WARRI SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
CONTEMPORARY REALITIES AND FUNCTIONAL OWNERSHIP

‎Today, Ogbe-Ijoh’s continued ownership and authority in Warri South are undeniable:

‎1. NPA Representation: Employment and contracts are equitably shared between Ogbe-Ijoh and Itsekiri.

‎2. Royalty Payments: NPA and all companies inside the port pays royalties equally to the Pere Ama-Okosu of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom and the Olu of Itsekiri.

‎3. Territorial Control: Ogbe-Ijoh Market, NPA, Alders Town, and surrounding areas remain under Ogbe-Ijoh control and influence.

‎4. Revenue Rights: Companies and businesses operating in these Ogbe-Ijoh areas pay royalties to the Pere Ama-Okosu of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom and to the Ogbe-Ijoh leadership.

‎5. ‎Civic & Religious Evidence: Leases for the Catholic Church and Warri Central Mosque are issued under Ogbe-Ijoh authority.

6.‎ Colonial Testimony: In a 1923 letter, Chief Dore Numa wrote to the Warri Province Resident:

‎ “The Ogbe-Ijoh natives are the rightful owners of New Warri or Ogbe-Ijoh and Alders Town lands. These areas do not belong to the Jekris or the Sobos.”
‎ He acknowledged that his landholdings were due to government allocation, not native ownership.

‎7. INEC Recognition: During the Supreme Court mandated delineation exercise, INEC officials met Ogbe-Ijoh people on ground and documented Ogbe-Ijoh territories without any resistance from the Itsekiri.

POLICE CONNIVING WITH ITSEKIRI TO THREATEN PEACE IN WARRI - IYC

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has raised an alarm of the Warri Area Command allegedly conniving with the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to oppress Ijaws in the city.

The alarm is sequel to the removal of banners bearing the image of HRM King Couple Oromoni, the Pere of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, by Itsekiri youths, in company of police officers from the command.

The development sparked protests by Ijaw youths, who marched to the Area Command demanding the retrieval of the banners and their immediate replacement.

Reacting to the incident, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone, in a statement signed by the trio of Nicholas Tamaradenyefa Igarama - Chairman, Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo - Secretary, and Tare Magbei - Information Officer, accused the police of abetting to falsehood and threat to peace in Warri.

The Council fingered the Olu of Itsekiri - Ogiame Atuwatse III and the Warri South Council Chairman- Agbateyiniro Isaac Weyinmi, as masterminds of the condemnable act it described as a decoy to cause war.

"The attention of the Ijaw Youth Council has been drawn to an incident of police officers attached to the Warri Area Command conniving with the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to remove banners bearing the image of HRM Couple Oromoni, the revered king of Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom.

"This condemnable act is masterminded by one Wayemi Agas, the Warri South Council Chairman, who perpetrated the act on the others of the Itsekiri hierarchy.

"As peace-loving and law-abiding citizens, we view this action as a direct provocation and a calculated attempt to ignite ethnic tension in Warri. The removal of our king’s image is not only an insult to the Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom but also a violation of the fragile peace that stakeholders have struggled to sustain in the area.

"We call on the Delta State Government, security agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Warri South Council Chairman and the Itsekiri leadership to desist from further acts capable of undermining peace.

"The Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom has consistently maintained peaceful relations with its neighbors, despite repeated provocations. We will not be forced into conflict, but no one should mistake our commitment to peace as weakness. Any further attempt to desecrate the image or authority of our traditional ruler will be met with stiff resistance.

"We demand a public apology from those responsible and clear assurance from the Warri Area Command that such partiality and connivance will not be repeated."

Signed

Comrade Nicholas Igarama - Chairman

Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo, Esq. - Secretary

Comrade Tare Magbei
Information Officer

Ijaw, Urhobo Groups Boycott CVR, Demand Implementation of Supreme Court Judgment on Warri Constituency Delineation

The Ijaw and Urhobo ethnic groups of Warri Federal Constituency have declared their boycott of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must first implement the final report of the Supreme Court-ordered fresh delineation of electoral wards and units in the constituency.

The protesters who stormed the INEC headquarters in large numbers came from Warri North, Warri South and Warri South West Local Government Areas making up the Federal constituency.

The groups made their position known on Tuesday during a peaceful protest to the INEC headquarters in Abuja where they expressed deep worry over the INEC’s CVR in the area.

They Carried placards with inscriptions such as “Warri Federal Constituency: No Ward, No Units for CVR”, “CVR Today is Political Fraud in Warri Federal Constituency” and “INEC, Give Us the Final Report.”

Spokesman of the groups, Chief David Reje from the Egbema Clan of Warri North Local Government Areas accused INEC of undermining the constitutional rights of the people by conducting the CVR with the “defunct arrangement” that the Supreme Court had earlier nullified.

