ON THE MANDATE OF DELTA PDP, WE STAND

— Says Olorogun Amb. Frank Muwhen Magamu, Olorogun Amb. Matthew Uparan, Olorogun Destiny Apowan, Olorogun Bossman Omugele, Comr. William Sahiki, Olorogun Amb. Michael Edema, Comr. Austin Oruma, Comr. Amb. Akaba Clement, Olorogun Feko, Comr. Joseph Oro, Hon. Donald Vero David Erus, Olorogun Lawson Agberia Oghoifo and others.

Today, we rise as stewards of the People’s Democratic Party’s mandate—steadfast, unyielding, and resolute. We do not waver. We do not retreat. We are anchored in the will of the people, chosen by their voice, and driven by their vision.

This is more than a slogan—it is our declaration. A declaration of faith in democracy, trust in the people, and an unshakable commitment to the ideals of the PDP.

Our mandate is a mission—to rebuild our communities, to reform governance, and to restore dignity to public service. It is a pledge that good leadership is not an option, but a responsibility. It is a reminder that true power belongs to the people—and leadership must serve, not rule.

In times of uncertainty, history calls for unity. And for us, that time is now. Our message is loud, our purpose is clear: on the PDP mandate, we stand.

Let this echo across every ward, every street, every town, and every city in Delta State and across Nigeria—on the PDP mandate, we stand. Not for ourselves alone, but for every Nigerian who believes in justice, in progress, and in the enduring strength of our democracy.

The road ahead may be tough. But with the people’s mandate in our hands and their hopes in our hearts, we move forward—together, unshaken, and undivided.

On the PDP mandate, we stand—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

Oyibode is ready for EFCC Probe of his administration As Council chairman, Reaffirms Commitment To Transparency And accountability In the Development Of Udu Kingdom.

Calls His Predecessor Chief Jite Brown To Be Ready For A probe Of His Six years In office.

Udu, Delta State – In response to a series of misleading and propaganda-driven posts circulating on social media by some cronies of the Chief Jite Brown, the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA, has made a bold move by calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the financial dealings of the immediate past administration led by Olorogun Chief Jite Brown.

Olorogun Oyibode disclosed that he has formally informed his predecessor of his intention to invite the EFCC to scrutinize the six-year tenure of Chief Jite Brown, as well as his own few months in office, in the spirit of transparency and accountability.

He emphasized that his administration is founded on openness, integrity, and service to the good people of Udu. “I am holding this office in trust for the people of Udu, and that is why transparency remains my watchword. As a certified political scientist and administrator, I believe accountability is the bedrock of good governance,” Oyibode stated.

The Udu Council Chairman further clarified that he is not against criticism but maintained that such criticisms must be constructive and devoid of the "pull-him-down" syndrome or evil tendencies. According to him, “Criticism is vital in a democracy, but it must be honest and well-meaning. We must avoid malicious narratives that are meant to distract or derail progress.”

Highlighting his achievements in less than a year in office, Oyibode revealed that there are currently eight ongoing projects in the Council's Secretariat, all executed to modern and commendable standards. He also noted that his administration has successfully resolved several communal crises inherited from the previous leadership.

Sending a subtle message to detractors, Olorogun Oyibode said, “He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones. He who must come to equity must do so with clean hands.” He urged political actors and their supporters to desist from spreading falsehoods capable of misleading the public, asserting that his focus remains on delivering democratic dividends to the people of Udu.

With this move, Oyibode has reinforced his reputation as a leader committed to due process, good governance, and the sustainable development of the Udu Local Government Area.

URHOBO ARCHIVE

Name: Chief Edward Gbagbeke Sido

Regent and Otota of Udu Kingdom (1992-2006)

Chief Edward Sido is the Father of Cecilia IBRU former MD of defunct Oceanic Bank.

Born on November 8, 1914 at Ovwian in Udu Kingdom of Urhobo Division at that time, and now Udu Local Government Area. He was among those who were specially favoured from birth.

His grandmother, Mama Egba, was one of the greatest merchants of her time setting up buying stations for produce and retail and wholesale outlets for imported goods.

Chief E. G. Sido attended Warri Government School and graduated in 1934 with Standard Six Pass Certificate. He later proceeded to Prince Commercial Institute, Onitsha and graduated in 1940.

His leadership traits and the zeal to effectively educate the people of his environs made him to establish the first privately owned Secondary Institution in Warri- Sido Commercial Institute - in 1942, which was later integrated with the Kagho College of Commerce to form the United College of Commerce Warri ( College of Commerce in IGBUDU) which he was principal.

He also established the Sido Preparatory Day School (SPDS), which on three occasions won the trophy being competed for by all schools in Warri.

Chief Edward Sido taught in many Schools including New Zion School, Dore School, African Church School, Roman Catholic School all in Warri, and Native Authority School, Ughelli, among others.
In 1959, he enrolled in the Inns of Court Middle Temple, attended Holborn College of Law in London.

He graduated as a Barrister at Law on November 18, 1962 after passing the Council of Legal Education final examination in London. His logic was that Law is a useful discipline for the management of one's life and the general community. Soon after he was called to the bar in 1963.

He attended the Nigerian Law School in Lagos after his sojourn in England and graduated as a Nigerian Lawyer in April 1964. He started a flourishing legal practice and was, from the outset, community- conscious and also highly involved in progressive community matters.

