son returned and removed her from the gutter lifeless.
This is a painful reminder that we, especially Nigerian content creators, need to do better.
Not every situation is content. Not every emergency needs a camera. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is save a life.
If someone collapses in your presence, please help first before thinking about recording. A few minutes of immediate assistance could make the difference between life and death.
