FEAR OF BECOMING A SINGLE MOM
At about 7:30am on Monday, the primary school bell was ringing constantly.. an indication that it's devotion time.
Esther standing on her grandmother's mattress made out of fibre bags stuffed with dry grass, fumbling with a giant needle between her fingers trying to stitch her lone cotton-like pant that just disappointed her that morning. Earlier while Esther was done bathing from the back yard, she picked up her wet lone pant... in the process of putting it on, the elastic worn-out.. Esther has to do something, she use a scissors, cut part of the pant off, and was trying to stitch it to fitting. After the first attempt, she didn't succeed coz the leg she had reduced initially couldn't size her again as the pant has become smaller than that leg which leads to another disaster.
8:15a.m. Esther was seen tiptoeing into her classroom with her mismatch thick blue uniform instead of the normal skyblue which is the school official colour.
Grandma had left earlier to the farm...after school, Esther rush home, drop her bag home, ate and straight to the farm which was what almost all the children in the village does after school.
Esther was raised by her grandmother since she was 1year, she rarely see her mother as a single Mom she was out there struggling to make ends meeting, Esther sees her mother once a year and at times after 2-3years, she resulted calling her Mother Auntie and her grandmother she call Mami(Mommy).
Esther has never spend a month in a home where children will call their parents (Daddy) or (Mommy) till she was 19years old. Because all her life she has been with her grandmother who was a window...
She was brilliant in her primary school despite growing with her grandmother... she walk kilometers away from home to school with bare legs, no shoes, no school bag which made her more determine in life eventhough she was young.
The reality of life set in when she finished primary 7...