He was employed by the then Bendel State Government of Nigeria as a Magistrate in 1976, nominated by the then Ethiope Local Government Council, Orerokpe to attend Nigeria Economic Welfare Services Summit in 1977 but later resigned as Magistrate in 1978 to return to his law practice.

Chief Edward Sido was chosen as the Regent and Otota of Udu Kingdom in February 1992 after the death of Chief F. V. Oputu in 1989.

His zeal and contributions to the development of his community made many refer to him as a social entrepreneur who was able to recognize the problems and needs of his community and proffer solutions.

The case of the establishment of the Udu Council of Chiefs, in which he played a prominent role in instituting the Udu throne, marks the highest point in his community relations activities.

Pa Sido was instrumental in the establishment of Udu Kingdom and the creation of the Udu Local Government Council. He promised the people of Udu when he was made the Otota, that during his tenure, he would see to it that the government of the day established the office of Ovie, and truly, an Ovie was installed, the first time in the history of the Udu kingdom.

He was also the Chairman of Udu Council of Chiefs which was responsible for the appointment of the Ovie of Udu, a member of the Udu traditional Council and also the Vice Chairman to the Ovie-in-Council as well. *

He also actively played local politics as a councilor in Warri Municipal council. During the first republic, Chief Sido was twice elected to serve in Warri Urban District Council, and was at the same time appointed a member of Income Tax Revenue Appeal Court in Lagos. He was also appointed a member of the Bendel Scholarship Board.

For six years between 198l and 1987, he was the President-General of Ovwian Community, the body which always played a vital part in the development of Ovwian. Chief Sido was instrumental to the establishment of the Delta Steel Company (D.S.C.) at Owvian-Aladja and also the Niger Benue Transport Company Limited at Owvian. These two companies have played vital roles in the economic life of the Udu people.

If entrepreneurial spirit is about spotting an opportunity and knowing how to make a difference, then Pa Sido could also be described as an entrepreneur par excellence. He was attached to the United Africa Company (U.A.C.) as a distributor of textile prints. He was also a timber contractor exporting timber to England. As a foundation Director of Oceanic Bank, he contributed immensely to the growth of the Bank.

A renowned and respected legal practitioner, he championed the cause of the less-privileged, especially in the Niger Delta Region. He was also a philanthropist.

A community leader par excellence who believed in rule of law and democratic institutions, twice he resigned his appointment when the Military took over the reins of government, for his belief that the art of governance should be left for those who know how best to impact effective leadership on the society.

Throughout his lifetime, Pa Sido lived a life worthy of emulation as he worked relentlessly to live by his ideals about leadership that: 'Good leaders are made, not born'. He also believed that Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the group in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent.

A very loving father who ensured that all his children were educated to University level and beyond, Pa Sido was a disciplinarian to the core. Among his children are Bankers, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Accountant, Teachers, Evangelists, and Administrators, among others.

Towards the end of his life, Pa Sido in April 2003 was baptized by Rev. Fr. Edwin Erhimeyoma. He made restitution and took his faith seriously, Until movement became difficult for him, he made it a duty to attend Mass regularly and was a committed communicant.

He died the death of Saints surrounded by his children and grandchildren on Thursday April 4, 2006. He was given a befitting burial in his hometown Ovwian where people from all works of life attended.

With his imprints and achievements all over, there is no doubt that his name will be etched in gold in the annals of his people, community and the nation at large.

Udu Traditional Council of Chiefs suspends Otota over alleged compromise

By Akpokona Omafuaire, UGHELLI

The Udu Kingdom Traditional Council of Chiefs has suspended the Otota, Sir Chief Sam Odibo, following a vote of no confidence passed against him over allegations of compromise and insubordination. The decision was reached during a council meeting held on Wednesday, and the announcement was contained in a statement signed by Triple Chief C.C.I. Whiliki, Chief Pleasure Ghavwan, Chief Otto Ogboriveta (Vice Chairman of the Traditional Council), and Chief Stanley Tesi on behalf of the Council of Chiefs.

High Chief Matthew Uparan (JP) has been appointed as the acting Otota, pending the selection of a permanent successor.

The council accused Chief Odibo of various acts of misconduct, including disobeying directives from the late Ovie, failing to call meetings of Udu Chiefs, and undermining the kingdom’s unity during a critical transitional period.

The statement detailed specific instances of insubordination, including Chief Odibo’s refusal to communicate Ovie’s directive for all Udu Chiefs to attend a state government town hall meeting held on August 14, 2024, at Otor-Udu. The council claimed that this led to a hijack of the process, marking a breach of traditional protocols.

The council also alleged that Otota, during the mourning period of the Ovie, collaborated with a factional Council of Chiefs that was not recognized by the traditional ruler, further deepening divisions within the kingdom. Odibo was also accused of unilaterally appointing a new Secretary for the Council of Chiefs, disregarding existing members who had served under the late Ovie.

Additionally, the council raised concerns over alleged financial misappropriations and misuse of the 5% Traditional Committee Funds, revealing that funds meant for traditional purposes were reportedly funneled directly into Chief Odibo’s personal account.

Citing health challenges and ethical breaches, the council declared him unfit to continue in his role. The statement read, “We, the members of Udu Council of Chiefs/Udu Chiefs Forum, the body of all Udu Chiefs, do hereby pass a vote of no confidence on Sir Chief Sam Odibo JP. He is, on this day, 14th May, 2025, removed and ceased forthwith to function in that capacity.”

Attempts to reach the suspended Otota for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered, and text messages were not returned.
