HON. NKOM UNVEILS PROPOSED LOCATION FOR RAFFIA CITY MALL
..As Ikot Ekpene TRC Hands Over Land

The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, has unveiled the proposed site for the construction of the Raffia City Mall, reaffirming his administration's commitment to transforming the local government area into an economic hub.

Speaking today, May 22, 2025, during the formal handover of the Old Ikot Ekpene-Aba Motor Park by the Ikot Ekpene Traditional Rulers Council (TRC), Hon. Nkom shared the vision behind the project with the community.

He stated that the Raffia City Mall, scheduled for construction, will showcase arts and cultural artefacts, and feature a two-story sit-out area designed for relaxation.

Hon. Nkom further explained that the mall’s design will integrate local materials such as wood and raffia, all sourced from within Ikot Ekpene.

According to him, the facility will also include an event centre, retail shops, and dedicated workshops for arts and crafts production, each equipped with modern finishing machines.

He announced that the mall is expected to be inaugurated during the 75th anniversary celebration of the local government area next year, and he sought the blessings of royal fathers and stakeholders to ensure the project's success.

While performing the symbolic handover and offering prayers for the project's commencement, the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Akuku Okon Udo Ukut, lauded the Chairman for his developmental strides. The royal father noted that the initiative aims to reposition and restore the ancient economic glory and historical prestige of the Premier Local Government Area in West Africa.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Chairman's wife, Mrs. Affiong Nkom; Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene, Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien; Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Otu; Vice Chairman, Obonganwan Abigail Akpan; Council Secretary, M

Gov. Eno Never Said the State Receives N200B Monthly – Akwa Ibom Govt

The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked an online report by The Crest Newspaper crested as Breaking News alleging that Governor Umo Eno admitted the State receives N200 billion monthly.

In a release Thursday afternoon from the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo, the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, described the claims as false, misleading, and irresponsible.

He clarified that contrary to the report, there is no State Executive Council Meeting currently ongoing, but rather the monthly two-day Projects Delivery and Performance Review Meeting.

“At no point did the Governor state or suggest that the State receives N200 billion monthly,” Umanah stated.
“He only cautioned against misleading headlines such as one claiming the State received N650 billion which could falsely imply a monthly revenue of N200 billion, an impossible and inaccurate figure.”

On political matters, the Commissioner reaffirmed that Governor Eno said he had no intention to destroy the structure of the PDP or any other political party in the State.

Umanah also explained that the Governor’s comments on political alignment of members of his Exco were standard expectations for appointees who serve at the pleasure of the Governor.

He described the online report as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, and urge journalists to abide by the ethics of their profession by reporting accurately and objectively.

“We stand by our official statement of May 21, 2025, and urge the public to disregard the fabrications in the said report,” Umanah concluded.

'Technical Fault' prevents A'Ibom Assembly from holding Plenary

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Thursday, suspended its plenary due to a 'technical fault' at its legislative chambers.

The House had last week, adjourned its sitting to Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 10am.

However, TheMail reports that
although some lawmakers were in their offices, plenary had not started as at 2pm.

Press Secretary to the Speaker, Emmanuel Ebong, told Assembly Correspondents that "Plenary has been postponed to Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due to technical fault at the legislative chambers."

No further explanation was given regarding what technical fault had occurred.

The Assembly Complex is currently in a dilapidated state, with no office provision made for some units, including Journalists covering the House, a situation that may have prompted the State Governor, Umo Eno to announce renovation plans for the complex, during a tour of the facility in July last year.

Meanwhile, it was unclear if the state Governor, Umo Eno had forwarded the list of Commissioner and Special Adviser Nominees to the House of Assembly on Thursday.
