Day 1 of taking my life back.

I’ve been procrastinating on starting my weight loss journey because I kept telling myself I didn’t have the time. But today, I decided to start small. If I keep waiting for the “perfect” time, the only thing that will happen is that I’ll keep gaining weight.

When I checked my weight on Saturday, I was a whopping 106.4 kg, and I realized there isn’t a better time to start than now.

I’m keeping it simple, so for today I only did

* 20 minutes of stair climbing
* 15 minutes of lower-body strength training

I’ll check my weight again next week because I don’t want to rely too much on the scale. Instead, I want to focus on how I feel, how my body responds, and on building consistency

This is always my favorite season of the year.

Two of my favorite things are available at the same time: roasted corn and shelled groundnuts. 🌽🥜

I make sure to have them almost every day, especially corn, because the speed at which it disappears in my state is unbelievable. At least groundnuts stick around for a while.

Very soon, my third favorite will join the party towards the end of the year — sugar cane. 😊

There’s just something about this period that makes me happy.

What’s your favorite thing to eat during this season?

I finally squeezed time out of my very busy schedule yesterday to watch Behind the Scenes, and it was quite a good watch. It even had me tearing up at some point.

First of all, it’s a well-thought-out story. Can something like that happen in reality? I doubt it very much. But then again, movies are partly fiction, aren’t they? As long as it entertains, I’m fine with it, and I was definitely entertained.

One thing I liked was the twins as Funke Akindele’s children in the movie. Twins already have a way of causing confusion when you can’t really tell who is who, and they brought that energy perfectly. It made some scenes even more chaotic in a good way.

Aderonke’s children were also really impressive. Very natural performances. Honestly, excellent actors.

And I have to say, Tobi Bakre keeps improving. I didn’t always think he was this good, but after seeing him in The Brotherhood and now this, I can confidently say he’s a strong actor. You can clearly see the growth in his performance here.

One thing I didn’t really understand though was the killing of the lawyer. It felt unnecessary to me. I don’t know why it was included, but it didn’t add much for me.

Also, I didn’t expect Tobi’s character to turn out to be the “nice one,” especially after everything that happened. But the way he stepped up for the children after his sister’s death was actually really touching. That part melted my heart a bit.

The friend’s betrayal, however, was very easy to see coming. It wasn’t even a shocking reveal. From early on, it already felt obvious. I wish that twist had been handled in a more hidden way so it would hit harder.

And then there’s Aderonke (I don’t know her actual name), I think her selflessness was a bit too exaggerated at times. There’s a thin line between being selfless and being taken for granted, and at some point, I felt she crossed that line more than once.

Overall, it was a good watch. Emotional, engaging, and definitely entertaining.

Can someone please tell me Aderonke’s actual name?

I’ve never been one to speak carelessly about myself. I’ve always been intentional about speaking positively over my life and my destiny, and it’s a habit I’ve kept for a long time. Sometimes I honestly think it’s one of the reasons many things work out in my favour.

I hear people all the time, after a small mistake or a rough moment, say things like “I’m so stupid” or “I’m so bad at this.” Mistakes are normal, but that has never been how I talk to myself.

When something isn’t working, I keep going. And when I start to get it right, I say it out loud. I’ll tell myself, “Daria, you’re so smart,” or “Why are you so good at this?” I’ve done it for so long that it feels natural to me.

One day, while I was at a salon and learning a new task for a new job, I was struggling at first. When I finally got the hang of it, I started praising myself the way I usually do. The hairstylist laughed and said she had never heard anyone praise themselves as much as I did.

What she didn’t know was that it was my first time in that role. I was just starting that job, and it mattered deeply to me to do well. I needed to encourage myself in that moment, and that was how I did it.

It made me realise how normal this is for me, and how uncommon it actually is for a lot of people. People are quick to speak badly about themselves, almost without thinking. That has never been me.

So this is just a reminder. Speak well over yourself, no matter the circumstances. Even in moments when you feel like you are not doing well enough, keep telling yourself that you are capable and that you are good at what you do.

I just finished my steps and decided to pick up some weights and get in some squats after a million years, and I couldn’t even go down without screaming out loud. In my mind, it was going to be business as usual because after all, I used to squat 100kg, so what then is 10kg? Man, was I disappointed. I jejely dropped the weight and did some stretches. Hopefully, by next week, I’ll be back to lifting weights again.

I’m tired of being fat!

This is Day 1 of Turning My Life Around.

Last night, I woke up and I had never felt more uncomfortable in my skin. I could not for the life of me understand why I’d chosen food over looking great and feeling great too. Before I slept, I took a resolve to make better decisions. I started my day with 12,000 steps. The next thing on my mind is to fix my meals. I know that I will achieve my goals this time!
