The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State Hon. Uwemedimo E. Udo PhD has commended the Executive Chairman of ONNA Local government area for demonstrating visionary leadership through initiatives that will bring lasting economic development to the area.

Hon. Udoh made the commendations at the inauguration of Zenith Bank Agency Office and the launch of a Subsidized Transport Scheme by the Chairman to mark his one year in office.

The landmark ceremony, held on Monday in Abat, brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders in a celebration of progress and grassroots empowerment.

Udoh who was visibly elated said, "I have seen your work, from healthcare to education and economic empowerment, you've shown true leadership. And as your Leader in ALGON, I am very happy for what you have put on ground for your people, this is what grassroot administration should be, he said.

He noted that the projects reflect the ideals of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which promotes sustainable rural development, and urged residents to protect and make optimal use of the new banking facility.

The ALGON Chairman also encouraged beneficiaries of the new mini-bus transport scheme to utilize the vehicles responsibly to stimulate local commerce and create jobs.

Earlier in his welcome address, Hon. Kufre Umoren described the dual event as a celebration of “service, partnership, and progress”, reflecting on a year of steady transformation anchored on unity and purpose.

"Today, we stand as witnesses to what unity, vision, and collective commitment can achieve within just one year,” he said. “This banking agency will change how our people access financial services—bringing banking closer to our rural communities and promoting inclusion."

Hon. Umoren expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Hon. (Elder) IniAbasi Ekanem, for initiating the bank agency project, stressing that leadership continuity is essential for lasting progress.

"True leadership is not about starting everything afresh but about completing what others began for the common good," he added.

The ONNA Chairman further thanked Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for strengthening local government autonomy and ensuring timely disbursement of council funds, which he said has empowered chairmen to deliver “visible, people-centered governance.”

Dignitaries who attended the event included a representative of Zenith Bank, Mr. Nduke Usoro; former ONNA Chairman, Hon. Iniabasi Ekanem; Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Johnny; PDP Chairman, Kingsley Johnny; APC stalwart, Hon. Emmanuel Ekpeyo, who represented the Chapter Chairman of APC; and the Paramount Ruler of ONNA, Edidem Raymond Inyang.

The newly inaugurated Zenith Bank Agency is expected to serve as a vital financial hub for ONNA and neighboring communities, enabling residents to open accounts, deposit and withdraw funds, and access other essential banking services without traveling long distances.

Royal Felicitations to Hon. Kufre Umoren, Executive Chairman of Onna

The Asuna Nung Oku Clan Council extends heartfelt felicitations to Hon. Kufre Umoren, Executive Chairman of Onna Local Government Area, on his first anniversary in office. We commend his dedication to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Onna, as outlined in his "Great Grace" blueprint.

The Executive Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, has expressed profound gratitude to the youths of the area for their support, describing them as the "backbone" of his administration.

Hon. Umoren made the remarks on Saturday, October 11, 2025, while hosting all Village Youth Presidents of ONNA at his family residence in Ikot Ese Ishiet, as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office.

In his address, the Chairman commended the youths for embracing peaceful dialogue rather than violence in addressing community issues and assured them that his administration remains committed to promoting youth empowerment and inclusive development.

"I wouldn’t be standing here as Executive Chairman if you had not spoken with one voice in support of me," he said. "Your unity made it possible for the elders to adopt me as the youth slot. And that is why I have come to say thank you. This David you chose to make king in the house of Jesse will not disappoint you."

Hon. Umoren also extended appreciation to Governor Umo Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for listening to the voice of the youths during the 2024 election, which, he said, paved the way for his emergence as Chairman.

He noted that despite being "the only PDP Chairman standing," Governor Eno continues to treat him as a son, adding that ONNA youths will remain steadfast in their support for the Governor for eight years.

"As the captain of ONNA youths, I can assure you that ONNA will queue behind His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, for eight years," Hon. Umoren declared.

In their goodwill messages, the Leader of ONNA's Legislature, Hon Samuel Felix, Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Comrade Ubong Essien; the Acting ONNA Youth Council Chairman, Mr. Tony Ekpo; and Comrade Akpan Ubak, popularly known as King of the Boys, lauded the Chairman for his sustained support and initiatives aimed at youth empowerment.

They pledged their continued loyalty to the Chairman and reaffirmed their support for the administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D.

In fulfillment of his campaign promise, the Executive Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, has commenced the 2025 bursary payment to ONNA students studying in tertiary institutions across the country.

The payment exercise officially began on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the ONNA Local Government Council Secretariat, Abat.

Addressing members of the Federated Association of ONNA Students (FOSON), Hon. Umoren reiterated his commitment to supporting students' educational pursuits.

"This bursary payment is a fulfillment of my campaign promise to our students," he stated.

"During my school days, I never enjoyed this kind of support. Many of you here are more better than I was, yet diligence, humility and dedication to service brought me this far. If you remain sincere in whatever you do, you will go far in life," he added.

In his response, the President of FOSON Worldwide, Comrade Prince Roland, expressed appreciation to the Chairman for his consistent support to the student community.

Let me thank the Chairman for this show of love to students. This initiative is indeed the boost we need in our academic pursuits," he said.

He further assured that all verified ONNA students across various chapters would begin receiving their bursary payments immediately.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Leader of ONNA Legislature, Hon. Samuel Felix, Apostle Elijah Jack, a PDP stalwart in the area, Barr. Ubong Adiakpan, Hon. Godwin Ben, and a student stakeholder, Comrade Iniubong Ntiaba. They all commended Hon. Umoren for his continued dedication to youth development and his efforts to make ONNA better than he met it.

The 5th International Conference of ASUP AkwaPoly Chapter, themed "Rethinking Sustainable Development: Addressing Global Realities," provided a platform for thought-provoking discussions.

During the technical session, I presented a paper " assessment of the distribution of primary healthcare facilities in Onna Local Government".

The presentation highlighted key recommendations, including the development of a regional healthcare master plan that incorporates Onna as a subset. This approach aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and improved livability outcomes in the region.

Kudos to ESV Nyeneime Raphael, Chairman of ASUP AkwaPoly Chapter, for orchestrating an excellent event that fostered knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The Executive Chairman of ONNA LGA, Hon. Kufre Umoren, on Tuesday evening joined other council leaders and dignitaries at an exclusive gala dinner organized by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, to commemorate one year of council chairmen in office.

Hon. Umoren, who is set to mark a milestone in ONNA with the inauguration of the Zenith Bank Agency, commended his colleagues for their steadfast service and dedication to the people who entrusted them with leadership. He lauded the collective efforts of local government chairmen across the state for maintaining the confidence of their constituents through impactful governance.

The ONNA Council Boss also expressed deep appreciation to HE Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for his support to local government administrations across the state. He noted that the governor’s people-oriented policies and consistent encouragement have greatly enhanced the capacity of council chairmen to deliver effective grassroots governance and meaningful development.

The event attracted top government officials and policymakers, with the Commissioner for Power, Rt. Hon. Iniobong Robson, a former council chairman, serving as Chairman of the Occasion.

Also in attendance were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong; the Member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Paul Ekpo; Vice Chairmen and Secretaries of Councils, among other dignitaries.

The gala provided a platform for ALGON members to celebrate a year of remarkable achievements while reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and promoting sustainable development across Akwa Ibom State.
