Gov Diri Resigns From PDP with Assembly Members

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Announcing his decision on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Yenagoa, Governor Diri did not disclose his next political affiliation but filers have it that he will soon empty his structure into the All Progressive Congress.

The move was endorsed by 19 PDP and 4 APC members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Abraham Ingobere , signaling a significant shift in the state's political alignment.

Governor Diri’s resignation follows closely on the heels of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress, marking a notable trend in recent political developments.

REASONS THESE FOUR COUNTRIES WILL PLAY IN 2026 FIFAWC QUALIFIERS PLAYOFF

The four African teams going in for the World Cup playoffs are Cameroon, Nigeria, DR Congo and Gabon!

According to CAF, FIFA rankings shall determine who faces who. CAF says the latest FIFA rankings set to be released on October 23rd will determine the pairings, with the best ranked facing the least ranked , while the middle two face each other.

At the moment, as pair current FIFA rankings, Nigeria (45th) shall face Gabon (79th), while Cameroon (52nd) faces DR Congo (60th). A change in the order is not expected.

Note that the play-offs will take place on neutral ground in Morocco in November and they shall be single ties. The two winners from both games shall face off in a final and the winner of the final shall then go and compete with teams from other confederations for a World Cup ticket.

FIFA U20 WC: Why Nigeria Advance to Round of 16

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have progressed to the Round of 16 at the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile after holding Colombia to a 1–1 draw in their final Group D match early this Monday morning.

The result means Nigeria advance as one of the best four third-place teams, setting up a Round of 16 clash with Argentina at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago on Wednesday.

The seven-time African champions delivered a spirited performance against Colombia in Talca, showing determination and creativity throughout the encounter. Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt produced key saves in the 23rd and 26th minutes to keep the game goalless, while forwards Tahir Maigana, Kparobo Arierhi, and Suleman Sani created several chances, hitting the woodwork on multiple occasions.

Colombia took the lead in the 51st minute through Kener Gonzalez, who converted from Neyser Villareal’s assist. Undeterred, the Flying Eagles pressed for an equaliser, with Odinaka Okoro going close in the 76th minute as his header was stopped by the Colombian goalkeeper.

Nigeria’s persistence paid off late in the game when captain Daniel Bameyi calmly scored from the penalty spot in the 86th minute after a handball inside the box from a Tahir Maigana shot.

The Flying Eagles nearly stole victory in the final minute, but Arierhi’s shot was blocked inside the area, leaving both teams to share the points.

With the draw, Nigeria secured enough points to qualify for the knockout stage as one of the best third-place finishers. The fixture against Argentina will be a repeat of the quarter-final meeting at the last edition, which Nigeria famously won 2–0 in San Juan.

Elsewhere, Colombia will face South Africa, while Norway is set to meet Paraguay in other Round of 16 fixtures.

“I WILL LEAD A DELEGATION OF AFRICAN LEADERS TO PULL OUT OF UNITED NATIONS IF AFRICA IS NOT GIVEN A PERMANENT SEAT… ENOUGH OF THE DISRESPECT!”

-Kenya Point One and Presido William Ruto threatens to pull out from United Nations.

In his words:

"You cannot claim to be the United Nations while disregarding the voices of fifty-four nations, it is impossible. Africa will no longer remain on the margins of global governance while decisions on peace, security, and development are made without our perspectives and our voice.
Excluding Africa is not only unacceptable, unfair, and grossly unjust, it undermines the very credibility of this organization. Africa dominates much of the Security Council’s agenda, provides some of the largest contingents of UN peacekeepers, and bears the heaviest costs of instability. Yet, we remain the only continent without a permanent seat."

Cross River State Bans School Lessons After 2:00 PM
.. Defaulting Schools Risk Revocation of Approval To operate

The Cross River State Government has unveiled a comprehensive package of education policy reforms designed to standardize practices in public and private schools, safeguard pupils’ welfare, and improve data management across the state.

The reforms, approved by His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, were announced earlier today by the Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, during a press briefing in Calabar. The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Governor for endorsing the reforms, describing them as “a significant step toward achieving holistic, quality education for all Cross River children.”

Key Highlights of the Reforms:

1. Uniform Academic Calendar
All public and private schools must now follow a single approved calendar for opening and closing. Schools that fail to comply risk sanctions, including derecognition and withholding of approval-to-operate (ATO).

2. Graduation Ceremonies
Graduation events are now reserved strictly for certificate classes—Primary 6, JSS3, and SS3. Ceremonies for kindergarten, nursery, and non-exit classes have been abolished to reduce unnecessary costs for parents.

3. Use of Approved Textbooks
Only Ministry-approved textbooks will be permitted in schools. Publishers are prohibited from embedding workbooks that make textbooks non-transferable, ensuring uniformity, cost savings, and reuse among pupils.

4. School Lessons After 2:00 PM Prohibited
Schools are directed to end classes at 1:00 pm for primary and 2:00 pm for secondary levels. Compulsory after-school lessons are banned to prevent mental fatigue, physical stress, and additional financial burdens on parents. Extra lessons may only occur with parental consent, and the Ministry will not be responsible for any issues arising outside the approved schedule.

5. Establishment of Anti-Drug Clubs
To combat rising drug use among students, every public and private school must establish anti-drug clubs. These clubs will monitor and report incidents, raise awareness, and work with authorities to enforce discipline.

6. Bullying Prevention Measures
Anti-Bullying Committees are now mandatory in all schools. Any student caught bullying will face instant expulsion to deter misconduct. The initiative aims to create a safer and more respectful learning environment.

7. Pupils/Students Index Number System
Beginning with the 2025/2026 academic session, all pupils—from Kindergarten to SS3—will be assigned a unique index number. The new system will improve data accuracy, prevent fraudulent transfers, and streamline admissions. Distribution of index numbers will begin in early 2026 once admission documentation is complete.

Implementation and Compliance:
The Commissioner emphasized that implementation takes effect immediately.
• School managers and proprietors must comply without delay.
• Strict adherence is expected, and violators will face sanctions.
• Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor these reforms and provide feedback to ensure the policies achieve their intended goals.

Commissioner Odey concluded, “These reforms are about safeguarding our children’s future, improving standards, and making Cross River State’s education system a model for others to follow. With the Governor’s support and the cooperation of all stakeholders, we are confident of achieving lasting change.”