Chief Reje, expressed their displeasure noting that despite INEC’s field exercise and stakeholder engagements, which produced a new delineation report in compliance with the apex court judgment, the commission has failed to release and implement the final report.

“Our patience and cooperation are being taken for granted as machinery has been set in place to disenfranchise us from participating in future elections.

“We can no longer wait while our democratic rights guaranteed by the Constitution and reaffirmed by the Supreme Court judgment are being eroded" Chief Reje warned.

The groups said they had travelled from Warri to Abuja to draw INEC’s attention to their plight, warning that they might be compelled to occupy the commission’s premises until their demands were met.

“They described the move as the second phase of their “non-violent struggle to restore political dignity.”

They further noted that they had come under “consistent pressure” from their people and could not guarantee that the agitation would remain contained if INEC continued to ignore the court order.

They demanded that ; INEC must immediately release and implement the delineation report and the CVR should only proceed on the basis of the newly approved electoral arrangements.

“We shall not stand idly by and watch our democratic rights and franchise frittered away. A stitch in time saves nine.” he maintained.

INEC National Commissioner, Abdullahi Abdulzuru, in his response assured the Ijaw and Urhobo groups of Warri Federal Constituency that their concerns over the implementation of the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of electoral wards and units will be addressed.

He commended the groups for adopting a peaceful approach in presenting their grievances and acknowledged receipt of their formal petition.

“I have listened carefully to your demands and read through your submission. I will tender the documents to the commission,” Abdulzuru said.

He further stressed that INEC is a law-abiding institution with no intention of disenfranchising any group of Nigerians.

“As a commission, we are committed to upholding the law. There is no intention, as far as INEC is concerned, to disenfranchise anybody from any exercise. We will get back to you be rest assured,” he added.

Prominent figures who signed the document tendered by the protesters include Dr Joel Bisina, Olorogun Victor Okumagba, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, Chief John Eramvor, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, Chief Sylvester Femi Okumagba, Chief Arthur Akpodubakaye, Chief Wilson Ogbodu, Chief Emmanuel Serondi and Chief Mrs Ann Gagiyovwi (JP)

Others are Rev. Samuel Ako, Amb.Jude Ebitimi Ukori (JP), Hon. Frank Pukon, Chief Mrs Vero Emmanuel Tangbewei and Comrade Mrs Margaret Ikinbor.

NNPC Floating Filling Station

They were established to enhance fuel accessibility in riverine communities, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

The floating station, like the land-based mega stations, has a capacity of 300,000 liters of petrol and diesel.

It features an office area designed in a containerized style, eight dispensers, two 44KVA generators, life-saving and fire-fighting equipment, a steel canopy, and other standard facilities.

Twelve floating filling stations were built; however, some have become non-operational.

For instance, stations in the Nembe and Oporoma waterways of Bayelsa State have ceased operations, and even the one in Buguma, Rivers State, also in Burutu, Delta State is not functioning.

Despite its lack of functionality in recent times, the NNPC floating filling station remains an innovative approach to addressing fuel scarcity in riverine areas.

Elder T.K Ogoriba joins race for INC President, consults monarchs

A foremost agitator of the Ijaw-Niger Delta struggle, Elder Timi Kaiser-Welhelm Ogoriba has thrown his hat in the race to be the next President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

This follows his expression of interest and consultation visits to the clans in Kolokuma/Opokuma, his home local government area, of Bayelsa State.

This is as the current leadership of the INC led by Professor Benjamin Okaba nears its tenure end, necessitating campaigns for a new leadership.

Elder Ogoriba, the acclaimed drafter of the famous Kaiama Declaration started off on Wednesday, leading a team of his supporters and committee of friends to the palaces of Ibenanaowei of Kolokuma Kingdom, HRM King Agara Onya Mozi II and his Opokuma counterpart HRM King Collins Aranka, where he received their royal blessings.

Speaking during the visits, a member of National Representative Council of the INC, Elder Marshall Kunoun, said Ogoriba was beckoned to join the race by his committee of friends who found him competent for the role and his ability to lead the congress.

Also speaking, an emeritus President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Chief Oyeinfie Jonjon, who also threw his weight in support of Ogoriba’s bid said the decision to support him was a no-brainer given his "proven track records in agitations of the Ijaw-Niger Delta struggle and as someone who understands clearly the Ijaw cause."

On his part, a member of the team, Hon. Deo Doupere Kalsuo, former chairman of INC Gbarain Clan, also pledged support for Ogoriba.

"As someone who is true to the Ijaw agitations and knows what to do when given the opportunity to lead, I will support him,” he said.

The national welfare secretary of INC, Mrs. Peremo Isenah, on her part, urged delegates to prioritize the Ijaw interest while casting their votes for their favourite candidates.
