A Little Reality I’ve Learned in Medical School
When I first started med school, I thought I knew what to expect. I was confident, even a bit eager like many before me, fueled by that adrenaline rush of new beginnings and high performance. Some of my seniors warned me about the challenges, but the reality only truly unfolded once I was inside the system.
At first, it didn’t seem so hard. I asked myself, “What’s the big deal?” But soon, the bulkiness hit endless lectures, thick theses, no space to even catch up or revise properly. One year leads straight to the next exam, and just when you think you’re done with one challenge, another takes its place.
Sometimes, I’d sit with friends, feeling lost, wondering “How do I keep up?” But med school isn’t just about intelligence it’s a test of endurance, mental strength, and emotional resilience. It even challenges your faith, forcing you to grow not just as a student, but as a person.
There were moments I doubted, moments I felt hopeless like during long lectures when information felt overwhelming, or days when just showing up seemed impossible. I even heard some seniors say they regretted choosing this path at times. But in the end, we keep moving forward. We fail, we learn, and most importantly, we carry each other along.
Medical school shapes you into someone stronger not just in knowledge, but in heart and spirit. And God willing, with this strength, every one of us will become the doctor we dreamed of.
So to anyone starting this journey it’s tough, yes, but it’s worth it. You’re not alone. And every step teaches you more than just medicine.
What has medical school taught you so far? I’d love to hear your story.
