Electricity consumers may soon be plunged into darkness as the Federal Government plans to deal with debtor Discos.

The disconnection of the debtor Discos will consequently throw millions of Nigerian homes and communities into darkness.

Confirming the development, Eddy Eje, the Executive Director, of Market Operator has advised the erring Discos to make necessary payments within the 60 days extension of their grace period.

According to ThePunch, the Discos and Gencos listed among the defaulters by the market operator include, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric, Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Kaduna Electric, Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, APL Electric Company Aba, Ajaokuta Steel Company- a special electricity customer. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has introduced its service charter, aimed at enhancing efficient service delivery across the country. This charter establishes service standards that will guide the Commission in discharging its duties to both internal and external stakeholders. NERC's chairman, Sanusi Garba, explained that the service charter summarizes the mutual expectations of the Commission and stakeholders by detailing service levels, rights, obligations, and redress mechanisms. The Commission is committed to ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to its clients and stakeholders. The charter also reaffirms NERC's commitment to effective service delivery and ensures that stakeholders have access to its service standards and expectations. By launching the charter, the Commission commits to ensuring the safety, security, reliability, and quality of service in the production and delivery of electricity to consumers. Effective implementation of the charter will improve service delivery and result in better performance by the Commission. The national coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, commended NERC's efforts and emphasized that the charter would improve service delivery in the power sector.

The cost of replacing a frayed cord is less than the cost of treating electrocution (if survived).

According to a study from the Chartered Trading Standards Institute in the UK, 98 percent of all fake Apple chargers failed basic safety tests. After several tests, only 3 of the 400 devices tested had enough isolation to prevent an electric shock.

These are scary statistics by any measure, hence make your safety a priority.

The residents of Magboro, Makogi, Oke-Afa, Ibafo and Orimerimun, who experienced a week of blackout in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, now have a reason to smile after the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company restored power to the communities.

According to PUNCH Metro, some Magboro residents challenged IBEDC over the epileptic power supply in their area.

Some unknown persons in the community later chained the isolator switch and placed a sacrifice and some charms around the electrical gadget to scare away officials of the distribution company and stop them from switching off their power.

However, IBEDC disconnected power to the area from their office at Oke Aro.

Eventually, the sacrifice and charms were removed on Friday by some herbalists contracted by residents.

The President of the Magboro Movement on IBEDC, Moses Omoniyi, said, “The sacrifice has been removed. The IBEDC and the CDC of Magboro had a meeting and got some herbalists that helped in removing it (sacrifice) on Friday. The communities were powered yesterday (Saturday), but Magboro had power this evening (Sunday). The distribution company has not spoken on improving power supply; it’s still the same.”
