Familiarity Visit to the HOD, Agricultural & Food Engineering, UNIUYO – A Step Towards Collaboration and Growth

Today, on the mandate of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE) – Graduates and Students Forum, Akwaibom State Chapter, we paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Department, Agricultural and Food Engineering, University of Uyo.

It was an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement as the HOD graciously welcomed us. I had the honour of introducing my team members, and she gladly received us all.

The purpose of our visit was to familiarize, share the vision of the Graduates and Students Forum, and seek her advice, cooperation, and support as we work together to strengthen the future of Agricultural Engineering in our region and beyond.

In her response, she shared valuable insights and guidance. Some key highlights include:

🔹 She charged us to be good ambassadors of the NIAE and set the pace as role models for other students and young graduates.

🔹She encouraged us to feature successful professionals during our bi-monthly webinars to speak on career development and industry trends. She also pledged her support in this regard.

🔹 She outlined some of the challenges facing Agricultural Engineering students and advised us on practical ways to engage the right authorities to address them.

🔹 We were excited to learn that Dr. Mfrekemfon is an accredited member of the Engineering Educators Network in Africa (EENA) – a prestigious body committed to the advancement of engineering education across the continent.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening our partnership with academic leadership and building a thriving community of young, visionary Agricultural Engineers.

Together, we are building a better future for Agricultural Engineering in Nigeria.

The NIAE Fellowship Induction and Public Lecture held on May 16, 2025, was a resounding success. The event featured a compelling lecture on "Innovative Agricultural Mechanization: Proven Technologies for Enhancing Food Security," delivered by His Excellency, Engr. Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, FNSE, FNIAE, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, who was well represented. Attendees included industry leaders, professionals, and stakeholders committed to advancing agricultural engineering in Nigeria. The induction ceremony honored distinguished fellows for their exceptional contributions. We appreciate all who participated and supported this impactful event focused on promoting innovation and sustainable solutions in agriculture.

Some students from the Department of Agricultural Engineering Akwaibom State University, who participated in the maiden Poster Competition, organized by Engr. Kingsley Umani, were awarded with the certificate of Student membership of the NIAE.

This was made possible by Engr. Kinsley Umani and presented by the Head of department and the Examination officer of the department.

Uyo, Akwa Ibom – The Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, successfully hosted its May 2025 Meeting and Technical Paper Presentation on *"The Impact of AI on Modern Agriculture: A Critical Analysis."* The event, held today being *May 10th, 2025*, at the *NSE Secretariat**, brought together industry experts, academics, and professionals passionate about the future of AI-driven farming

The keynote speaker, *Engr. Prof. Aniekan Offiong*, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) at the *University of Uyo*, delivered a compelling analysis of the transformative role artificial intelligence plays in modern agriculture. His insights highlighted how AI enhances efficiency, promotes sustainable farming practices, and drives innovation in the sector.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to agricultural engineering and his invaluable research on AI applications in farming, **Prof. Offiong was presented with a prestigious award** by the NIAE, Akwa Ibom State Chapter.
