AND AGAIN I SAY, REJOICE
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” – Philippians 4:4 (KJV)
There are some truths so important that the Holy Spirit does not want us to miss them. “Andagain I say, Rejoice” — Paul’s repetition was not poetic; it was intentional. He was not writingfrom a comfortable palace or a peaceful garden. He was in prison, yet his heart overflowed withjoy. His chains could not silence his praise. His circumstances could not cage his spirit.
Paul knew something the average believer forgets, joy is not tied to circumstances; it is
anchored in Christ. That is why he said, “Rejoice in the Lord.” Not in things, not in people, not inachievements, not in comfort — but in the Lord. When your joy is rooted in the unchangingnature of God, it cannot be shaken by changing seasons of life.
“And again I say, Rejoice.” Paul repeats it because he understands how easily we lose sight ofjoy when trials arise. He knew believers would face hardships, persecution, delay, anddisappointment. But he also knew that joy is the strength of the believer (Nehemiah 8:10). Whenjoy fades, faith weakens. When joy is restored, strength returns.
Joy is not denial of pain; it is the declaration that pain will not have the final say. It is the soul’sdefiant shout in the midst of storms: “I still trust God!” Paul’s letter from prison teaches us thatjoy is a choice, not a condition. It is a posture of victory in the face of adversity.
Perhaps today, you are facing your own “prison”—a situation that feels confining, uncomfortable,or unfair. The Word of the Lord still stands: Rejoice in the Lord always. Not sometimes. Notwhen it’s easy. Always.
Rejoicing does not mean pretending everything is fine. It means looking beyond what is seen tothe God who is faithful. It means lifting your hands in praise when your heart is heavy. It meanschoosing gratitude over grumbling. It means saying, “Lord, even here, I will rejoice in You.”
Paul’s repetition—“And again I say, rejoice”—is a gentle yet firm reminder: Joy is your
responsibility. Heaven supplies the reason; you supply the response. Joy keeps your spirit alive, your faith active, and your perspective clear.
Let this truth anchor you today: Your joy is not in what is happening around you but in Who liveswithin you. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever—and in Him, there is always a reason to rejoice.
