INTRODUCING DR. IDONGESIT NTA WILSON
A VISIONARY REPRESENTATIVE FOR IKOT ABASI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY (PART 3)

By Fredrick Usen

Leadership is best measured not only by titles held, but by sacrifices made, loyalty demonstrated, and the courage to stand firm when it matters most. For Dr. Idongesit Nta Wilson, these values have defined his enduring relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the people of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency.

Long before his political ambition became a subject of public discourse, Dr. Wilson had already established himself as a committed party man who invested time, resources, and personal comfort to ensure the survival and growth of the party at the grassroots level.

At a time when the party faced operational challenges in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Dr. Wilson stepped in decisively by providing a befitting Chapter Party Office complex, ensuring that the APC maintained a visible, functional presence and a rallying point for members.

His intervention significantly boosted the morale of party executives and members during a critical period. The facility itself reflects his vision and commitment, featuring two large halls with seating capacities of over 200 and 150 persons, respectively, as well as office spaces for key party officials. It created a conducive environment for coordination, planning, and effective party administration.

Understanding the financial barriers that often discourage participation in party processes, he went further to fund the procurement of nomination forms for APC councillorship candidates during the last local government elections. an election cycle in which the party operated from a position of opposition, within a system widely acknowledged for its structural disadvantages.

In that same election, Dr. Wilson played a pivotal role in validating the Chairmanship candidacy by facilitating the procurement of the Vice Chairmanship nomination form, thereby ensuring the completeness and legitimacy of the party’s ticket. He also took responsibility for securing tax clearance for candidates whose forms were procured, removing administrative hurdles that could have hindered their participation.

Perhaps most remarkably, at a time when many were hesitant due to the realities surrounding local government elections in Nigeria, Dr. Wilson demonstrated uncommon courage and conviction by committing his personal resources to support the party’s participation. While others chose to stand back, he chose to stand firm by investing not just money, but belief in the future of the party.

His support also extended to funding stakeholders’ meetings and engagements across Ikot Abasi LGA. Through these efforts, he strengthened grassroots mobilization, improved coordination, and deepened engagement among party members.

Beyond these visible contributions, Dr. Wilson has consistently:
• Mobilized support for party activities across communities
• Encouraged youth participation and inclusion in politics
• Promoted peace, unity, and cooperation among party stakeholders

His approach to politics is rooted in service, sacrifice, and sustainability. He understands that strong political institutions are not built only during election seasons, but through continuous investment in people and structures.

Today, as he seeks to represent the people Ikot Abasi federal constituency , Dr. Wilson’s track record within the APC speaks clearly of his loyalty, capacity, and readiness to serve. He is not new to the struggle, he is someone who has contributed to building, sustaining, and strengthening the very foundation upon which future successes will stand.

For the people of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, this is more than just another aspiration. It will be the representation of a tested, trusted, and truly committed party man.

Umo Eno’s Aide Blasts Ata Ikiddeh, Defends Udom Emmanuel Over “Baseless Attacks”

A fiery political exchange has erupted in Akwa Ibom as Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, took a direct swipe at Ata Ikiddeh, accusing him of sustained attacks on former Governor Udom Emmanuel.

In a strongly worded statement, Ndueso faulted what he described as “irresponsible and needless attacks” on leaders of the state, questioning Ikiddeh’s constant criticism of the former governor despite professing support for Governor Umo Eno.

He particularly dismissed the controversy surrounding Udom Emmanuel’s alleged use of a private jet, insisting that the former governor reserves the right to conduct his private business using any means of transportation he deems fit.

“What really is your pain in Mr. Emmanuel hiring a private jet or any other means of transportation in attending his private business?” Ndueso queried, framing the criticism as unnecessary and politically motivated.

The aide went further, linking Ikiddeh’s stance to what he described as personal frustration, alleging that his inability to secure a media consultancy role during Udom Emmanuel’s administration may have fueled the continued attacks.

“You cannot claim to support the present administration while constantly throwing jabs at a former leader just to create tension,” he said, warning that such conduct does not align with the values of the current government.

Ndueso also took a broader jab at what he called a growing trend of political antagonism, stressing that no one earns relevance in government by insulting leaders or elders.

