I finally squeezed time out of my very busy schedule yesterday to watch Behind the Scenes, and it was quite a good watch. It even had me tearing up at some point.
First of all, it’s a well-thought-out story. Can something like that happen in reality? I doubt it very much. But then again, movies are partly fiction, aren’t they? As long as it entertains, I’m fine with it, and I was definitely entertained.
One thing I liked was the twins as Funke Akindele’s children in the movie. Twins already have a way of causing confusion when you can’t really tell who is who, and they brought that energy perfectly. It made some scenes even more chaotic in a good way.
Aderonke’s children were also really impressive. Very natural performances. Honestly, excellent actors.
And I have to say, Tobi Bakre keeps improving. I didn’t always think he was this good, but after seeing him in The Brotherhood and now this, I can confidently say he’s a strong actor. You can clearly see the growth in his performance here.
One thing I didn’t really understand though was the killing of the lawyer. It felt unnecessary to me. I don’t know why it was included, but it didn’t add much for me.
Also, I didn’t expect Tobi’s character to turn out to be the “nice one,” especially after everything that happened. But the way he stepped up for the children after his sister’s death was actually really touching. That part melted my heart a bit.
The friend’s betrayal, however, was very easy to see coming. It wasn’t even a shocking reveal. From early on, it already felt obvious. I wish that twist had been handled in a more hidden way so it would hit harder.
And then there’s Aderonke (I don’t know her actual name), I think her selflessness was a bit too exaggerated at times. There’s a thin line between being selfless and being taken for granted, and at some point, I felt she crossed that line more than once.
Overall, it was a good watch. Emotional, engaging, and definitely entertaining.
Can someone please tell me Aderonke’s actual name?
