🧼 Foaming Candy Cane Scrub (Reduced Oil, Increased Soap)
This recipe results in a scrub that lathers up slightly and washes away cleaner.
Revised Ingredients
2 cups Granulated White Sugar (the exfoliant)
1/4 cup Carrier Oil (e.g., Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil)
(This is a significant reduction from the original 1/2–1 cup)
1/4 cup Liquid Castile Soap (unscented)
(This is an increase from the optional 2-3 tablespoons)
15-20 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
A few drops Red Food Coloring or natural colorant
Revised Instructions
Combine Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the 1/4 cup Carrier Oil, the 1/4 cup Liquid Castile Soap, and the 15-20 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil until fully combined.
Add Sugar: Gradually pour the liquid mixture over the 2 cups of Sugar in a large bowl. Stir until the sugar is uniformly moistened. It should be a damp, scoopable mixture.
Split the Scrub: Divide the mixture evenly into two separate bowls.
Color the Scrub:
Leave the mixture in the first bowl as the white layer.
Add a few drops of red food coloring to the mixture in the second bowl and mix until you reach your desired red shade.
Layer the Scrub: Take a clean, airtight jar. Carefully layer the red scrub and the white scrub alternately into the jar to create the candy cane stripe effect.
Seal and Store: Seal the jar tightly and store in a cool, dry place.
💡 Note on Foaming/Consistency
The Castile soap provides the foaming and cleansing action, but the overall texture will be thinner and less dense than a pure oil-based scrub.
The high ratio of sugar helps absorb the liquid ingredients, but since this mixture has a high water content (from the Castile soap), it's crucial to use it quickly and keep water out of the container to prevent bacterial growth.