He urged Ikiddeh to “put an end to the childish bad blood,” calling for a more constructive and respectful political discourse in the state.

Ikot Ekpene Lawmaker Orders Arrest of Constituents Over Criticism of Representation

The member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Jerry Otu, has ordered the arrest of some constituents who publicly questioned his representation.

The move follows recent protests by youths in Ikot Ekpene who rejected his second-term bid, citing poor performance, lack of empowerment, and limited developmental impact across the constituency.

The development comes days after a group of youths openly rejected what they described as attempts to impose a second-term bid, insisting on their right to choose their own representative.

Barr. Ofonime Effiong said the reported move to involve law enforcement raises serious questions about democratic values, particularly the right of citizens to freely express dissatisfaction and demand accountability from elected officials.

He argued that asking for a performance review of a public office holder is not only legitimate but fundamental to representative democracy, warning that any attempt to criminalize such demands could set a dangerous precedent and erode public trust.

“This is not just about one constituency; it is about protecting the civic space and ensuring that citizens are not harassed or intimidated for speaking up,” he said.

The individuals reportedly affected Barr. Akanimo Richard, Comrade Udeme Gabriel Inyang, and Comrade Joshua Akpan had earlier emphasized their commitment to peaceful engagement, stating that their actions would remain within the bounds of the law.

Also speaking, Obong CSP Emmanuel Udoh, a retired police officer, called on security agencies to act professionally and avoid being drawn into political disputes.

He stressed that their role is to uphold justice and protect citizens’ rights, not suppress dissent.

He further urged political leaders to embrace constructive criticism, engage constituents openly, and provide clear accounts of their stewardship rather than resorting to measures perceived as intimidation.

Police Uncover Alleged Plot to Disrupt Economic Activities in Eastern Obolo

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered what it describes as credible intelligence pointing to a coordinated plot to disrupt economic activities in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the alleged plan involves certain individuals, including some traditional rulers, politicians, and youth leaders.

The Command warned that such actions pose a serious threat to the economic stability of the area and the livelihoods of residents who depend on a peaceful environment for their businesses.

According to the statement, any attempt to sabotage economic activities, disrupt lawful operations, or incite unrest for personal or political gain will not be tolerated.

Azare issued a stern warning to those allegedly involved to immediately desist, noting that the police are closely monitoring the situation and will act decisively against any breach of peace. He stressed that individuals found culpable would be identified, arrested, and prosecuted, regardless of their status.

The Police Command also reaffirmed its readiness to protect critical infrastructure, particularly Federal Government energy assets across the state.

It assured residents that necessary measures have been put in place to safeguard economic activities in Eastern Obolo and other parts of Akwa Ibom.

The Commissioner further called on parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to caution their wards against engaging in acts capable of disrupting economic activities, warning that offenders would face severe consequences.

The Command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible information, reiterating its commitment to protecting lives, property, and economic interests across the state.

“I Left My Shop to Return”: How a Revamped Rural Market Nearing Completion Is Changing Lives in Nsit Ubium

For years, Urua Ntakrok market in Ikot Ubo, Nsit Ubium Ubium LGA was a place many traders avoided a shadow of what a thriving community market should be. Poor infrastructure, limited space, and an uninviting environment kept business slow and spirits low.

Today, that story is changing, with the massive market upgrade now nearing completion.

The project, executed under the leadership of Hon. Alfred Charles as Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, has begun to reshape the market’s outlook and restore confidence among traders.

With the completion of 27 blocks of partitioned stalls housing 378 stalls, three blocks of lock-up shops, open stalls, modern toilet facilities, a generator house, market offices, and an abattoir, and finishing touches ongoing, the once-neglected market is steadily transforming into a vibrant commercial hub.

But beyond the numbers and structures, the real story lies in the people.

Lady Manasseh Etukudoh James, a trader from Ubium South Ward 2, never imagined she would one day abandon her former shop to return to Urua Ntakrok.

“I am a politician and PDP ward chairman in my ward,” she said, standing beside her stall. “I never used to sell here because the situation was terrible. But when I saw what the chairman did, I had to come back. He has made this place so beautiful.”

Her decision reflects a wider shift. Even before final completion, traders who once stayed away are returning, drawn by improved facilities and growing customer traffic.

“We used to hear of developments like this in other places,” she added. “But now it has come to us. We are happy, and we pray God blesses him richly.”

For Itoro, a trader who travels from Eket, the transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

“In the past, this market was an eyesore,” she said. “But today, it’s different. People now come from far distances to trade here. I personally can’t resist coming since it was rebuilt.”

That renewed attraction is visible in the steady flow of buyers and sellers, even as work approaches its final stages, turning the market into a growing hub of economic activity.

Inyang Inyang James from Akai Ubium described the project as a long-awaited answer to years of hope.

“We’ve been waiting for this for so long,” he said. “Many promised, but nothing happened. Now, we’ve seen it with our own eyes. What the chairman has done shows that God is involved.”

For community elder, Chief James Akpata, the market’s rebirth carries deeper historical significance.

Taking a step back in time, he recalled how successive leaders had promised to revive Urua Ntakrok but failed to deliver.

“This is the number one market in Nsit Ubium,” he said. “For years, it was all promises. But this time, it has been done.”

Now, what was once a neglected trading ground, with work nearing completion, is fast becoming a symbol of renewal, not just of infrastructure, but of trust, opportunity, and community pride.

Beyond its physical transformation, the upgraded market is also expected to significantly improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the local government through structured trading activities, stall allocations, and increased commercial transactions. The expansion and modernization of the market are creating new economic opportunities, generating employment for traders, artisans, transporters, and support services within the value chain. As more traders and buyers converge on Urua Ntakrok, economic activities are set to intensify, positioning the market as a key driver in boosting the overall economy of Nsit Ubium and its surrounding communities.

University Don calls for establishment of a Blue Economy Ministry in Akwa Ibom
.. commends Gov Eno on Ongoing Renovation of Oron Maritime Terminal

By Utibe Udokang

A Political scientist at the University of Uyo, Dr. Samuel Asua, has called for the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Marine Affairs to oversee Akwa Ibom’s coastal assets.

Speaking on ‘Arise Policy Thrust’ a special programme on Premium 89.9FM Abak, Dr. Asua while lauding Governor Umo Eno’s renovation of the Oron Marine Jetty Terminal, described the project as a remarkable catalyst for the state's burgeoning blue economy.

“His Excellency, the Governor is already showing exemplars of one of the elements of blue economy by constructing the jetty at Oron,” he stated.

To fully unlock this potential, the University Don advocated for a strategic expansion of such infrastructure, suggesting that these maritime projects be replicated across every coastal community in Akwa Ibom State.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Dr. Asua stressed the necessity of an autonomous Ministry to provide the regulatory framework required for the sector.

“If you want to harness or benefit from the blue economy, you need a standalone Ministry that directs the blue economy activities.” the University Scholar advised.

Such a body, he noted, would be tasked with managing a comprehensive database for the state’s 200-plus fishing hubs, ensuring effective administration and safeguard of marine health at large.

To bolster the sector, the Political Scientist proposed a Blue Economy Summit designed to bring together key industry stakeholders, while urging the state to expand empowerment fishermen with boats and aids, and remodel markets into high productivity tourist hubs.

Crucial to these efforts, Dr. Asua maintained that reclaiming control of the state’s fishing grounds is a necessary prerequisite for success.

This shift, he explained, would ensure that Akwa Ibom remains the primary beneficiary of its maritime resources.

The academic also highlighted marine biotechnology and renewable wave energy in Ibeno and Eastern Obolo as untapped economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom State, emphasizing the need for mangrove protection.

He urged a shift toward modernized, sustainable maritime practices to leverage these resources, stating, "We are focusing on traditional ocean activities, but in emerging sectors like marine biotechnology and renewable energy, Akwa Ibom State holds immense potential." Asua suggested.

Ultimately, the Dr. Asua framed the blue economy as a cornerstone for future growth, emphasizing it as a major revenue-generating opportunity that, if prioritized, could significantly propel the state's economic trajectory.
